Ken Byron Ventures Spaghetti Western 2019

(3.50)
Warning: This is called Spaghetti Western to warn you away. This one isn't for everyone. This one is the Wild, Wild, West made with a mix of elegant and strong tobaccos.
Notes: I wanted to make a blend with Italian dark fired Kentucky which is harvested, fermented, smoked, then fermented again. Following some of the design cues of Viprati (which melds dark fired Kentucky with perique), I made this blend as an homage to Russ Ouellette and his guidance in my blending efforts.

The fermented Italian dark fired Kentucky provides spice, cigar, earth, a lot of nuts, wood and smokiness, a few floral and herbal notes, and a smidgeon of dark fruit and barbecue that is almost as much a team mate to the other ingredients as it is the lead component. Just the same, it never relinquishes the top spot. The tangy, earthy, woody, bready, dark fruity red Virginia mostly takes the second slot, but occasionally faces competition from the cigar leaf. The mildly floral, grassy, tea-like, cedary cigar leaf also sports light citrus, pepper, and wood as a key supporting player. The spicy, raisiny, plumy, figgy perique is always obvious in a secondary role. The woody, earthy, dry and slightly sweet yenidje offers an unflavored soda essence is a step below the perique. The tart and tangy, citrusy, grassy, lightly floral bright Virginia tends to act as a condiment as the other varietals tone down its effect, though you will notice it most of the time. The sugary black cavendish helps smooth out some of the rough edges as a background actor. Both the strength and taste levels just step across the medium mark. The nic-hit misses the strength level by a rung. Won’t bite or get harsh. Well balanced and complex, you’ll experience most of the aforementioned aspects in nearly every puff. Burns cool, clean, and tad fast with a mostly consistent, deep, rich, mildly sweet and savory, spicy flavor that translates to the lightly lingering after taste. Leaves little dampness in the bowl, and requires an average number of relights. Not an all day smoke, but it is repeatable.

This Italian cigar leaf has earth, wood and a bit of sweetness from the tobacco. The double fermented Dark Fired Kentucky leads the way. A medium to strong tobacco and a good after the evening meal smoke. A solid 3 and 1/2 star blend
