The Virginias are a combination of gold and some light brown. They offer some tart and tangy citrus, a lot of grass, mild sugar, bread, vegetation, light honey, earth, wood, floralness, a minor spice note, and light acidity. There's a distracting rather tart, sour lemon quality as well. The light toppings are honey and orange. The very long flake is wrapped like a ball inside the can, and easily breaks apart. The strength and taste levels are medium. The nic-hit is a shade less potent. Has a few small rough edges. May nip the tongue and you risk a harsh note if pushed. The flavor is consistent from top to bottom. Burns clean and a tad warm at a reasonable rate. Requires a few relights, and leaves little dampness in the bowl as it can burn to ash with just a little help near the finish. Has a short lived after taste that is marred by the sour acidity. The room note is pleasant. An all day smoke that lacks depth when fresh. Two and a half stars rounded down to two.

This Golden Sliced is shockingly rich. I never have tasted a more flavorful broken flake tobacco. I cannot compare it to any other Virginia Flake I've tried. The tobacco burns cool and dry and the palate is left with a pleasant deeply rich Virginia tobacco after taste with every puff.

If you like your Virginia Flake tobacco on the mysterious and dark side, you'll appreciate this one. Personally, I like my Virginia flakes to slap me around a little bit and this one does the job.

Hard to believe this hasn't been reviewed in 7 years! At any rate, this is a "paint can" 3.5 oz job of basic virginia flake in an LGF-like long bar that is wrapped in a circle inside the can. Tin aroma is sweet grasses and light citrus. The flake is mostly golden brown with specks of darker brown.

This is about as basic a VA flake as you can get. No top notes or casings, the lemon VA exhibits a nice grassiness with a fair bit of citrus. It resembles Orliks OGS in a way but nowhere near as citrusy. This is more laid back and "rootsy". A great all-day blend or a nice intro to virginias. It's a bit too relaxed overall for me but I could see this as a nice morning smoke. Interestingly, this one smote all attempts at DGT but at the same time, I could beat this one up a bit with some aggressive puffing and it refused to bite too hard or go sour. In fact, it became more interesting as a whole. I'd recommend this one to smokers who puff somewhat fast, but it seemed to emit most of its flavors at the usual slower pace. Not the most refined or most flavorful but certainly one of the best behaved straight virginias I've ever smoked. I'll pull this out of the cellar from time to time when I need to wind down.

Peter Heinrichs - Golden Sliced (Special Selection).

This had me confused upon opening. BROKEN flake? My tin contains only one, fully intact, long, wide, coil, of flake! The flake's brown, spotted with gold, and rubs easily (I like to fully rub a flake and this couldn't be easier). The tin's aroma is sweet, grassy, and citrus-like; really bright.

I've spent this morning doing my Physiotherapy walk, accompanied by a few bowls of this along the way. 'Fresh Virginia', this is the term that sprung to mind imminently. I hold a lemony flavour the most culpable for the viridity and upbeat character; the lemons seem more like a light casing than an innate feature of the leaf. There's a slight sweetness but this isn't suggestive of a casing, it's the kind I'd expect from a good Virginia. I get no problems with the burn, it's cool, fairly slow, leaves a dottle-free grey ash, and I get no tongue bite from the smoke.

Nicotine: mild to medium. Room-note: I had a bowl in the house before lunch and it's nice!

A good summer smoke. Highly recommended:

Four stars.

Heinrichs’ Golden Flake looks inviting consisting of mainly bright Virginia’s. It does need a little dry time. In the pipe, it offers some sugar, a little hay, and what tastes like a light citrus topping. There are some small bass notes too that I find a little noticeable in the later stages of each bowl. It isn’t complex, but there is plenty of flavor to make up for that. I didn’t get any bite, although a proper Virginia cadence is recommended as it will burn hot if pushed. The sweetness deepens as the bowl progresses almost to the point of light brown sugar. I don’t have any of this aged and cellared, but given that it’s mainly a bright Virginia, I expect it will cellar well and that’s a good thing because there are a couple of issues that keep this from being a three star blend for me. As I said earlier, there is plenty of flavor, but due to the fact that it can burn hot if pushed and the bigger issue is that it offers up a little too much acidity in the later stages of the bowl to buy it again

It's tough to believe this blend isn't reviewed more or talked about more. I imagine selling it in 50g tins would help spread the love though - 100g can be considered more of a risk if you happen to not like it.

It's a very nice straight VA, a little mild, but definitely has great flavor. I recently purchased a tin of this along with Reiner 71 and have been alternating them frequently. It's a no nonsense VA, that burns easily and not too hot, that's absolutely worth trying out.

if you find that it's too mild, I might suggest smoking it in a fresh pipe, or cob, that hasn't potentially been ghosted.

Having an unopened can of this, I decided to give it a try over the Thanksgiving holidays. Upon opening the tin there is a somewhat sour aroma. Judging it from the aroma, I did not think I would like it at all! It comes in very attractive rolls, 2 per tin, that are about 2 inches wide. Moisture content seems perfect. It reminds me of "Reiner Long Golden Flake" in appearance.

Golden Slice is very easy to rub out and packs easily in the pipe. It burns very well and smokes clean and dry. I usually use 4 to 6 pipe cleaners per smoke. This required an average of two per bowl - WOW! The great surprise for me is how much I like this stuff! The flavor is a naturally sweet Virginia with a light nutty flavor. In fact, this is a light smoke all the way around for me - a definite all dayer! There is absolutely NO bad aftertaste! It smokes very cool even when the bowl gets a bit warm, provided I tamp correctly, and tastes great all the way to the bottom of the bowl! It puts out a fair bit of smoke and burns to a nice white ash. I do not detect any perique.

I have tried several bowls of this over the past several days and have enjoyed it every time. If you like a mild, natural Virginia flake, you simply MUST give this one a try! This is another tobak that I highly recommend!!!

Unlike other reviews I love the uncomplicated Virginia's in the blend. Hands down my favorite. I perceive an almond note with a tart and citrus flavour. If you can find it give it a chance fresh or cellared you can't go wrong with this blend other than to fast a cadence. 🤜🍂🔥💨🦜

I don't know that I can really add anything differently from what has already been reviewed, but I'll do it anyway. Really, all I can say is that this is some good stuff. Those who don't like straight Virginia tobacco, don't bother. For those who do like them, this is a winner. Grassy, light, and citrusy. Just like others have said. I've had many enjoyable smokes with it and will probably keep some in the rotation. It won't replace my faces, but is a good change up. Highly recommended

Golden slice is very well presented . Mainly golden , but some darker flakes , delivered as one long and circular roll . The tin note is lovely promising a really tasty smoke . Upon lighting the usual Virginia taste appears with notes of citrus and hay . Really very much like K & K flakes upon meeting the match . The problem is that after the first few puffs tongue bite makes it's ugly appearance . I tried puffing slower . I tried re-lighting . Neither worked . This is the only Virginia flake , save Sutliff and Newminister , to give me tongue bite . Some of the initial great taste comes back through the bowl but not enough to save the smoke . With all of the great Virginia flakes out there I wonder why I would smoke this one . This is very similar to Renier flake which does not bother my tongue . Case settled , when wanting a long golden Va flake go to the Reinier , not this .
