HU Tobacco Rocinante

(3.33)
Rocinante offers sweet Virginias, with a good portion of burley and each a whiff of perique and Kentucky. This well-selected mixture is stored for 2-years in the climate room until its well rounded aroma develops. Rocinante offer a perfect bouquet. A bouquet that offers perfect balance between the pleasant sweetness and a nutty spiciness.
Notes: Named after Don Quichotes infamous horse - Rocinante.

The Virginias offer some tangy dark fruit, earth, wood, bread, sugar, light tart and tangy citrus, grass, stewed darker fruit, and floralness as they take a very small lead. The burley produces a wealth of earth, wood, nuts, and some sugar as a close competitor to the Virginias. The raisiny, plumy, earthy, woody perique produces light spice as a condiment. The dark fired Kentucky provides earth, wood, light spice, smoke and sourness. It, too, is a condiment. The strength and nic-hit are in the center of mild to medium. The taste is a notch past that mark. There’s no chance of bite or harshness. Barely has any rough edges. Well balanced with some complexity, it burns cool and clean at a moderate pace with a mostly consistent sweet, nutty, mildly fruity, spicy flavor that translates to the pleasant, short lived after taste. The room note is a tad stronger. Barely leaves any dampness in the bowl. Requires few relights. An all day, fairly comfortable smoke.

Sweet, full, round. Smoking HU Rocinante is like snacking on dried mulberries, raisins, and dark apricots. It's a blend dominated by dark and red Virginias, Kentucky & Perique add subtle smokiness & white pepper-like finish. It reminds me of a well-aged Hal O' the Wynd and a different approach to Director's Cut. Rocinante is not necessarily the same, but you can easily understand it's born out of a similar idea. I always prided myself in recognizing an HU blend from a simple whiff. But I must admit, if I had tasted this particular blend blindly, then I could call it a Rattray's blend without thinking twice. I've recently tried 11 years old Brown Clunee, which was very similar to Rocinante in several aspects. Even though they are professionally aged for two years, there's a hint of hay-like, grassy scent and a slightly nutty taste with the butter-like aftertaste. Highly recommended for those who do not want to wait for several years to sip on well-aged tobacco. Highly Recommended.

Smoking now:

From a sample bag. Smoked it blind. The bag note reminded me of sweet and tart Virginias and earthy woody burley. Packed and lite without a problem.

Smoking it blind I guessed Virginia, Burley, and Kentucky. I was right however there’s perique in it too. The Virginia is sweet, slightly tart and the burley harmonizes with its woody characteristics. The Kentucky is noticeable as a condiment adding spicy and smokey notes. The retrohale is delicious and the bbq quality of the kentucky really comes though. Not overly spicy but a sweet smoky wood quality. It’s very nice. This is another dinger from HU. A really nice Vaper/Burkey/Kentucky blend. The nic hit is there, I found it to be pretty strong and I felt it for sure. I smoke cigars and I was surprised at the nicotine level in this. Bowl burned flawlessly. The more I smoke the more the Kentucky and burley comes though and the Virginias take a back seat. No detectable topping, no bite, slight spicy after taste. Very enjoyable. 3.5 stars.
