Grant's Tobacconist Macon Supreme

(3.75)
Mild Vanilla & Cherry Cavendish with a touch of perique. The recipe is one of superlative tobaccos, out of the ordinary in taste and appearance - a blend of rich taste, consistent smoothness and minimum of "bite". Grant's uses only the best-aged tobacco leaf. Care is taken in blending to achieve a proper balance of the various tobaccos blended. To achieve smoothness, we meld (or wed) each blend before packaging. All of Grant's blends are prepared in batches of less than 25 pounds - to assure the discriminating smoker that consistent quality is never compromised.

My twin brother bought me some of this blend from Grant's in San Francisco it is a very flavorful blend that is quite fruity and sweet. If you are going to smoke this make sure you have it in a cobb or a pipe dedicated to aeromatics. I am a fan of English blends but will try an aeromatic every now and then. The flavor of this blend is very strong of cherries and peaches to my palate but has a nice cavendish backbone with just a touch of perique that balances quite well. I will often times mix this with an even amount of latakia which makes this blend an amazing aeromatic English.

I highly reccomend this blend for experienced fans of aeromatics and even new smokers looking for something good. English fans; like me....may not like it too much, but if you mix it with an even amount of latakia, problem solved.

This is another blend that is in my rotation. I'm on a quest to find a cherry blend that is better than Macon Supreme and haven't found one yet. The cherry is not over the top and with the vanilla it's one superb tobacco. If your ever in the SF area you HAVE to stop by and check them out.

I have had little luck with so-called "cherry" blends before trying this one. Most of them fry your tongue and either do not taste like tobacco or do not taste like cherry. This blend is different.

Macon Supreme is exactly as it describes itself: vanilla and cherry. The perique is clearly there, but very much in the background. It burns pretty well for an aromatic of this type and does not have to be relit THAT often. Amazingly, it does not bite like so many cherry blends do and it's a very cool smoke. It will likely leave your pipe with its flavors though, so smoke this in a cob. It goes without saying that the room note is so pleasant that you could almost imagine that people will be begging you to blow this smoke in their face! My only complaint is that there could be a bit more perique, but I can (and likely will) remedy this at home by adding a little more.

Lastly, I want to second BEN's comment: I am really excited that Grant's Pipe Shop made it into this forum. Grant's is IMHO the best tobacconist in San Francisco hand-down. This shop is a throwback to another time and the staff is extremely knowledgeable. Their other aromatic blends are equally good too!

First, I want to thank the Moderators of this forum for adding this Store and Blend to their database! Now, San Francisco is my favorite town to visit for both Vacation and Business. Unfortunately, I had no idea this store even existed until finding it online one evening at home. They have been in business for well over a 100 years, and with that said, onto the review. I ordered this the next day, and to make a long story short, since then I have been hooked! I know the combination in this blend sounds a little strange, but let me assure you, it is wonderful! For those of you Aromatic smokers out there, who are looking but have not found a great tobacco that comes out of a jar in a Tobacco Shop, let me assure you, this will be the one! The description says it all. I do not know if the baccy's used are Lane, Altadis, or Consolidated, but they hand blend it there and in almost 20 years of Pipe Smoking, I have never enjoyed an Aromatic so thoroughly. I must also admit to being a BIG Va/Per fan, and I think the little Perique added really sweetens the deal for me. My Partner, who is my "Tobacco Aroma Critic", and who is kind enough to let me smoke in the house, says he can actually smell both the Cherry and Vanilla in this blend. And I can actually TASTE each consistently bowl after bowl. I encourage you to try this fine tobacco, BUT a WARNING!...Order this from them Online, if you call the Store they have to charge you the 47% California State Tobacco Tax (OUCH!)...Oh, and they ship FAST! I live in Cincinnati, Ohio and I always get my baccy in 2 days! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!!
