Ken Byron Ventures Mr. Christian’s Bright Side 2022

(3.00)
The original version of Bright Side was just a mix of bright Orientals and Virginia with a light Elderflower/Lemon casing. The last version added a dollop of an obscure floral honey. This version increases the level of honey in the casing for people who wanted us to explore that further.

The very floral Basma, Prilep and Yenidje brights offer plenty of earth, wood, herbs, vegetation, some buttery sweet and sourness, and a fair amount of spice. They take a small lead. The bright Virginia provides a lot of tart and tangy citrus, grass, some bread, sugar, floralness, sour lemon, light vegetation, a few pinches of spice, and a little bitter acidicy. It’s a competitive supporting player; a little more so than before due to a change in one of the brights in the mix. The delicate tartly sweet and sour, fruity, floral, slightly herbal lemon and elderflower casings have a little less of an impact than the earlier versions of this blend due to the increase of the tupelo honey. All of them mildly tone down the tobaccos. Won’t bite or get harsh, and has fewer rough edges than the 2021 production. The strength, nic-hit, and taste levels are medium. Burns cool and clean at moderate pace with a very consistent tartly sweet and sour, floral, spicy, lightly acidic flavor that extends to the pleasantly lingering after taste. Leaves little dampness in the bowl. Requires an average number of relights. The room note is a tad stronger than the after taste. Can be an all day smoke.

This review is fairly much the same as the 2021 version, and I note a few differences in the first paragraph. This production seems to be a tad smoother, sweeter, less acidic, floral and not quite as strong. The extra Tupelo casing mildly mutes the lemon and elderflower casings, and is the lead additive. That extra honey mildly smooths the blend a touch more than before. Three and a half stars.
