Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. Kendal Toffee
(2.00)
Gawith, Hoggarth & Co.'s Kendal Toffee is made of a darker, more mature shag-cut Virginia than their Kendal Gold series. The deeper, sweet flavor of the leaf works beautifully with the rich, warm flavor of English Toffee for a pleasantly sweet flavor and wonderful aroma.

Most aromatics at least smell decent in the tin and quickly lose flavor once lit, so I was annoyed to not even whiff any toffee flavor upon opening. Sure there was a very slight sweet casing, but when you buy something as specific as toffee, you got a sweet tooth to think about.
The shag felt great and was not too dry (a problem with the last Kendal shag I had). Shag is probably the easiest thing in the pipe universe to light and stay lit, and this was no exception; glowing like steel wool in a fire. Sadly there just wasn't anything aromatic here once lit.
The strength of the Virginia did take me by surprise. It packed a nicotine punch like an unfiltered cigarette, which got caught in my throat from time to time.
I won't say it was a bad tobacco, but don't expect anything remotely aromatic here, just a very beefy Virginia.
