Masterpiece Masterpiece Pipe Tobacco

(3.00)
Masterpiece is the ultimate expression of the tobacconist's art. It is a matchless selection of top-leaf Turkish, Latakia, Virginia, Burley and Perique, with the subtlest flavorings and aromatics from the far corners of the globe. Burns cool-leaves your pipe clean and dry.

I want to be honest: this is my first review, so please be careful evaluating it. I'm not a newcomer of pipe puffing, but please remember i'm new to this.

I got this Masterpiece on eBay, probably someone that had this tobacco for long time packed in attic or basement. It comes in an old fashion paper box, with a aluminum printed pouch inside. Th tobacco cut is thin, very thin. Of course it can be a complete rolled flake, but no..this is just a loose cut, of very thin pre-cutted leaf. In one word: crumbs (of tobacco). The main colors are dark: burley and dark virginia leafs are, to my eyes, the prominent part. Also latakia and perique are present, for sure.

The smell is wonderful to me: old style tobacco, very old tobacco, a nice blending of licorice, flower and musk scents. Perique and latakia (this second very faint) give the spicy notes. No topping. Or if it was present, it's long gone. It smells better if at right moisture level, but i prefer to dry it up a little before puffing.

Use a large bowl, don't press it too much, keep a little air between crumbs, and you get its best. Maybe because mine is old, and then it needs air like an old wine. Puffing is relaxing. If well packed and ignited, you can sometimes forget to puff. It's good smoke, pretty good to me. A nice quantity of nicotine, not overwhelming. The dry plumes note of virginia and loose cacao note of burley, spiced with perique that is like a little sour taste on tongue. Hey, it don't bite, it puff cool and full. No taste prevail, you will maybe have the sensation that it lacks in something… but that's the good part instead: balanced taste!

A great day starter tobacco. I'm puffing it now, with coffee, in a morning i have time to do things dedicating them the right amount of time! It's a good starting because after it you can choose "which note" you want to explore in taste, with other tobaccos.

Maybe Masterpiece was born as a tobacco to save crumbs of others tobacco productions, but to me is very nice!
