Dry it first and smoke slowly, or risk some warmth on the tongue. Won't bite, and has virtually no nicotine. The vanilla topping has little depth, though it does tone down the tobaccos almost completely. Burns moderately well and leaves little moisture in the bowl. Needs an average number of relights. Has a decent after taste. An all day smoke that can be used as a mixer.

I'm not going to compare this to other aromatic blends costing several times more. Taken for what it is, a super bargain, it deserves 4 stars. Paid 17 bucks for a 12 ounce bag, more than a bargain it's a great value since it tastes and smells quite good. Burns cool, no goopy junk at the bottom, and I just love the aroma.
The flavor is mild, you can still taste tobacco, the vanilla casing is strong but it comes out more as aroma and room note. While there is a faint chemical undertone (to be expected from a blend like this one) it is not as PG laden as Captain Black or any of the other Lane blends. In fact, this stuff is less than half the price of Captain Black and more than twice as good.
The only slight issue is the cut; very rough cut that makes it sometimes hard to evenly pack a bowl. At this price though I can't complain.
I will highly recommend this if you like aromatics

I understand opinions are opinions but I dont understand some of these negative reviews. Its not that bad of a drugstore blend, in fact its way better than Captain Black white. It has less of a chemical taste as in CB blends. The mix of the black cavendish create a nice and pleasant vanilla aroma. Smokers Pride vanilla is a lot better than a lot of "vanilla" drugstore blends. I have smoked a lot of high end tobaccos in my days of pipe smoking and this rates up there with some high end aromatics. The flavors I pick up are sugar cookies with buttercream tints. It smells like a chocolate/vanilla cookie. There really is no bite unless you puff like a chimney. Its not heavily cased like most drugstore aromatics. Moist to the touch but not too moist. I recommend this blend to anyone with a sweet tooth and likes aromatics. It might not appeal to the english smokers. I honestly think people are just ashamed to admit they "like" a drugstore blend but I'm not afraid to admit it one bit.. this is pretty good stuff for a drugstore blend. I was actually very shocked.

(Do Not Be Afraid)...Whatever you have read on a negative level concerning this pipe tobacco blend disregard it. I have blended pioe tobacco for years, heck!!! it was my job for awhile, I have smoked many pipe tobacco blends over the years everything from Mac Baren to McClelland all the way to Dunhill's Balkan Sobranie to the bulk guys like Peter Stokebbye, Sutliff, Lane and Middleton, there are hundreds I could write out a huge list and go on and on. My point is Smokers Pride I mean what? really? when I worked for tobacco I passed up this stuff all the time and I used there black cavendish to blend with and that was about it. I judged it without even smoking it bases on its price and when I was younger if I didn't come in a can it was crap, boy was I wrong and for years I was missing out on a ton of great pipe tobacco but these days not so much, I am not like that anymore and I'm very open to multiple pipe tobaccos in many forms, variety is the spice of life for sure so don't sell yourself short and be a foolish pipe yuppy like I was at one time. SMOKERS PRIDE VANILLA CAVENDISH by Lane Limited is a really good pipe tobacco, the leaf is good quality giving a smooth smoke at a decent price. I was shocked when I smoked this because you read about this stuff like its smoking leaves from your backyard with a hint of vanilla, I mean common give me a break no its actually not. I was surprised when I smoked this that it actually taste alot like RLP-6 from Lane or even Captain Black (white pouch) serious pretty dang close to it. There are a few things that are different like for one its not as sweet and in depth but still robust and the vanilla is there but light and consistent really allowing the natural tobacco to shine through and it does AND it taste good. It does not taste or smell like chemicals that's a bunch of bull and its moist when freshly opened but not in a goopy way at all, it actually burns clean and smokes very well I was even surprised that it burned into a clean white ash. I enjoy this also because of the fact that the vanilla is not in your face strong and that the sweet comes from the tobaccos so its a really enjoyable smoke. It does not taste cheap and the stigma of this so called OTC phenomenon is not a reality but it being a great pipe tobacco blend is. The nicotine level is pretty low but still gets the job done and has a nice room note "thus sayith my wife" so all and all its well rounded and a good smoke period. I would recommend this to a novice pipe smoker because its gentle and taste good. I'm actually smoking this as I write this out along with a nice cup of black coffee and its very pleasent. Vanilla Cavendish is worth the money there is nothing wrong with it, I know pipe yupps just don't wanna admit they actually like a cheaper pipe tobacco blend because its not like its gross. So go buy some the stuff is actually fine. Make sure to read my review on Smokers Pride Rum as well. This is only my opinion and I write all this for your reading enjoyment because I know I enjoy reading others reviews, God bless all you fellow pipe smokers and God bless America, make sure to stand for your smoking rights and support your American tobacco farmers because they need it right now, until the next review take care and bye for now.

I find this blend quite pleasant. Flavor and strength are mild but refreshing. The room note is wonderful. Burns well for nice relaxing smoke. Only think i dont like much is the rough cut. This is a very course cut blend with huge pieces of tobacco throughout. Still I give this a solid 3 stars.

I received a pouch of this in a grab bag that I got along with my pipe tobacco order. It consists of course medium size dark and light brown tobacco. It has a vanilla liqueur smell out of the bag. Tastes okay and as a value blend is pretty good but since I am not an all-day pipe smoker I would rather spend a little more and smoke something better.

This was a generous sample from a box pass. I have been smoking through an ounce maybe. The cut is irregular, with pieces and a few torn bits of leaf. It is roughly half black and half tan. The level of moisture was on the dry side of perfect, so I don't know how long it has been in the baggie.
At first light it is a little chemical in taste but it settles down to a mildly sweet flavor. Many black cavendish blends taste musty to me and this does not. The tobacco flavor is very mild - maybe a little nutty, but it is hard to tell. There is a hint of a bitter edge when puffed. It stayed lit without incident.
There is not much to recommend this, but I can smoke it. It is a solid 2 on the rating scale. In a SP aromatic, I think Rum Cured and Whiskey are better smokes.

Ok, this stuff is simply bad. I purchased a bag (12 ounces) since several trusted friends had told me that it was a "decent enough cheap smoke." No. It has a very strong chemical taste, which simply overwhelms anything good. I tried baking the P&G off, with lukewarm success. That did make my house smell like roasting marshmellows for a few hours and thet is about the best I can say for this stuff. It is still strongly chemical tasting. I would try to use it for compost but I am scared that it will hurt my plants. Looks like this just gets thrown out.

Okay...this is certainly not a gourmet, tight tin connoisseur's tobac. Is what it is, a mild, lightly cased vanilla aro blend whose best utility is as a mixer with a higher quality vanilla item, or fruity flavoured aro. Nor is it so marginal that reviewer Ricochet, below, also found it enjoyable with a cherry cavendish poly bulk blend. In this way a budgetary challenged smoker can stretch the pleasure and not have to deplete the debit card balance.
I've mixed this with E.A. Carey's "Light Vanilla" and "Argosy Match" from pipesandcigars.com and created a more pleasurable, sweeter smoke. This also mixes well with any of the Altadis or Milan vanilla blends. Paladin's "Black Cherry" or Admiral's Choice "Cherry Cavendish" by Dream Castle are also viable blending options.
Sure, smoking it solitary is a two star endeavor but I raise it to = three stars as a worthy, cost effective if not frugal blending alternative. Happy hunting...

First off, I've been sitting on this for about a year. I bought it in the pouch version, then forgot I'd bought it. After sifting the twigs out of this stuff, I loaded it up in a cob, The General Model. The vanilla scent is very subtle after sitting for a year. It lit well, only needed to be lit once. Made copious amounts of smoke. The scent and flavor, were not unlike a milder version of Capt. Black White. No icky dottle remained, just a fine grey ash. I'll finish this pouch, but I'm not sure I'd buy it again.

Upon opening the bag, the scent of the thick gloopy vanilla casing Punch's you in the face. Some drying time doesn't hurt before firing this stuff up, as it is sticky to the touch. The vanilla flavouring tones out the tobbacos natural taste almost completely. For a cheap Cavendish blend, I find this to be quite enjoyable when sipped. No tongue bite to speak of. A trusty corn cob pipe and Bic lighter are appropriate to smoke this stuff with, when tinkering around the yard.

I like vanilla cavendish blends, but this one is not my favorite. It loads and lights well even when fresh, but the flavor IMHO, is far from what I expected from a blend like this. The price is good, but I won't be buying this again.
UPDATE: 12-10-2018 I mixed this half and half with Smoker's Pride Black Cavendish. This produces a reasonably flavorful blend. I'll keep this around for the rare occasions when my favorites aren't available.

Slightly strong and potent right from the bag, so some airtime is needed. Allowing this blend to air also helped to eliminate bite. Pouch note is very nice and translates well in the smoke. If you really like vanilla you'll enjoy this. As for me, this made a good mixer. I used a healthy dose of it in a blend using Velvet and Blenders Gold Toasted Cavendish-which makes a very tasty bowl of pipe fare. In short, SPV is a good and economical choice for those that dig vanilla weed and a good addition if you're looking to stretch things out.

i purchased this tobacco in 12 oz bag on hopes of vanilla taste and aroma. i cant say i was very disappointed. the room note is acceptable to many and the vanilla taste fades in and out throughout the smoke. the tobacco humidity out of the pouch want as many describe (gooey) it burns easily and leave very few dottles (common problem with cavendish blends). it burns a bit on the harsh side so one have to be careful taming this blend. acceptable mass produced blend on an acceptable price, not the fancy stuff but it just might be that pouch you keep in the glove box!

OK, first let me say this is not top shelf tobacco but it isn't God-awful either. The trick is to dry it well. I prefer to stove it in my oven in a clean brown paper grocery bag at 170 degrees for about 30-40 min. Leave the bag open at the top. When you take it out, immediately begin turning it in the bag with your fingers. You will see vapors of what appears to be smoke coming off of the tobacco. It is not. It is the ppg or other humicant on the tobacco rapidly evaporating off. Do this until it is only slightly warm and feels dry. put it in an air tight container for a few days. This process not only makes this tobacco easier to smoke, it also tones down the vanilla taste and eliminates most of the chemical ppg taste/odor. I sometimes add some MacB Virginia to this about 50-50. It gives it more character and a fuller, rounder taste.
With the economy the way it is, I'm not going to be smoking $50 a pound tobacco all day, everyday. Sorry, I need to feed my family and put gas in the vehicles, and pay the utilities! Sometime you just got to find tricks to maintain your pipe smoking pleasure. This works for me.

It' not the most fancy tobacco out there but it's certainly not the worst. It smokes cool and mild if treated well. Not a particularly complex flavor, or even a prominent one for that matter. But I'll tell you... you will not find one person who does not like the vanilla roomnote. This tobacco is to be enjoyed during times when you just want something quick and cheap while in a hurry, mowing the lawn or whatever. I smoke this on a regular basis and save the fancier tobaccs for special occations or when I have time to really sit and enjoy myself.

There are two things that can make this tobacco taste like crap: smoking too fast and a dirty pipe.
Smoked slowly and carefully in a good, clean pipe, you are guaranteed to have a tasty cavendish treat with a sweet room note that will attract the ladies.
This tobacco is very much like Captain Black (white label) only about 3x less expensive. Great buy!

I love vanilla blends and I've wanted to try this one out for a while, just to see mainly what the fuss was about.
As to the fuss, I still don't know. It doesn't smell like vanilla that much, and any smell you get is very, very chemical. Tastes boring, very one dimensional.
Though not terrible, there are much better vanilla mixtures out there, as I'm sure almost everyone is aware. But still, let it be said.
I think I'll stick to Mac Baren's Vanilla Cream for my vanilla fix.

Commonly referred to as a drugstore blend because of it's cheap price Smokers Pride Vanilla Cavendish is ok as an aro but not great. If you're nearly broke then go for it, otherwise look for a different brand if you can. There are other cheap brands that are better. If you want to try it then buy a pouch, not a 12 oz bag. Like many aromatics it does not cellar all that well beyond one year.

I won't rave of this blend, but I can't really knock it either...For a drugstore blend, I've defenately smoked worse and while it's cheap and a bit moist it packs well and takes a light with no fuss compared to the stuff that has no flavor and bites like a crazy black cat. Best of all it It burns cool, and no bite! It seems to be made up of mostly black cavendish and a lighter tobacco. I go back and forth between this and the Smoker's Pride straight Black Cavendish which I picked up at the same time. Now after both of those, I would even try the Cherry blend they have. The Black Cavendish has a bit stronger flavor, but this vanilla is a dryer, softer smoke. The vanilla comes through and it ends up tasting like is smells (kind of a rasin like/vanilla) with the usual sweet room note. Again, might not be the best out there but it's not too bad either...you'll be impressed if you take it for what it is. I think it's better than the usual cheap stuff, or even Captain Black. The only thing I've noticed is it leaves a bit of an aftertaste. I guess it's ok, but I wouldn't get it again.

My brother smokes this stuff by the bagful. He gave me about half a pound for Christmas (I gave him half a pound of Gawith and Hoggarth's Bob's Chocolate Flake. Who do YOU think came out on top?!)
It reminded me of Captain Black White. The strong black cavendish was rough on my throat. And it made the rim of my pipe bowl shiny and sticky with sugar and goo. It's rougher than Captain Black.
I wanted to like this, because I have so much of it. But, alas, I don't. I'll stick it away in a closet for emergencies, but I won't buy any more.

For me, this blend is the pipe tobacco equivalent of a hostess snack cake ..total "junk food", but sometimes really hits the spot.
Lighting this stuff up, I am greeted by a wave of fresh vanilla with some surprisingly nice tobacco flavor in the background. This is not a gourmet vanilla, per se (looking at you Mac Baren) but more of a straight-ahead, grocery store vanilla extract type of vanilla.
For me, any really desirable flavor typically dissipates in the last quarter of the bowl. The remaining bits at the end are goopy, but not offensively so.
A great smoke for when you don't want to think too much, are concerned about the 'room note', etc. ...not gourmet pipe tobacco, but it's not pretending to be.

You could buy 12oz of tobacco you don't want to smoke or like 6-8 of tobacco you do. I'd pick the former, this is the latter . Everything about it is horrible, it smells chemically and not very vanilla, the cut is very weird and there are lots of larger pieces of unbroken leaf, it is a pain to pack, a pain to light, and indeed painful to smoke as well. Save your money and find something good in the bulks section, 1q, PS luxury twist flake,

I'm going to go with a similar opinion of most of the reviewers here and not come right out of the gate and start bashing Smoker's Pride/Lane for this product. Buying 12 ounces of tobacco for under $14.00 (Ohio price) should really clue you in on the quality of what you are buying. Taking that into consideration, anyone who is surprised by the fact that this isn't a gold metal winning tobacco needs a reality check. It's the "bulkiest" of bulk tobaccos you can buy and must have one hell of a following because they are making this stuff by the truck loads.
Personally I picked up a big bag of SPVC because I see it all the time at the tobacco shop and have always wondered how it was. So a few weeks ago while I was in picking up a can of Price Albert I asked for a bag of the Vanilla. I wasn't expecting anything incredible or complex that would cause me to sit and analyse the experience for hours. I got exactly what I paid for...
Tin/Bag Note... When I opened the bag I fully expected that the vanilla would knock my socks off. I was actually a little surprised that it wasn't as strong as I expected. It might be the topping they use or the propylene glycol used as a preservative/moisturizer but there is a distinct alcohol smell in addition to the vanilla. In the bag this smells more like a vanilla liqueur than a true "vanilla" flavored tobacco.
Loading/Lighting... Packing and lighting this is just fine. Most of the Lane products I've used over the years are all pretty consistent in this department. I like to call them pipe training tobaccos. Easy to pack/light/smoke without much worry about tongue bite. The moisture level was pretty good right out of the bag as well... again probably the PG in there keeping it good for years on a store shelf.
Smoking/Flavor... Once lit you shouldn't have any problems with keeping this stuff burning. Giving it a little extra time to dry before lighting will only help in this department and you don't need to pay careful attention to this tobacco in order to keep smoking. I put this pipe down more than a few times and came back to it several minutes later to find I was able to stoke it up again without much effort. Where this tobacco really falls short is in the flavor department.
I was really expecting this stuff to be almost overpowering vanilla... It's not... You get some vanilla flavor with your first light and not long after that it becomes a bland and completely unremarkable smoke. Honestly I was expecting to get sick of the flavor of vanilla but I actually got the opposite from this. It doesn't really even have the flavor of tobacco... It's more of a smoky, bland "paper fire" kind of taste with the slightest "hint" of vanilla in there every so often to remind you that you are smoking a flavored tobacco. I didn't even get much Cavendish flavor or a general sweetness... Honestly this was the soul reason for my giving this tobacco a lower rating.
I've seen some reviewers comment that this is actually better than Captain Black - White... I have to disagree with that statement. With CBW you can at least get a slight tobacco flavor once you get past the topping but here you get almost nothing.
I have smoked a few ounces of this over the course of a few weeks now and I will probably take what is left and cellar it for a while to see if it helps the vanilla flavor set into the tobacco better. Maybe after a few months in a jar it will balance itself out and I will have a better result. Until then I would recommend most people going with Captain Black (White or Royal) to get their vanilla cravings satisfied.

I enjoyed the Smokers Pride black cavendish so purchased some of the vanilla. Lemme tell you, this is terrible stuff. Not QUITE as bad as the cherry but almost. On the upside, it is pretty dry and lights/stays lit quite well. That and the price are this tobaccos only redeeming qualities. Harsh tasting, tongue biting, and stinky. In the bag it smells "ok" but while burning I can only compare it to the smell of burning grass (lawn not pot). I tried blending this with some other tobaccos and still not worth smoking. The rest of this went on the plants outside to kill bugs, hopefully it does this well. Not recommended at all.

Nothing impressive with this tobacco. I did not hate it, just found nothing really good about it either. I did not notice any "chemically" taste, just bland tobacco with no taste of vanilla (hardly any odor of it either). The only things I find notable about it is its very cheap price and the ability to blend it with other more tasty tobaccos and you don't notice it even there. Smoker's Pride makes a cherry that is horrible HOWEVER I found that by mixing three parts of this blend with one part of the cherry flavored, it turns something unsmokeable into something I actually can tolerate. I will not buy this product again but if given to me as a gift I would use it unlike the cherry which I can only recommend for use as a bug killer or plant fertilizer.

Smoker's pride is a cheap end blend but their Vanilla is worth while. It's not as tasty as other Cavendish based Vanilla blends but I do buy it now and then in bulk as a quick fire side smoke or when I'm mowin' the yard. It's very mild with a respectable room note. I don't really take pride in it and I hide it from my picky pipe smoking friends but I do find myself dipping out of the bag a couple times a month. But since I go for high end blends and only puff on my day off(sunday) now it sits there on the shelf most the time. It has a slightly bitter taste but the casing is pretty good for such a cheap blend. Not a bad bet but you will upgrade to a higher end Vanilla Cavendish soon. Tastes the best in a long stemmed pipe to mellow out the bitter bit.

Smooth mild Cavendish with a good dose of vanilla. Smells and tastes great. Not much more expensive than potting soil. What's not to like about this? Great stuff!
I think it'll be great blended with the cherry cavendish. I just mixed some to try out.
Yep! It makes a great blend! Neither overpowers the other. You can smell and taste both in a nicely balanced mix. Great stuff! A terrific "dessert aromatic." I love it! Be aware that any pipe you try cherry in will taste and smell like cherry for a good while if you switch back to other stuff, though.

I confess a fondness for vanilla aromatics, and this blend has vanilla flavor in abundance. The flavor lasts throughout the bowl, and burns to a clean ash. Not a wet or goopy blend, I have gone thru several pounds of this stuff and much enjoy the taste - only problem there is some element of this blend I don?t know if is the flavorings toppings or the base tobaccos that does not agree with my throat and sinuses, too bad as it is truly a bargain and otherwise much to my liking.

Okay, the topping is great, right out of the bag u just want to eat it. If u leave it in ur car, it will smell up the whole thing with a wonderful vanilla aroma. The downside, however is the tobacco used is not ur highest grade stuff which makes it hard to enjoy esp. if u have already been spoiled with some high grade tobacco. I dont know what it is, but it is hard to get througha bowl of this stuff without a thousand relights, maybe its just me, but i guess for what it is and the price is very cheap, it is an alright tobacco for the person on a seriously tight budget, but if u can, get some dunhill A21000 or MB Vanilla Cream, u will be amazed at the difference.

I agree with the others that said you could do a lot worse for $1.99. Not great, but a decent smoke that would suffice in a pinch. If price was the only issue as to which tobacco to smoke, this would be a good choice.
I would say this is closer to Captain Black Gold than White. Captain Black White has a much nicer room aroma than Smokers Pride Vanilla.

Comparable in some respects to Captain Black White, but just a tad weaker. The vanilla wasn't as strong as I would have liked, but I got lots of "Mmmmmm.... that smells good!" from non-smokers who smelled it in the room. No adverse comments at all! Light, relatively pleasant, and certainly inexpensive. I added the rest of the pouch to the blend I'm making, and it smoothed it out pretty good. All in all, an excellent blending bulk, and one I'd like by itself at anytime, but especially for a mild, inoffensive "walking around" tobacco.

Nothing memorable here. An okay, inoffensive mixture for the novice piper. Light vanilla flavoring taste either disappoints or relieves the smoker, since the aroma from the (unsmoked) blend itself suggests a stronger flavoring. If one is looking for another inexpensive vanilla 'fix', Captain Black's White would be the one.

I found this brand to be rather potent for an aromatic. I took a full puff on my pipe like always, and it felt like I just snorted fine columbian blend cocaine through my nose it burnt so bad. One of the first aromatics (unless you consider captain black white an aromatic) I tried. $1.59 at my local smoke shop, I always stock up on it when I make it to the area. Smoker's Pride cherry and vanilla cavendish is an excellent 2 blend mixture.I will def. try the regular black cavendish and the rum cured tobacco by this fine company.......Lane Limited should show more pride in their make and actually include this in their brands.

This is not recommended if you smoke just this. On the other hand I put some Peter Stokkebye 1882 mixture to spike it and it takes the bite off of it. Hey I cant throw away 9ounce bag away so I improvise.

I purchased this for someone else and didnt know what they smoked. I never had a chance to give it to them and decided to try it out myself. It comes in a nice sized bag and the price was perfect. The aroma was very pleasant and like the previous reviewer think it makes my office smell great. I leave it in my top right desk drawer. It is a black and tan mix of cavandish and like its name has a vanilla topping. This is just the right amount of topping. You can pick up on the taste, but that is about all there is to it. There is nothing at all complex about this tobacco. It has no tongue bite at all and burned fairly nice down to the last bit of dottle. This would be the perfect working tobacco knowing that it is a simple tobacco with no bite, you would have to pay little attention to it at all. It is a great all day tobacco simply due to the cost. It is a great social smoke seeing as it probably would not offend hardly anyone. All in all, I would have to say that this would probably be one of the best beginner tobaccos available. I may just keep some of this around to smoke when I am busy outdoors and dont want to use some of my more expensive tobaccos.

I bought this and a pouch of the Whiskey Smoker?s Pride early into my pipe smoking days. I figured at $1.99 each for a 1.5 oz pouch if I didn?t like it, no huge money loss that might entice me to finish the pouches anyway. I was delightfully surprised. It was very easy to pack, easy to light and gave off a nice aroma. The vanilla notes was not as strong as say, Captain black white, or Prince Albert?s Soft Vanilla, but that was actually a welcomed change as early in my pipe smoking days, I really only smoked heavily flavored pipe tobaccos. This was actually my first step into tobaccos that had a more natural flavor without going straight to totally non-flavored. Call this a gateway tobacco if you will. Great for new smokers that want to ease their way into non flavored or lightly flavored tobaccos without the bite of some of the more expensive flavored offerings. Granted, if smoked hard and hot, this will bite a bit, but in a corn cob or Dr. Grabow filtered pipe, this is a nice, relaxing smooth smoke that I still keep in my weekly rotation. When price and availability are factored in, this is definitely one I will always keep even if I smoke a bowl once a week. Reccomened to flavored lovers and newer smokers alike.

This is what it says it is and nothing more. Nothing wrong with that. It is bland, better as a blender. I remember the tobacco shop in our mall in the 80s. I got to know the guy that worked there...at least ok. I recall he said one of their most popular house "specialty" blends they always sold tons of from their glass apothecary jars, was I'm about 99% positive, this Vanilla mixed with the same brand Cherry flavor. Definitely a 2 bag blend. I forget the name they called it. People went ape over it, bought it for a couple dollars an ounce in the 80s, when it was just 2 cheap bag blends dumped together. They used it with other examples as well. Hard to believe nowadays, but I guess there weren't tobacco snobs yet. Anyways, nothing wrong with blending off with other unpalatable types. It's a good purchase overall due to price. As it is people love the room note of it. Call it "Fall equinox sugar cookie" and you'll probably even get some thumbs up. By itself I find it basically tastes like air unless you use a small bowl briar that can somewhat condense the smoke. It ain't better than Capt.Black. No way. More of a diet caffiene free Capt.Black where the ice has melted down a bit.

My experiences with this brand has differed from time to time but locally speaking it's still my favorite brand of pipe tobacco.
The vanilla can be a bit difficult to enjoy for me. I have trouble dealing with the sweetness of it fresh. I recommend drying it or even airing it out to some extent.
You can smell it through 2 bags if your nose is tuned so the smell can become an issue. The taste is better dried than fresh. I've had my most recent 12 ounce bag aging for a few months and it seems to help. To be honest I bought almost every smoker's pride blend to try it for myself and this has got to be the most troubled blend I have dealt with.
I recommend it for the very patient smoker in a brand new pipe. You may want to designate this blend to a certain pipe as the smell alone can sort of invade any other tobacco you smoke out of the same pipe as you smoked "Smoker's Pride Vanilla Cavendish" out of. The smell from the smoke actually tends to be similar to an incense so you don't want too much but a little is fine and can actually be quite pleasant. It's the taste from the smell that I don't much care for.

With all due respect to another reviewer, I found two other things that made this stuff taste like crap... lighting it and puffing it.
This was an early Christmas gift from a well-meaning but utterly clueless non-smoking friend. Much to my chagrin, it's the 12 oz bag. In actual fact, this tasted mostly like a sour batch of warm air with a mild trace of vanilla in the air and a fair amount of juiciness in the pipe. I haven't smoked Captain Black in many years but I don't recall that being this much of a waste of time. Yet both are blended by Lane's and I suspect this is CBW using a much lower quality leaf and a much higher percentage of propylene glycol for shelf-life. Not recommended at any price, including free.
As per my custom, I did blend this with some C&D Kelly's Coin and got something smokable. However, in order to make it so, I had to use a very high ratio of KC to this - so much that it makes much more sense to chuck this mess and smoke KC straight. On the other hand, smokers of CBW should give this a shot. They may like it as much and save money to boot.

I purchased a bag of 'Smoker's Pride' (if you could really call it that!) in 2009. Residing in South Korea, I thought that I had scored some good baccy considering how hard it is to find quality stuff here.
Initially, it had some aroma to it but lacked any depth/tone to the overall flavor. Yes, there was a hint of Vanilla but it was rather in passing and one cannot enjoy a good smoke based on aroma alone. I am glad that I did not smoke this stuff in my Stanwell pipe! It tends to leave goop at the bottom... even after a year of sitting in the bag! It has now, sadly, soured my Benton Churchwarden pipe (but I am willing to part with it anyways)
I had thought that after having given this baccy a year that it would turn into something worth going back to. Sadly, it has left nothing but a bitter taste in my mouth.
I would not recommend this to those considering this as a starter. If you're really on a budget, hit the Captain Black's or Alsbo gold (now this one's a treat!).

I had high hopes that this tobacco would be descent because the smell from the bag is amazing! That's where the goodness ends though. This one tasted like low quality tobacco and chemicals that somewhat resembled vanilla. It does leave a good room note though. If you buy this tobacco, I would recommend not smoking it, instead, set it out for an air freshener.

This is my first review. And I will first say that I have simple tastes for the most part. I enjoy unassuming tobacco and my favorite so far has been of the codger burley variety...you guessed it, the famous prince. I do, however, enjoy a nice aromatic from time to time as a "snack". There are MUCH BETTER blends out there just from Lane LTD (who makes this also). This is by far one of their worst IMHO. If you want a cheap drug store/ wal-mart aromatic, try the captain black royal or white, but don't waste your beer money on this. How could they call it Vanilla? The stuff does not even smell like vanilla. It smelled like cheap perfume and the taste was nothing but chemical. I even have this stuff for about 6 months hoping it would get better, but it's actually getting worse. Don't waste your money. That's just my 2 cents.

If I could give a blend a -10 stars...I would do that with this blend. Please take into account that I HATE this blend. I am not a hater of aromatics...infact I lean heavily with aromatics than any other blend. Maybe that is why I dislike this blend so much. There are so called " drug store tobaccos " but this takes the cake as the worst. This vanilla is a mockery of what vanilla tobacco should be. If I had nothing other than this tobacco to smoke...I would quit. The only savind factor of this blend is that it smells great in the package. The tounge bite is unbearable...the smoke lingers on this cheaply designed room note and the nasty ash-tray taste that lingers in your mouth for days. Take this review with a grain of salt people...cause I loath this blend...it is the bane of all tobacco blends...Happy puffing --Eric--

In terms of a vanilla, I find this have an authentic flavor, probably due to the black cavendish used in this blend. Has a nice flavor, with some notes that I can only describe as "rough". In terms of aroma, I have had varied reactions, I smoked this in a coffeehouse and one of the owners thought it smelled like a cigar, my brother thought it smelled like cotton candy. I think it just has a strong vanilla smell, kind of like extract of vanilla. Very little to no bite. Would not recommend this to someone who lives with non-smokers, as they might think this to have a strong odor. Would recommend this to someone who enjoys a medium to strong aromatic tobacco.

I bought this from a grocery store with some trepidation. I was completely out of tobacco and needed a fix and this was available and the price was right (cheap). This surprised me, however, because it is actually really good. The bag imparts a very pleasant vanilla and tobacco smell. I like to leave the bag lying out in my office because the room then smells fantastic. Who needs air fresheners when you can leave this out? As for the smoking, this blend is very mild. It took me a few pipe fulls to really taste the vanilla and the smoke aroma is nice and mellow. If you are looking for a good, mellow aromatic smoke and are on a budget, then check this out.
Update: I've downgraded my review because I doubt that I will buy this again unless desperate. There is just too much good tobacco out there to waste money on this unless you can't get to your tobacconist.
