Vanilla? Browned sugar with l cream? Hmm... i dont know, who cares. This stuff is sweet, a little grassy and very easy on your tounge. Easy to pack. Moisture is almost perfect out of the pouch, give it 20 to 30mintues and itll be excellent. Makes you forget your smoking a CAPTAIN BLACK BLEND!! They are doing something right recently, and i like the way they are going. Except that they discontinued copper.....i didnt like that one bit. Grab a pouch of this. Its wonderful.

I got a pouch of this to throw in my driving rotation which only consists of Granger, and Gawith dark Birds Eye.
Upon opening the pouch it was sweet smelling but you could smell the base tobacco’s. When I light it up I was pleasantly surprised, I got a sweet vanilla taste, and after a few puffs I got slight citrus from the Virginias. As the bowl progressed I got a slight cocoa powder flavor and a little spice. I also got some of that burley taste. It does burn a little warm if you push it. It also wasn’t a goopy mess like I thought it was going to be.
I will add to this review as I make my way through the pouch but so far so good, don’t know if it’ll make the driving rotation though.

Lane Limited - Captain Black Platinum.
Hmmm, nice flavour, bad mechanics!
The medium brown ribbons have quite a fine cut, giving off a sweet aroma. This pouch had good moisture for immediate smoking, so there was no drying time needed.
Initiating a burn is easy, then the first flavour to come across is a mild toffee one. A little like butterscotch; this is mild, not cloying and sticky. Throughout the smoke I get a 'sharp' sugar-note, a very formidable sweetness. The tobaccos? Up front is tame Burley, a mild flavour, not too rustic or hard. The Virginia gives a little bit of hay, grass, but don't expect any ripe fruit.
Now the bad news: it burns hot, does so at the speed of lightening!
Room-note: nice. Nicotine: quite mild.
Captain Black Platinum? Shame about the burn, this reduces the rating to just somewhat recommended:
Two stars.

Package note of vanilla, molasses and spices. Tobacco is a ribbon cut of orangish tan, brown and a tiny amount of dark brown. Moisture content is ok. Some pipe smokers will want to dry it out a bit. Burns moderate with few relights. The strength is mild to medium and nic is mild. Flavoring is medium, with notes of malty sweet. Several flavorings seem to be present; I concede some may be casings. I tasted mostly sugar, and at times it seemed there was a malty vanilla/maple and cinnamon, or similar spice. Taste is mild to medium and moderately consistent, with notes of spices, burnt sugar and cinnamon, maple like, orange peel, brown sugar, malty, toast, wood, nuts, mildly sour, tanginess, slightly acidic, slightly spicy, a sweet peaty vegetation background note, and a peppery retro. Flavoring is leading with Burley and Virginia supporting. Room note is pleasant to tolerable, and aftertaste is good.

Smells very similar if not almost identical to Sir Walter Raleigh Aromatic. That roasted hazelnut liqueur flavor takes the lead in aroma while it seems to lack some of the other lesser flavor notes. The sweetness comes off a bit like marshmallow which I don't find terribly appealing. A very mild vanilla note is there also. I'm not sure what STG Lane is doing here. This seems like a pointless variation on an existing blend that is better and costs less.

Threw this in an order to see what the captain was up to these days. Let me tell you. This is wonderful stuff." If" you respect it , you will be rewarded.i would call this a grassier version of CB white.its balanced better than CB gold( which tips the scales the wrong way ) The wonderful taste causes me to hit too hard, and it loses its intricacies and you will only get a bitter burley almost English taste. It's uncomplicated goodness that has became my everyday smoke. If you show it respect it will not bite you. CB copper bites me just lighting it.
Sip on CB platinum and you will remember why you smoke a pipe in the first place. All this from a drugstore blend! Home run.
