Even if the description may almost read differently, the Whitstable is fundamentally an excellent bright and sweet Virginia Flake. This base alone would be enough for a good smoke recently. But with the Whitstable, a few more peaks and corners were tickled out by a restrained flavor addition. I can't taste the exact aroma, but even out of the tin, there's a slightly rosy, cane-sugar sweetness in addition to the bready and hay-sweet notes of the Virginia. When smoking, these notes transfer, the Virginia shows only a slight spiciness and becomes very full-bodied. The "mysterious" aroma decreases in the course of smoking, however, and also gives the citrus notes of the Virginia room.
For me, an absolute new discovery that deserves more attention.
