Tabak Heinrich Privat No. 66

(4.00)
A stronger blend of English traditions with a big share of smoky Latakia, rich Black Cavendish, sweet Virginia and a pinch of Spicy Perique, that pleases the smoker with a well balanced natural aroma.

A house blend of Tabak Heinrich in Nuremberg which is not far away from my place so when I come by I always make a short stop. Their Privat selection is featuring mainly aromatics but with No. 66 there’s a true English Blend in the repertoire.

Opening the tin is a pleasure. Cold smell is leathery, spicy almost a bit like curry ketchup with plum chutney. Leaf of all colors from golden to black. Not too much VA, a bit of Burley, Perique and Orients, lots of black Latakia. Mixture of mostly coarse cut with broader and thinner stripes of tobacco. Packs well after a bit of drying (comes a bit moist in English tradition) lights easily unfolding much of creamy smoke and is burning slow and steady.

Full spicy body with nice subtle sweetness in the background getting a bit less as the bowl goes on. Latakia and it’s spicy compadres take the lead through the whole smoke. Sometimes the Cavendish and Virginia show up to make it a round taste. If smoked carefully it reveals a nice spectrum of peppery and ripe sour notes.

Full bodied, characterful Latakia Blend that lives by its great variety of spices. Depending on what you prefer I’d suggest a whiskey or coffee with it. This may be a joyride for the experienced smoker of natural blends.
