Yaqui Tobacco & cigars Azteca 14 Aniversario

A blend inspired by Mr. Gustavo Chávezcamacho Navarro (for his taste of smoked tobacco) and created to celebrate the 14th Anniversary of Azteca Pipa Club.

The tobacco used for this blend contains brigth virginias from Nayarit and burley from San Andres Tuxtla, Veracruz. The blend was maded out in Toluca, Mexico.

From the tin:

When opening the tin, immediately reach the nose smoky aromas, some notes of smoked meat, bacon, the smoked aroma dominates all the possible aromas that the blend could offer; With difficulty, you can perceive aromas of wood, some very hidden citrus fruit and lost among the smoky aroma.

I can't help but think of barbecue, bacon, or roast sausage as I sniff this tobacco. After a while of smelling the can my nose becomes saturated and I feel a tremendous desire to go fry some bacon and egg for a good breakfast that should be accompanied by a good coffee with mezcal.

First fire:

The flavor is extremely intense, the smoke feels very powerful from the beginning, it is accompanied by an itch that appears in the middle and back of the tongue which disappears when the smoke is exhaled. Lowering the rate of the smoke to medium, flavors are perceived in the aftertaste similar to roasted peanuts along with some herbal notes, as well as a spiciness that is pleasant. As the rate of the smoke increases, the smoke takes on more strength and intensity, it is felt in the nostrils and a very strong hit of itching can be felt suddenly in the entire nasal cavity accompanied by a very intense smoke.

I perceive the smoky smell as if a piece of meat were being roasted over a wood fire and the fat that the meat gives off falls on it, that smell of fat burned on wood is what I perceive as a flavor, this tobacco whets my appetite.

Lowering the pace to slow, the smoked is much attenuated and that herbal flavor that combines with that of toasted peanuts appears again, slowing down a little more, the sweetness of the virgina appears as if saying “hey, here I am! why don't you look at me? ”, the sweetness is perceived soft and mixed with the herbal flavor but it struggles a bit with that roasted peanut flavor, the latter being the loser in the third round against the powerful virgina. Accelerating the rhythm again, the smoke appears with all its intensity, which makes the sweetness of the virginia flee and disappear quickly.

Second fire:

The re-ignition is a bit bitter, smoky and bitter, the bitterness ends very soon and is replaced by the intensity of the smoke that now appears accompanied by wood, firewood and in some puffs it gives a feeling of earth, mud. If the rhythm is slowed down, the herbal flavors arrive again now also earthy and they are accompanied by their faithful squire, the roasted peanuts. A greasy sensation is felt on the palate, the smoke is dense, sometimes the flavors can be perceived by savoring the smoke without using the aftertaste. By letting the smoke travel throughout the mouth, not only through the palate and tongue, some flavors are well distinguished, especially that which I associate with bacon, and when using the aftertaste, that bacon becomes in very intense and spicy wood in the nasal cavity.

Again this tobacco, awakens my appetite, I have a beer to accompany this tobacco, just after a drink, the puff of smoke is perceived bitter but soon passes thanks to the intensity of the smoke. Again the sweetness of the virgin is perceived, this time accompanied by a subtle smoke, it reminds me of those candies made from burnt sugar. The sweetness disappears soon, when the rate of the smoke accelerates and only the smoky, greasy flavor is perceived, I insist that this tobacco tastes like bacon.

Conclusions:

A complex tobacco, you have to play with the rhythms to discover the different flavors and nuances that it can offer, if you follow a single rhythm, you cannot fully appreciate this tobacco, if the rhythm is fast, you will only perceive the smoked flavor. In short, you have to smoke with different cadences, the rhythm is of great help to appreciate this tobacco well, that makes it complex for me.

Once again Yaqui Cigar surprises me, not only is it capable of recreating some types of mix as it has already demonstrated with Vícam, it is also capable of taking risks, venturing and creating very interesting and complex proposals such as this blend "Azteca 14 anniversary" .

Una labor inspirada en el señor Gustavo Chávezcamacho Navarro (por su gusto del tabaco ahumado) y creada para celebrar el 14 Aniversario del Azteca Pipa Club, una mezcla realmente interesante.

El tabaco utilizado para esta labor consta de tabaco virginia dorado proveniente del estado de Nayarit y tabaco burley de la región de San Andres Tuxtla en el estado de Veracruz. El proceso de ahumado se llevó a cabo en Toluca, estado de México, proceso que llevo a cabo el mismo mezclador de esta labor, Alberto Valencia.

En frío:

Al abrir la lata o sobre, inmediatamente llegan a la nariz, aromas ahumados, algunas notas a carne ahumada, tocino, el aroma ahumado domina sobre todos los posibles aromas que la labor pudiera ofrecer; con dificultad, se alcanzan a percibir aromas a madera, algún fruto cítrico muy muy escondido y perdido entre el aroma ahumado. No puedo evitar pensar en una parrillada, en tocino o salchicha asada mientras olfateo este tabaco. Después de un rato de oler la lata mi nariz se satura y siento unas ganas tremendas de ir a freír un poco de tocino y huevo para un buen desayuno que debe ser acompañado de un buen café con mezcal.

Primer fuego:

El sabor es sumamente intenso, el ahumado se siente muy potente desde el inicio, le acompaña un picor que aparece en la parte media y trasera de la lengua el cual desaparece al exhalar el humo. Bajando el ritmo de la fumada a medio, se perciben sabores en el retrogusto parecidos al maní tostado junto con unas notas herbales, el ahumado en este tabaco está acompañado de un picor que resulta agradable. Al subir el ritmo de la fumada el ahumado coge más fuerza e intensidad, se siente en las fosas nasales y se puede sentir súbitamente un golpe muy fuerte de picor en toda la cavidad nasal acompañada de un ahumado muy intenso.

El olor ahumado lo percibo como si se estuviese asando un trozo de carne sobre una fogata de leña y la grasa que la carne desprende cayera sobre esta, ese olor a grasa quemada sobre leña es lo que percibo como sabor, este tabaco me abre el apetito. Bajando el ritmo a lento, se atenúa mucho el ahumado y aparece nuevamente ese sabor herbal que se combina con el de maní tostado, bajando un poco más el ritmo, se asoma el dulzor del virgina como diciendo “¡hey, aquí estoy!, ¿porque no me haces caso?”, el dulzor se percibe suave y se mezcla con el sabor herbal pero se pelea un poco con ese sabor a maní tostado siendo este último el perdedor en el tercer round ante el poderoso virgina. Acelerando nuevamente el ritmo, aparece el ahumado con toda su intensidad lo que hace que el dulzor del virginia salga huyendo y desaparezca rápidamente.

Segundo fuego:

El re-encendido es un poco amargo, ahumado y amargo, el amargor termina muy pronto y es sustituido por la intensidad del ahumado que ahora se presenta acompañado de madera, leña y en algunas caladas da una sensación a tierra, barro. Si se baja el ritmo, nuevamente llegan los sabores herbales ahora también terrosos y les acompaña su fiel escudero, el maní tostado. Se siente una sensación grasosa en el paladar, el humo es denso en ocasiones se pueden percibir los sabores paladeando el humo sin necesidad de utilizar el retrogusto. Dejando que el humo se dé un paseo por toda la boca, no solo por el paladar y lengua, se alcanzan a distinguir bien algunos sabores, sobre todo ese al que yo relaciono con el tocino, y al utilizar el retrogusto, ese tocino se convierte en leña muy intensa y picante en la cavidad nasal.

Nuevamente este tabaco, despierta mi apetito, tomo una cerveza para acompañar este tabaco, justo después de un trago, la bocanada de humo se percibe amarga pero pasa pronto gracias a la intensidad del ahumado. Nuevamente se percibe el dulzor del virgina que esta vez se acompaña de un sutil ahumado, me recuerda a esos caramelos hechos a base de azúcar quemada. El dulzor desaparece pronto, cuando se acelera el ritmo de la fumada y solo se percibe el sabor ahumado, grasoso, insisto que este tabaco sabe a tocino.

Conclusiones:

Un tabaco complejo, hay que jugar con los ritmos para descubrir los diferentes sabores y matices que puede ofrecer, si se sigue un solo ritmo, no se puede apreciar por completo este tabaco, si el ritmo es rápido, solo se percibirá el sabor ahumado. En definitiva hay que fumar con diferentes cadencias, el ritmo es de gran ayuda para apreciar bien este tabaco, eso para mi lo hace complejo.

Una vez más Yaqui Cigar me sorprende, no solo es capaz de recrear algunos tipos de mezcla como lo ha ya demostrado con Vícam, también es capaz de arriesgarse, aventurarse y crear propuestas muy interesantes y complejas como lo es esta labor “Azteca 14 aniversario”.
