The 1990s Turkish offers an abundance of earth, wood, floralness, buttery sweetness, mild sourness, peaty vegetation, herbs, and spice as the lead component. The matured stoved bright and red African and American Virginias produce plenty of stewed, fermented tart and tangy citrus, grass, bread, some earth, wood, bread, a little tangy dark fruit, and mild sugar as important supporting players. The musty, leathery Cyprian Latakia provides a fair amount of smoke, earth, wood, some floralness, herbs, vegetation, and pinches of salt and pepper in a secondary support role. The aspects of the dark cavendish are fermented stewed dark fruit, earth, wood, grass, sugar, and a couple of pinches of spice. It almost equals the Latakia presence. The nutty, earthy, woody, bready, sweet burley is a condiment. A little sweet casing very mildly tones down the blend. The strength and nic-hit are a step past the medium threshold. The taste is a slot past that mark. There’s no chance of bite or harshness. It’s fairly smooth with very light rough notes. Well balanced, deeply rich, and complex with subtle nuances, it burns cool and clean at a moderate pace with a mostly consistent sweet and sour, floral, fruity, smoky, spicy flavor that extends to the pleasantly lingering after taste. The room note is a little more potent. Leaves little dampness in the bowl, and requires an average number of relights. Can be an all day smoke. Four stars.
