W.O. Larsen Spring Meadow
(2.27)
Two parts Black Cavendish, with roasted Burley and ripe Virginia - that is the recipe for this mixture. In terms of taste, a subtle note of ginger stands out among the numerous fruity aromas, which gives this tobacco a touch of the exotic.
Notes: Formerly known as "Mellow Mixture", the name was changed in accordance to EU regulations.

The cavendish style Virginias offer a fair amount of fermented tart and tangy citrus, grass, bread, sugar, mild sour lemon, floralness, light acidity, and a pinch or two of spice. They are the lead components. The very nutty, earthy, woody burley is an important supporting player. The unsweetened black cavendish is in-between the secondary support and condiment positions. I notice the spicy ginger topping a little more than the vanilla. Both moderately sublimate the tobaccos. The strength and nic-hit are a hair short of the center of mild medium. The taste level is a step past that center. It won’t bite, but fast puffing may result in a little tongue tingle. I suggest a slow puffing cadence. Burns clean, and a tad warm at a reasonable pace with a very consistent, richly sweet, mildly spicy, sugary, lightly floral flavor that extends to the lightly lingering after taste. Leaves little dampness in the bowl, and requires an average number of relights. Has a very pleasant room note. Three stars for the flavor rounded down to two for the potential tongue tingle.

In search of a mild aromatic, I was very satisfied with W.Ø. Larsen "Mellow Mixture". You definitely can smell the ginger in there, yet it is not overwhelming (I am not usually a big fan of this spice) and I can definitely also get a whiff of nuts and vanilla. When it comes to smoking, I was surprised by how easy it was to light up for an aromatic...and that was slightly wet, from a a new pouch! Also doesn't burn hot. Other thing worth mentioning: No tongue-bite! Something I have rarely experienced with aromatic blends. One not so good thing, the rough cut is maybe a little bit too rough. I pulled out a decent sized stem from the pouch and some chunks can be quite big.
A good price-quality ratio in Europe.

True to it's namesake, this tobac is very mellow with no bite at all. The room note is pleasant, it packs and burns well, and doesn't have a lot of humectant so it burns fairly clean for an aromatic. Unfortunately, it has almost no discernible flavor. Not much point in smoking flavorless tobacco.

You can also find it in 50 grs pouches in some places. This is the worst tobacco I ever smoked. This has absolutely no taste whatsoever. Avoid by all means !!!

Horrible, bitter stuff. No flavor at all other that hot air, steam and bitter yuck. Would not stay lit, even though it did not seem to be wet. Went through a whole tank of butane on the Colibri, then a whole book of matches to get half way through the bowl. I hope that this did not taint the pipe.

This is one of the more interesting and unique tobaccos in my line up. Mostly it seems to be a very nice Virginia, the taste of which reminds me of McClelland 2010, along with a flavored Cavendish, and I think there are a few strands of ribbon burley in there as well.
In the tin, it smells like a bag of ginger snaps, and the taste of ginger does seem to be very apparent in the smoke, although it does not overwhelm the backgroud tobaccol At first, the taste of the ginger put me off a bit, but I quickly got to like it. It imparts a spiciness to the smoke that might remind you a little bit of perique in so far as the way it feels in your mouth.
I really don't smoke this on a regular basis. I find I might smoke it a couple of times in a day, and then put it away for a few weeks. Too different to be a regular smoke, but excellent now and then. Three stars.

My tin of Mellow Mix was about 10 years old. A very odd smell out of the tin - not bad but... well, different. Ginger Snap cookies come to mind. The taste was very similar to some of the Lane bulk blends that are (were) distributed to tobacco shops all over the country. Lots of Vanilla, some Virginia and Burley and very mild. Not really my cup of tea but it smoked cool and was biteless.

This one produces a magical phenomenon: pleasant and full taste, but with no room aroma at all. Smoke this classic Danish mixture where you would like to be "invisible" (and of course you can manage to hide the smoke).Pleasant for every day smoking...

A nice aromatic with good tobacco flavor amid pleasing highlights of ginger and plum. Can smoke a little hot if puffed too aggressively. Recommended as a change-of-pace blend that doesn?t lose itself in an overdone topping. 3 stars
