The gold and black cavendishes offer some grass, citrus, a light toast note and some brown sugar. The honey, sugar and vanilla toppings have a bit of richness, and mostly sublimate the tobaccos. I tend to notice the honey a little more than the other toppings. The strength is mild, while the taste is a step or so past that level. Has very little nicotine. Won’t bite or get harsh. Burns cool and clean at a reasonable pace with a consistently sweet and not cloying flavor. Leaves little moisture in the bowl, and requires an average number of relights. Has a short lived, pleasant after taste and room note. An all day, uncomplicated, comfortable smoke. Three and a half stars.

Based on other reviews, I made a purchase of this tobacco. The pouch note is great, and I detect some chocolate. The room note is beyond reproach and lingers for a short while. The tobacco burns at a nice medium pace and leaves a nice room note. I did, however, get some bite from this blend which was unexpected.

A little hay, a little earthy nutty and a little sweet. Really good aromatic blend. No bite here and no goopy mess in the bowl. A really tasty blend of golden and black Cavendish with a taste of sugar, honey and a bit of vanilla. Have smoked at least two bowls of this daily for the last week and find my self looking forward to each bowl. Good blend and a solid 3.

I don't really care for blends that are heavy with Golden Cavendish. In this case, I make a big exception. The first thing you will notice when you open the pouch, is the finer cut. It is not a cube cut by any stretch, but the ribbons are not as long as your typical cut in this genre. The pouch aroma is woodsy and grassy. When I say woodsy, I do not mean smoky. I mean more like sunrise in the forest. It packs well and the moisture content seems fine. It really does light well and stays lit; it lives up to its' advertising of being a simple, constant companion. You will not have to fuss with this stuff if you know how to light aromatics properly. The taste is light wood and grass. It is not over-powering and the smoke stays the same down to the bottom of the bowl. The word here is balance. And, the flavor is light enough to smoke bowl after bowl without thinking too much about it. It is satisfying, however. If Russ' Walking Stick is sunrise, his The Cavendish in the woods is sunset; I have already reviewed that tobacco this last Halloween even as I am writing this on Thanksgiving. The ash is fine. But the wife says that this stuff is in no way aromatic. I love the room note, though. Again, Russ has used a balance of tobaccos to make this blend work with a minimum of top-notes. I use a walking stick for balance and this tobacco truly captures the need for balance, dependability, and companionship that you enjoy all day. Grab it and get going!

I purchased this exactly a year ago, but found it just a bit moist, and somewhat on the too sweet side. It was nice, but just needed some time. So, I jar'd it, and just revisited it this week, to find that it has dried to the right MC for me, and has lost some of the pronounced sweetness. The vanilla and brown sugar are still there, but more tame, and allowing just a hint more of the tobacco flavor to come through. Room note is still very pleasant, although short-lived, and I find myself keeping this nearby when woodworking. As cooler mornings begin to arrive, I just find this to be a very welcome addition to coffee time, and while waiting for birds to arrive at the feeder, and inspiration to jump up out of my table saw. A nice all-day smoke, and three stars from me.
