A no-nonsense cherry blend that needs to be slightly dried first and smoked slowly afterwards, or you may experience a light harsh note. You don't really get get much tobacco taste except for a very mild toasty nuttiness and earth from the burley. Has very little nicotine, and won't bite. The flavor is consistent all the way through, and it burns clean at a reasonable pace. Has a pleasant after taste and is an all day smoke, though it does lack a little depth in the cherry topping.

Oct 25, 2017 This was the first pipe tobacco I tried. That was 24 years ago when some college mates and I decided to go to a local Walgreens (in the town where the college I was attending at the time) and get some pipes and tobacco. Since then I have tried many different kinds of pipe tobacco. I always keep coming back to this one.

If you dedicate a pipe, (or many, in my case) this tobacco will reward you with a sweetness and depth of cherry flavor that, in my opinion, is very satisfying, particularly if you are a cherry tobacco guy like myself who likes aromatics. I know that in the vast world of pipe tobaccos, both aromatic and otherwise, this is known as a rather "economically priced" one that does not garner as much praise as more expensively priced tobaccos. However in my humble opinion, it holds its own against any other cherry tobaccos.

The secret, at least for me, was to smoke nothing but this for quite awhile, and let your pipe get acclimated to the tobacco. I know this may be difficult for some pipe smokers who like to try many different kinds in a single pipe, but if you dedicate at least one pipe to this tobacco (and let your palate reset itself, so to speak) it will really open itself up to you. This taste is so much better than when I first tried it so many years ago using this approach.

This blend has grown on me over the years. It's an entirely serviceable blend that slowly reveals its charms to the smoker as one gets to know it. This blend demands one's full attention-- slow sipping is required to avoid tongue bite as well as to reveal the complexities of its flavor and aroma. Frequent, controlled draws are needed to keep it satisfactorily aflame. Once mastered, one is rewarded with a flavor palette of brown sugar, toasted marshmallows, pastry, and just a hint of cavendish sweetness. While the overall flavoring is moderately intense at most, its character changes as the bowl goes down, and succeeds at being a rewarding, complex, and satisfying flavor experience. What little cherry there is to be found evidences itself only to the nose, with a room note not unlike that of Prince Albert with a suggestion of cherries added to the bouquet.

Not a blend to be smoked without due effort, this will bite you if smoked casually--say, while performing yard work. Once it does bite, the rest of the bowl is pretty much a lost cause. With that caveat in mind, I cautiously recommend Smoker's Pride Cherry to those seeking a moderately flavored, moderately complex blend at a bargain price. It is a much better blend than such drugstore stalwarts as Middleton's Cherry Blend, Paladin Black Cherry, and Borkum Riff Cherry Liqueur. Cheers!

I am a big fan of Lane Limited Cherry flavored tobacco products. I feel that their Very Cherry bulk tobacco and their Captain Black Cherry are the quintessential cheery tobaccos that taste exactly like they smell and have a flavor more akin to a cherry lifesaver instead of Cherry Night Quil. Thus, when I found a 12 oz bag of Smoker?s Pride Cherry Pipe tobacco for only $6.49 I figured, wow what a deal! It smells like Very Cherry and since it is made by Lane Limited it will taste close, or just as good for half the price! Sadly, I was wrong. It didn?t even taste half as good actually, it was just plain bad. Instead of the cherry lifesaver taste I have come to expect from Lame Limited products I was hit with a chemical cherry flavor that reminded my of the Cherry flavored Night Quil that I hate in cough syrups and hate even more on tobacco. The tobacco has extreme bite. Bite so bad I have never experienced it on any other tobacco. Even when smoked easily and cooly in a filtered pipe, it offended terribly. I could not escape the horrid over powering chemical tasting cherry flavor or harsh bite. I did the only thing I could do that did not involve losing 6 bucks and change. I offered it to my friends to see if maybe I was a bit too harsh on it. My friend Dan agreed with me and after a pipeful gave the bag back to me. I next tried to pawn it off on my friend Matt that just loved Borkum Riff Whiskey so I figured he might actually like it. After a pipe full, he too gave the bag back to me and proceeded to smoke 5 bowls of the Borkum just to get that taste out of his mouth. It sure is a sad day when you must smoke Borkum Riff Whiskey to make anything taste better. I was finally ready just to throw it away as losing friends over 6 bucks was insane even to a tightwad like me when my friend DJ, inquired if he could have a bowl full of that great smelling tobacco in the bag. I gave the bag to him with mixed feelings and was shocked to see him enjoy it with great delight. He enjoyed it so much he asked me for the bag even offering to buy it off of me! I was more than happy to give it to him as I sure was not going to ruin my tongue again. The funny thing is this is actually all he smokes now. I either ruined his tongue or turned him on to his favorite pipe tobacco. I like to think that it was the latter but sadly, I think it just killed his taste buds. In closing, I was rather shocked as I have smoked all the other Smoker?s Pride offering and I must say rather enjoyed them. It really is a shame considering if someone picks this up as their first experience with Smoker?s Pride they will most likely throw it out after a few pipe fulls and never give any Smoker?s Pride offerings a chance or any cheap tobacco a chance again for that matter. Definitely not recommended even though I have one friend that liked it.

Decided to finally roll the dice and order the Cherry Cavendish. The bag aroma was, for me at least, over the top Cherry. I hoped for a more mellow approach, maybe similar to Middleton's Cherry Blend. But this is, as has been said by others, cough drop strength cherry flavoring, closer to Paladin. I put it in a MM standard filter pipe. The smoke is cool and it stays lit easily. The room note was a cherry cordial/cherry cream. It did leave its ghost in the pipe. Overall, not a bad aromatic, but not what I hoped for, and I don't think I'll order more.

For some reason I absolutely LOVE the smell of this tobacco and the taste is not bad at all to me either. It is kind of my go to tobacco because it is readily accessible and reasonably priced. Every time I smoke it, I get compliments on the smell of it. It can be prone to tongue bite if smoked quickly or incorrectly, but it is nothing that slowing down and enjoying the smoke can't fix. When someone asks me to recommend them a solid tobacco, I usually point them in the direction of this. It's not a sexy "wow like" tobacco choice, but I can almost guarantee that you will not regret picking up a bag of this stuff!

UPDATE: After months of trying this tobacco in a variety of pipes and smoking it in a variety of different ways I have noticed that it is still a solid tobacco, but more of a 3 star, rather than a 4 star. I definitely prefer the smokers pride black Cavendish a lot more. It smells better and tastes better, so I would encourage anyone wanting to try any of smokers pride blends to try the black Cavendish first, however for the price, pleasant aroma and mild taste both of these flavors are a solid choice. Happy smoking!

I am new to pipe smoking so bear with me if you will. Had a great smell I loved it the taste was good but I had a hard time getting the full flavor of the cherry. It is relatively cheap and it comes in a 12.oz bag great bulk tobacco.

All and all I did enjoy it all around it had vary little bite to it, overall it was a great bowl.

I like this stuff right well.

It has a very strong cherry pouch scent that's rather medicinal. Bear in mind, however, that the cherry syrup traditionally used in compounding medicines is based on the juice of the red sour cherry Prunus cerasus, a.k.a. "pie cherry," and our association of it with medicine is a learned one. I think the flavoring in this stuff is the real deal, or a very good imitation of it. May well be both, cherry juice augmented with artificial flavoring.

On initial lightup it burns hot and will bite your tongue if you're not careful. It has a bit of a harsh, bitter taste. After it burns down a bit and is retamped it settles down to a nice mild smoke. The slight residual trace of bitterness is inherent to cherry, I think, and isn't unpleasant. The aroma from the bowl and the room note are wonderful. I don't think it tastes quite as good as the black cavendish or vanilla cavendish, but the smell is enough to make me keep it around and smoke it regularly. It is heavenly!

Straight from a new pouch it burned dry in a bulldog that always gurgles a bit with BCA.

There may be better cherry aromatics around, but I'll give this one a lot of points for its price.

It seems to me that blending it half and half with the vanilla cavendish would be a natural option, and I'll try that shortly.

Yep! It makes a great blend! Neither overpowers the other. You can smell and taste both in a nicely balanced mix. Great stuff! A terrific "dessert aromatic." I love it! Be aware that any pipe you try cherry in will taste and smell like cherry for a good while if you switch back to other stuff, though.

Not much to say about this blend, ordered it with hopes of a decent cherry blend to mix with. I tried some straight and am very disappointed. It smells of cherry (lightly) and tastes a bit like cherry but otherwise a harsh smoke. Has a definite "chemically" taste to it that reminds me of ether. Paladin has a much stronger cherry taste IMHO. On the upside it burns well, stays lit, and leaves no goop in the bowl. There is only a slight tongue bite to it, have had much worse. I can not recommend this to anyone.

Traded with a local fellow for about an ounce of this stuff. He wanted to try my Squadron Leader and it's all he had to trade. I want my SL back!

It was goopy and overpowering with cherry. My wife liked the smell but I sure didn't like the taste. It didn't bite me but felt like it was going to at any moment. A thinly veiled threat that it could live up to easily.

I tried adding a considerable amount of Latakia to this in hopes of overpowering the cherry. No luck. It remained in the background like some heckler trying to get your goat. Speaking of goats, I'm not sure a goat could eat this stuff.

Similar to other reviews(and reviewers), I was worried about taking the plunge to cheap bagged bulk blends, but since the price of tobacco has skyrocket in my area I was left with little choice. As soon as i saw that this particular brand is produced by Lane Ltd I was very optimistic. I can say with confidence and an un-biased palate that every Lane blend ive tried has either been enjoyable or I could see how it would be enjoyed by certain smokers with specific tastes.Upon opening the bag the pouch aroma was equisite and divine, similar to cherry tarts, it reminded me of various Danish Christmas or holiday tobaccos ive tried over the years(in aroma)I could not detect any pronounced artificial casings or flavours, but im sure they are there. The cut was ideal for packing pipes; loose rough cut, but uniform similar to Granger or possibly the Capt. From what I could gather this blend consists of bright virginias, mild burlys and broad cut cherry cavendish. It packed well and took the match with capital success. The aroma of warm homemade cherry jam or pie filling was delightful, and was finished with a creamy buttery smooth note that i havent been able to identify yet(possibly pecans or almonds)I puffed hard to coax a bite with little success, it burned cool with lots of unmasked tobacco flavour, which I cant say for most cherry blends regardless of the price tag. It burned down to the finest white ash ive had to date, and left no dottle or slugs in the bowl.I have never been so pleasantly surprised or so impressed with a blend whether cheap or expensive. I was overwhelmed with the quality and overall enjoyment i got out of this blend, it was truly memorable. This blend will now become a regular in my pouch and at this price I will never feel guilty, a true pleasure in pipe smoking. This is one of these taboo blends everyone should try once, regardless of taste, preference or pride. You will be pleasantly surprised.

If you want a cheap cherry blend, either go to the local tobacconist and try the house cherry, or just save up and buy MacBarens Cherry Ambrosia, it is light years better than this.

I guess I might be a little more generous with my review than the above reviewer. Now, first of all, I am not a regular fan of cheap drug store type blends. However, I do not all together reject a good bulk blend from my local tobacconist either. And I have pretty much smoked or at least tried most of the Lane Limited blends that are out there in bulk and have more or less enjoyed them. That even includes Captain Black and it's permutations. But when I was given a bag of 12 ounce Smokers Pride Cherry the other night for my birthday, two thoughts ran simultaneously through my head. First, "OH GREAT SCOTT...SHE BOUGHT ME A DRUG STORE BUDGET BLEND...HEAVEN HELP ME THROUGH THIS 12 OUNCE BAG OF YUK". The second thought..."HMMMM....MADE BY LANE LIMITED.....NOT BAD....HMMMMMM....THEY MAKE PRETTY GOOD STUFF.....AW WELL, MIGHT AS WELL GIVE IT A TRY". As much as I had mixed feelings about this blend, it was not quite as bad as I thought it would be. Yes, it is a Cavendish that has Cherry casing and yes, it stays with the bowl after smoking. But the Cherry is not as overpowering as Paladins Black Cherry...nor is it as bland an uninspiring as Middletons Cherry. (two other drug store brands that I have tried in the pass and thought it would be fair to compare Smokers Pride Cherry to). Nor does Smokers Pride Cherry stay in the bowl as drudgingly as Half & Half does. (Yes, on occasion and desparation I have also smoked this...but more or less out of respect to my paternal grand father, may he rest in peace). Of course, I may not be being as objective as I should about this blend, because I have only been smoking it in my Meerschaums and have not yet tried it in any of my briars. And lately since the P & T smoking contest that got me reinterested in Meerschaums, it may be a very long time if ever when I do go back to my briars or at least try this blend out in a briar. Several things should be noted. First, I did not think that Smokers Pride Cherry had such a terrible bite. In fact, it did not have any bite to me at all. Perhaps, it is because I have to pack my Meerschaum bowl differently than a briar inorder to get a good draft. Second, it did not smoke moist either. The only thing that did disappoint me is the fact that I did not get as long as a smoke from this blend as I thought I would. But then of course, this Smokers Pride Cherry is still a budget blend. If any readers would ask..."Would I smoke this again?". My reply would be..."Perhaps not...but maybe not right away on a regular basis". It's too bad I did not know the previous reviewer personally, because I wouldn't have minded if he would have given me his bag of Smokers Pride Cherry for me to smoke on occassion.

To me this is a good bit more Cherry flavor than the S.Value Cherry. This is a more flake cut as apposed to S.V's more stringy cut. This also has black cav style much more noticeable, whereas S.Value appears more light Cavendish/ straight golden va. That is all visual observation, not science. This is less sweet to my tongue than the S.Value brand. They both offer something the other doesn't, so I don't mind having them both on hand. The bag has a sort of "cherry chapstick" odor, but thankfully not in taste. Blends very well with Black Cavendish or some OTC's like Velvet and H/H.

I'm fairly new to pipe smoking, so take my review with a grain of salt.

I live a rural area and there is but one retailer of pipe tobacco in the area. He sells the standard stuff - Prince Albert, Captain Black, Bugler, Sail and the like, He recently brought in several varieties of Smoker's Pride, and I went for this one.

This is an inexpensive, "budget"product. Notwithstanding this, I find it to be a better smoke than many "drugstore" blends. It can and likely will bite 'ya sooner or later. Sometimes, inexplicably, it smokes hotter than hell - other times not? It takes some work to keep it lit for some reason. It tends to go out at about 10 minutes. This forces a re-light to get 30 minutes or so. Disappointing, really. This blend smokes wet and does deposit a little wad of goopy dottle - I suppose this is expected in bargain products, especially cherry aromatics.

Aromatics, it seems to me are either first-class, or awful with little in between. I think this is particularly true in the case of "cherry" blends. CC does not measure up in the quality of leaf department. Still, it has its place.

Thank goodness there are good bacconists in Fayetteville, AR and Tulsa, OK I can visit occasionally. Then too, there is good 'ole "SmokingPipes.com" so I don't have to smoke this all the time. I recommend this product with the qualification that if you live in an urban area where tobacco is readily available, buy some and forget about this stuff. I give it two stars.

A good all-around tobacco, from what I've seen. I've had a bag for a while, only breaking the seal today. Walking through the woods for about 5 hours, having 2 pipes of this, I have to say it is a good go-to smoke in this situation: wanting something that tastes and smells good, but not wanting to take the limited edition hiking. I am very susceptible to tongue bite, but I noticed none from this tobacco. The strength varies on the pack, in my opinion, because I had first a heavy pack, then a light. Both were mild-ish, and the flavoring is ok, but has a bit of a, "you're smoking cheap tobacco," touch to it. If you can get past that, it's a pretty good bang for the buck. I won't smoke it every day, but it's a nice entry tobacco.

I got this on a whim one day when my usual tobaccos had dried-up at home, and I wanted something to smoke. Unfortunately the local 'tobacco' store sells nothing one couldn't find at Walgreens, so I got this.

I hadn't purchased a drug store tobacco prior to this, and I found its cut to be strange (parts look like large red pepper flakes, others like long strands of cigarette tobacco). It smokes cool, but it has little to no perceivable taste. Perhaps it tastes something like a cheap cherry cigar, but milder? I don't know.

Most people do find the room note pleasant, hell, I find it pleasant myself. I've had one person comment that she disliked it, but she disliked cherry in general. I recall it having left a nice note in my car after smoking it, but there's more to a pipe tobacco than its aroma. At least there should be. In the case of this tobacco there is not. I'd only recommend this if you just want /something/ to smoke, and make a room smell nice.

I just did a review of the Smoker's Pride Vanilla, and one thing that this blend has in common with the vanilla is that it has something "rough" about it. I don't know if this is something that I would find in all of the Smoker's Pride blends, or only in these two. I have only tried the cherry and the vanilla. There is a definite taste and aroma of cherry. I'll even go as far as saying that it is somewhat authentic, reminding me of cherries picked off a tree, but again there is this roughness issue that counterbalances the flavor, and the only thing that I can imagine what it could be compared to, upon further reflection of this matter, is that of taking a piece of cardboard and sucking on it. I would rather smell this than smoke this, although I have a big bag of this in the deep freeze, and can't quite bring myself to throw it out just yet.
