A nice combination of African Burley, Turkish and Virginia pipe tobaccos with a hint of Latakia added as to not overwhelm the blend. Our smoothest Latakia blend we offer. An Abenaki Classic!
This is the second of the Abenaki English style tobaccos that I've tried, the others being Turkish Balkan and Stonehenge English. I liked the former very much and the latter not very much. New Castle English falls somewhere in the middle.
This tobacco reminds me of the venerable Walnut from John Middleton, though it is better (it doesn't have as much of that Cavendish "drugstore" taste). It is a fairly mild English, though there is plenty of oriental tobacco taste and some Latakia. Abenaki's description of New Castle English mentions Virginias but I didn't see or taste much of these (this is not a particularly sweet smoke). I don't detect any topping. It lights easily and burns cleanly, but tends to bite if you puff too hard. Reasonably priced.
Glad I tried it but I'm not planning on buying it again, as I prefer a stronger tasting English with more Latakia.
I recieved this in a small 2 oz baggie along with some other samples. Moist, springy and well cut and blended.
A very soft english blend. Smoked in a lovely straight George Jensen Oliver I received for christmas. Very pleasing smoke, smooth mouthfeel, without tonguebite. Surprisingly, the wife actually didn't mind the aroma, even though it does posses the latakia and turkish which suggest a stronger room note. The sweetness of the VA balances the blend well with sweetness.
Burned cool and dry in the pipe I used, with only a couple of re-lights.
I have been quite pleased with this blend, and would re-order.
