Peretti Thanksgiving Day 2022

(2.00)
A yearly blend for Thanksgiving. A ribbon/cube cut blend pressed together into four ounce cakes.
Notes: As many of our friends are aware, ‘Thanksgiving Day’, a four-ounce pressed cake has been a tradition since 1939. Year after year, we make it available in a limited capacity starting on November first. This effort keeps us tied to our roots when Major Joseph Peretti, father of Robert Peretti, set forth to blend Peretti’s Burley and English mixtures. The Major wanted to create a blend with the essence of the holiday season, and after countless trials, a mixture of 7 different tobaccos blended with a balance of dark rum and fruit juices was concocted and pressed into breakable 4 ounce cakes. This process has not changed since the first batch was taken from the press.

The burleys provide a lot of nuts, earth, wood, bread/toast, some molasses, light cocoa, and a little sharp, sour roughness as the lead components. The Virginias offer some tart and tangy citrus, grass, bread, mild sugar, a little floralness, a few spice notes, and a touch of acidity in secondary support. I sense a little smoky, earthy, woody, floral, herbal, vegetative, sweet and sour spicy Oriental in the mix. Some brown cavendish and Maryland mainly acts as flavor carriers. I experience a very obvious floral, soapy, perfume-like anisette, as well as something that reminds me of floral, vanilla-ish, spicy, deer tongue/couramin. It has a slight peppermint note, too. The dark rum, sweet and lightly sour fruits, and baking spices join in to lead the way as the toppings fairly subdue the tobaccos, though they don’t drown them out. The strength and nic-hit just fall shy of the medium mark. The taste is medium. No chance of bite or harshness though it does sport a few small rough edges. Well balanced with some nuance, it burns cool, clean and a tad slow with a very consistent sweet, floral, spicy, perfumy flavor that extends to the pleasantly lingering after taste. The room note is pleasant to tolerable. Leaves little dampness in the bowl, and requires an average number of relights. Not quite an all day smoke, but it is repeatable. Three stars.

I wanted to make sure to add this review prior to the release of this blend this year. This has got to be one of the WORST tasting tobaccos blends ever to be conceived. Does the description sound questionable to you? Be afraid, this blend truly is a potpourri of bizarre tastes that just dont work. After trying 3 bowls and not being able to finish a single one I can tell you this stuff is awful.
