Hearth & Home First Snow

(3.67)
When winter approaches, many pipe smokers prefer richer blends, and Hearth & Home Slow-Aged First Snow is just such a tobacco. It begins as a broken flake made of robust burley, zesty-sweet Virginias, and a bit of dark-fired Kentucky. The result is a deeply flavored blend that's comfortable and satisfying. Then, the tobaccos are placed into a press and held for a month to develop the flavors and give them a more unified richness. For anyone who enjoys the taste of burley, Hearth & Home Slow-Aged First Snow is a must try.

Very impressed. Essentially a mix of HH Burley Flake and Old Dark Fired with a proportioned helping of Bold Kentucky. I'm astonished this is yet to be reviewed. Terrific smoke. A solid brick of tobacco, with a little extra chunk floating around, I assume to make weight. It is, in a word, dynamite. A lot of dark fruit, bit of bread, grass, earth, fig and plenty of wood. The virginias are sweet. There is an unmistakable DFK smokey barbeque taste. A smidge of vinegar. Honestly, it is flippin' delicious. It's rich, it's sweet, it's meaty. I've seen reviews on other websites, that claim similarities to Mac Baren's version of Three Nuns... maybe, a little. I think First Snow is much more toward the three HH flakes I mentioned. Perfect moisture, just crumble load n' light. Minimal attention required, very dry and smooth. I love the Proenneke-esque tin art. There is some age on it, but there is potential for more. I dig this kake, man. The knocks, it can be a little bland at times and the burley gets a tad bitter by the end, however these issues are likely due to my unapologetically wolfing it down. I'm burning through this brick! 3.5 stars. Very impressed, but you wouldn't like it...

I believe I’ll defer to Pip’n’Piper’s tasting notes and simply chime in with love to bump the score. How is it that First Snow only has 2 other reviews (as of 10/23)?
I love this blend. Smooth and easy going. The individual components step up here and there, but over all it’s one well-balanced woodsy, smokey, lightly sweet smoke. Perfect with coffee on a chilly morning. Or anytime really.

Perfect moisture content results in easy packing and a uniform smoke without condensation. No bite and smokes evenly. I normally smoke VA flakes and this one is a bit too woodsy for my taste.
