A light, sweet honey casing, fantastic tin note, and a room note that always draws compliments. More importantly, this tobacco burns dry and leaves no goop in the bowl. It actually tastes like tobacco. A very pleasant, mild smoke. I smoke this when I have non-smoking family over, or when I want something of a change. An excellent choice for occasions that call for an aromatic.

Can smoke a bit hot so sip this one slowly to enjoy the honey and vanilla notes without the leftover goop of so many other choices. [edit: age improves this one and diminishes the bite. When aged for a year and dried, this smokes smooth as silk.]

*** It should be noted that while the description above indicates contents as black Cavendish, this is nothing like what most Americans would associate with black Cavendish -- no goop, it's not black, it's not sticky. This is a gorgeous, light brown ribbon.

Edit: after living with this blend for a few years, I am raising my review to four stars. For an aromatic, this blend is top notch. For what it is: highly recommended. Improves with age. When on the dry side, this smokes smoothly with no bite, no goop, no nonsense. Delicious honey and brown sugar notes both in flavor and in the room note. A superior, rarely discussed, and under-rated aromatic.

Nutty and creamy with a pleasant vanilla and honey taste The toppings tone down to tobaccos to a moderate extent. The Virginia is a little grassy and sweet. The burley is nutty, lightly earthy with a drop of molasses, and competes with the Virginia for attention. The sugary black cavendish is a supporting player. The nic-hit is mild. The moisture content is slight, so you may prefer to hydrate it a mite. Burns well with mostly consistent flavor, but may get harsh and nip at your tongue if you puff like a steam engine. Leaves a little dampness in the bowl. Requires an average number of relights. Has a pleasant after taste and room note. An all day smoke.

I'm right there with the other 4 star reviews, having recently returned to pipe smoking after a long absence, my experience with tobaccos has been hit and miss, dependant very much on the reviews of others, with which I haven't always agreed.

This time I certainly do! For me this lovely Cavendish stands head and shoulders above anything else I've smoked so far. The vendor said it had been in stock for a year or two, and it wasn't such a slow burn. A little re-hydration may have helped perhaps?

Nevertheless it was a joy. Deep dark and delicious with a wonderful fragrance. This is definitely on my list of permanent tobaccos when I have the luck to find it again, as it is a bit scarce in the UK.

Savinelli - Cavendish.

The aroma from this one whilst unlit is really nice, you get a good Cavendish hit supplemented by a wonderful sweet hint from the honey, albeit in the aroma I cant particularly discern any vanilla. The mixture is more than pleasant on the eye, it is mostly black in colour with about 25% of the blend being lighter brown. To be a little less positive it does feel a touch too moist and could use a hint of airing time.

The smoke: it has a pleasing sweetness to it, half of which is a true Cavendish sweetness and the other half comes from the additives. The added flavours in it are at a great balance with each other and unlike the unlit aroma you can detect the vanilla in the smoke, and the Honey remains a natural honey flavour, not some gloopy/sugary sweetness, plus if you retro-hale it the honey becomes even more noticeable. The smoke is of a supreme quality in its build, more towards the thick end of the scale , which I do find appealing and the nicotine amount is superb, think Peterson Luxury Blend level. Room note is also similar to Luxury Blend in the fact that the smell is sweet but not at all strong or harsh. This is a very relaxing tobacco that would make a great end to a busy day prior to bed!

Three stars.

It has been my good fortune to have swapped a tin of ghastly Squadron Leader for this tobacco.

Delighfully sweet tin aroma. A little dry perhaps, but then this tin has crossed the Atlantic.

The tin aroma lasts well into the smoke, which is unusual. Usually (particularly with Peterson's) the tin aroma has little bearing on the lit contents.

Takes a few lights to get the core going and seems to be better smoked at one sitting rather than several. I came back to a half smoked pipe straddling dinner and found it burnt hot, still flavoursome but verging on the bitey.

If you like mild aromatics you'll enjoy this one. Reminds me very much of Davidoff's Blue Mix.

You can't buy this in the UK. If you can I've never seen it, which is a shame as I'd happily include this in my rotation.

This stays in my rotation as one of my summer blends. In Sept. I begin to take my last puffs of the summer blends. Many of my friends put down the pipe in the summer and some cigarettes. I stick with the pipe because of my rotation. This is a soft and sweet tobacco of old. The tin opens with a very sweet smell. It falls ever so sweet into the pipe. First light is fast and smokey. You can taste the sweetness from start to finish. Will note that at the end of the bowl if you let it go out and then tr y to relight it will taste bitter. In all this is a solid smoke that I use two tins a week all summer long.

Not a review as such folks just a little info for the people who have stated that this tobacco is hard to come by in the UK. I live in the Scottish countryside and have no trouble in getting this, I order it from The Black Swan Pipe Shoppe online and it is delivered by first class mail the following day. Enjoy folks

Nothing real special about this one. I got more of a caramel flavor than vanilla. It's not that bad, there is just much better aros out there.

Quite good for an old style tobacco... but... it doesn't have anything particular attractive for me. Anyway if you are in an old style library or mansion is very compatible with the atmosphere. Recommended, but not for usual consumption, only in a particular context. And one more thing, it has an relaxing mist (but that's all)

I really was excited to try this one, but right out of the tin this tobacco was super dry and crumbly. It burned really hot and nothing about it really blew my mind. Not recommended.
