The various matured and aged red Virginias provide plenty of fermented tart and tangy ripe dark fruit, earth, wood, bread, vegetation, sugar, some tart and tangy citrus, very mild spice, light vinegar, floralness, and a few small sour lemon and smoke notes. The strength and the nic-hit are medium. The taste is a step past that mark. There’s no chance of bite or harshness, but it does sport a few small rough edges. This plug isn’t hard to break apart. It does have some moisture. As is my custom when I review, I did not dry it or see the need for it. Your mileage may vary on this point. Burns cool, clean, and slow with a very consistent, deeply rich tangy sweet, fairly smooth flavor that extends to the pleasantly lingering after taste and room notes. Leaves little dampness in the bowl. Requires some relights whether you give it any dry time or not. Can be an all day smoke. Four stars.
