Sam's Plug is new on the market and of course is tightly connected with flakes. Tabacco Review moderator due of tonquin bean put plug to the Aromatic, and Sam's Flakes to the Oriental. But frankly speaking should be categorised as a Virginia Base because of commanding role of Virginias only supported by Oriental, or Oriental on grounds of ingredients. Tonquin is so mild that moste people misplace it presence, and is more obvious in second part of the bowl and in aftertaste.

Packaging: just ordinary pouch with 40 g of plug with one big slice . Tins are not available in domestic market. Usually stay fresh c.1-2 years.

Presentation: hardly pressed plug, without sharp knife preparation is impossible. Good news is that: you can smoke directly from pouch- something unusual for most SG blends.

Aromas: mostly very intense fresh dried hay like memory of summer hay-making time, in company of refreshing lemon peel. Some green sharper noteses similar to sage and mugwort. Evident smell of dark, plain rye bred and crude biscuit.

Orientals are shy, hidden, more present after cutting and rubbing, when smell with mild intensity remember diwan shop, atmosphere of maghrebic suk, wet wool, some wooden and slightly incense aromas.

Smoking time: like many plugs is problematic with numbers of relights but when burn stay lit for longer time. I personally prefer mix of rubbed slices and cubic cut for long time pleasure.

Virginias are really juicy, full of lemon peel flavour, with some herbal improvement, after 1/3 stay more bready. From time of half bowl Oriental are more obvious. Wooden, mildly incense, dry give extra dose of acidic feeling in mouth. It's great combo! Especially in tandem with mouthwatering sensation created by Virginias. Perfect palate cleaner. One of this not to many pipe tobacco, which easy create very good connection with aromatic wines like NZ Sauvignon Blanc or German Riesling.

In second part-when flavours are more earthy you can catch kind of creaminess, but not to strong. Orientals are good, sophisticated support for Virginias, but minor players. Blend is really well balanced with dominant of Virginias. Proof of high quality leaves and master level of blending skils.

Nicotin level= 5/10

Topping sensation= 2/10, mosty on the palate

Strength 5/10

Bites 0/10

Consistent of flavour= very good

Really slow burning even if pushed

Medium minus long aftertaste

Leave little moisture

I suppose most straight Virginia and VaPer lovers give it 4 stars due of excellent quality tobacco, good stabile flavours and burning characteristics. I very like Sam's Plug and giving it 3.5. Maybe after 2-3 years (now Virginias are definitely green and young) will be more complex and will give me this incredible pleasure, kind of synergy, orgasmic feeling- which giving me rare 4 stars blends. Thx Sam Gawith, so close...
