Black and mellow, full-bodied and dulcet. A velvety and aromatic mixture of an tasteful black cavendish, rounded with golden Virginias.

Due to the various cut-widths a clean, even burn is achieved. For medium to bigger sized bowls.

Notes: "Swatte Deern" is Low German and translates as "Black Girl," playing on another Dan Tobacco blend's name "Seute Deern," translating as "Sweet Girl," the name of which is probably based on the name of the still-extant windjammer De Seute Deern, based in Hamburg, where Dan Tobacco itself was based when these two blends were created.

Review based on a generous free sample with a recent order.

In ten years of pipe smoking this is only the fourth aromatic blend I have ever smoked. The reason being, I like my tobacco to taste of... tobacco.

I enjoy a good Virgina with some Black Cavendish, and maybe even a little flavouring. But I really don’t understand these heavily flavoured black Cavendish blends which to me, although having a pleasant redolence, taste like naught but sweet hot air.

With that in mind, I’m not in a position to say much about it other than I was a well behaved blend, burnt cooler than I expected and will not act as a woman repellent when I go home to my wife later. I’m grateful for the opportunity to revisit one as I sometimes read tin descriptions and feel like I’m missing out. This has confirmed I am not.
