The Danish Pipe Shop G Flake
(3.50)
Notes: G Flake comes from an idea created when The Danish Pipe Shop presented VV92 in 2016 where they used grappa in a pipe tobacco for the first time. Nikolaj Nielsen – CEO of The Danish Pipe Shop – is a big fan of Italian grappa and this passion created the idea of VV92 and now G Flake. G Flake is top quality matured Virginia tobacco sprayed with real Italian dark aged grappa and then tinned. The woody taste of grappa combined with alcohol, natural sugar and Virginia makes a perfect match. The Virginia flake is equivalent to My Own Blend number 45 and 333. This is a perfect tobacco to smoke right away, but also for cellaring.

The very hay-like, grassy and citrusy, lightly dark fruity, woody and earthy Virginias also sport acidic, smoky, honey, and floral notes. The rich, woody grappa is a little more obvious than the natural sugar topping. Both work to enhance, compliment, and moderately sublimate the Virginias, although there is a touch of distracting alcohol present. The strength and nic-hit are a little closer to medium than it is to mild. The taste level just reaches the medium mark. It doesn’t quite venture into bite territory, but I do recommend a slow puffing cadence as the acidic quality of the tobaccos is more noticeable if you go hard at it. Burns a tad warm, but clean, at a slightly slow pace with a very consistent sweet and woody, savory flavor that translates to the lingering after taste. Leaves little dampness in the bowl, and needs a little more than an average number of relights. Can be an all day smoke. Should benefit from some aging.

As a big fan of VV92 and B. S Flake I was very curious on the result of this G Flake. Its without a doubt a top quality virgina and compared to the VV92 the taste of Grappa is more gentle. This is naturally because G Flake is a flake compared to the VV92. If you like Dunhill Flake, F&T Vintage Flake you will love this one. And remember to buy some extra because it will be awesome when aged.
