Kleinlagel Cucumber

(4.00)
Cucumber pipe tobacco from Kleinlagel is a Ready Rubbed Virginia tobacco that is supplemented with a little Perique, natural Black Cavendish and Broad Cut Virginia. The tobacco offers an aromatic-spicy flavour of cucumber and dried fruits and is thus certainly one of the most unusual flavours on the German market. Just the right thing for a hot summer’s day. Refreshingly different, it has rather light strength with the room note of a freshly harvested cucumber field. The tobacco is produced by order of the Kleinlagel company at DanTobacco in Germany.
Notes: Out of production in 2024

I am saddened to see that this blend, I just only had the pleasure of recently trying, is already being discontinued. This is an ominous recent trend in the German pipe tobacco market. I would have stocked up on this blend if I had known this tragedy was to befall us. I was also looking forward to try Kleinlagel’s Lily of the Valley that had been highly recommended to me. There is a replacement out there for Cucumber though. Fred the Frog by Dan Tobacco has a very similar character but instead features an anise note instead of cucumber. It’s not as ‘fresh’ as this blend, but it is an example of a perique aromatic that Dan Tobacco does very well. The taste of cucumbers in this blend was natural and fresh, and complimented the spiciness of perique perfectly. It reminded me of cucumber kimchi I had in Korea during the summertime. It just refreshed the palette. It’s a shame this blend is now gone, it was incredibly unique and easy to give a 4/4.
