W.O. Larsen A True Delight

(2.17)
A classic mixture of fine leaf tobacco with exotic aromas. Just as a ballet production is a fusion of many different talents, this blend was crafted from a classic mixture, talently blended from fine leaf tobaccos. The combination of exotic aromas and alternative thinking has led to this fine product being characterized as "a true delight."

It's a good tobacco to start. It has everything. It's not to moist, the room note is pleasant, doesn't bite, you can smoke it in whatever condition, doesn't "dirt" the pipe and the best it has an hint of latakia just to give you a taste of it.

One of the tobaccos I started with. It was good, had a very pleasant aroma and I could taste a myriad of things in it. Starting with sweet syrupy vanilla cream and ending with mold and smelly socks (in a good way, if you can imagine that).

It was definitely interesting.

Simply Unique and Smooth & Tasty are better than this one, I'm afraid: this third new entry in the line of Larsen aromatics is quite flavorless (slightly sweet and fruity, but also a bit pungent due to the orientals), but burns the tongue and produces wetness in the pipe.

Quite boring, I'm afraid.

One of the first tobaccos that I liked. However smoking it now produces nothing but a hint of the taste I thought I liked and then a dreadful tongue sensation of spiced fire. Not like "good" spicy, but just flaming hot acrid evilness.

I am swaying between "Not recommended" and "Somewhat recommended" here... Oh well, It'll get Somewhat Recommended since it was the tobacco that got me into this for real.

Tastes a little bit like caramel before it goes away and is replaced by the tongue "bite". (although I've never had Real tonguebite that lasts for days, this is pretty close)

My no. 1 mistake was trying this outdoors I think. Pouch aroma was pleasant - nutty, fruit-cakey - so I thought it could bite. However it's stable partner Simply Unique had prove otherwise - so I was happy to try it out.

Easy enough to light and first taste was as expected - burning off initial coating with a nutty, roasted chestnut taste and aroma. I was smoking a Peterson P lip and the combination of this and the wind took the flovouring to the roof the mouth and it burnt ! Calmed down and smoked well enough but not relaxing - had to work at it so as not to end up with a fat tongue.

Will keep to Simply Unique and avoid this one - each to their own though. Just my thoughts.

A tobacco which on the face of it seems to have a lot going for it but in the end leaves me a little disappointed. It is very complex in its flavour and is not overly dominated by any of it?s component tobaccos. This doesn?t lead to flat taste but it does result in slightly unsatisfying smoke.

Despite the clear quality of the raw material something has been lost along the way.

An opportunity missed

This "classic delight" is a composition with a hint of latakia, light and reminiscent of autumn. Excellent in medium / small pipes, but not bad even in more capacious ones. Variety of type of leaves very well blended, good smell according to those who are close.

I'm not a Cavendish lover. I love Virginias, Burley and Latakia. So I make my own mixes using those as base. I don't use to like tobaccos that contain Cavendish, as the "Modern English Mixtures" that use Cavendish, as for example Dunhill 965. Also because my mouth and tongue don't deal well with it. So, when I bought this, it has been just a blind experiment...just because after many years I decided to test something new and different. And I've been very LUCKY! Because I loved it immediately. I smoke since 25 years, and I know my tastes. I have my many favorites, and it is a rare event when I find something new that I really like. Now this cheap leaves became one of my favourites, and for sure I will always have it in the pantry. Humidity is usually OK, it packs always well and lighting has never problem, smokes fresh and regular. It never bites, and doesn't let the bowl wet. I like also the evolution of smoke, not so complex but fulfilling, just some more sweet and aromatic when it starts, then became more "English" in the second part of the bowl, when the Latakia became more evident and intense. OK, it's not something to go crazy for, but it's really an honest, nice, cheap and easy smoke. I guess that many will not find the same qualities I see, but this is part of the game...this time the luck has be mine!

Had to buy this from the very excellent Dan Pipe online shop in Germany. You can't buy this is the U.K - well at least the outlets I know of anyway.

I'd liked the other Larsen blends I had tried - Classic, Signature, Old-Fashioned (also non available in the U.K). I like this one as well ; it's not quite as tasty as the aforementioned but not bad at all.

It's one of those solid enough blends, nothing outstanding, but great when you haven't got a clue what tobacco you want.
