Larsen's Flake Cut is another one of those mysterious tobaccos that aren't available outside Denmark, which is a shame. A few years back I was gifted a tin of this along with a tin of Larsen's Navy Flake, from a friend visiting the UK. What I found unusual with this tobacco - especially for a 50g tin - was it was just one big flake that sort of rolled out like a sheet. The high quality virginia tobaccos rubbed out nicely and burned well. It's a medium strength tobacco and I would describe the flavor as a light rum top note with an accompanying sweetness that complemented the great virginia taste. I would definitely buy more if I could get it.

The tin of Flake Cut I am smoking is about fifteen years old, and even the bright leaf has darkened appreciably. The tin says `Sweetened with rum and honey`, but I can detect no rum or honey on the nose. The application of both has, obviously, been very discreet. The presentation is like that of Marlin Flake in bulk: a single flake nearly two feet long, folded over itself.

In the pipe Flake Cut is sheer delight. A light weight melange of virginias, with the added weight of the sweetners. If one was not looking for them, it would be all too easy to miss them. The taste and aroma is natural tobacco. The easy packing - rubbed out or not - and the easy burning make it a very user-friendly flake.

Along with Curly Cut, this is my favourite of the Larsen products I have tried. Sceptics of the Danish blending style need to sample this at least once. Recommended without any reservations whatsoever.

Larsen Flake Cut, like Shamrock, is not available for sale in the United States. I believe an etailer or two in Denmark will sell this particular blend but am not sure. I was gifted a couple of tins a year or so ago and just got around to opening one of them.

Larsen Flake Cut, as Jacob described, consists of one very long and folded flake that is very easy to rub out. The color presentation is that of darker leaf speckled with bright. There is a delicate topping that enhances the quality Virginia flavor. Simply sensational and I sure wish this one would be shipped across the pond.

I really have been enjoying this tobacco. It needs a slow burn to be best appreciated. Faster puffing does cause this one to heat up. Flavorwise, grassy undertones with a fermented "fig" type richness that pleased me. It burned cleanly to the bottom of the bowl.

This classic from W.Ø. Larsen is VERY close to Shamrock from the same company. It has the same "Earl Grey with lemon" kind of topping, but it is a wee bit more present in this blend. Nic-level are almost the same as goes with the burning qualities. The quality of the leaf is outstanding.

If you like Shamrock, you ought to try this. Buy a tin of Shamrock and Flake Cut, open the tins at the same time and see if you can detect the tiny differences. Nice, soft and sweet.
