Kapt'n Barsdorf's Bester Bright Virginia

(2.50)
Käpt´n Barsdorf Bester Bright Virginia is a fine mixture of pipe tobacco with a exceptionally mild aroma of sun-cured Virginia tobaccos. This wonderful blend consists of a base from black cavendish, burley and Virginia tobaccos.

Hmm I think I have the same same blend as described above. Well the tub is similar anyway. There is no cavendish in the brew i have bought from Dan Pipe I am certain.

'How do you know you old fart' ?

You see the colour is uniform light golden brown, and smells well like a good shag virginia, with its bread-like malty smell emanating from this (shocking I know) 160g tin. No cavendish or anything else in here.

Ooooh 160g's wow ! Yup big huh, and its lovely. Glad about that otherwise I'd have one hell of a problem! And even better its only 14 euros! I know ! Couldn't turn that down now could I?

The review idiot.

Ah yes. Beautiful rich toasty smell from tin, containing soft (a wee bit dry) shag, golden-yellow, just waitng to be dived into.

Yeah it's a cheap blend and doesn't taste of much after the first bowl of the day day and burns down suspicously quickly for a pipe tobacco, but what the hell. There is also a hydration issue here. As I've said before I don't rate these tubs the Germans are packing their tobacco in, they don't seem that good at holding any moistness. A very well watered Peublo stone is neede for sure.

If I was on a desert island or in lockdown at home for 3 months this would fill the time nicely

Must have had a premonition or something.

Quality tobacco blends are hard to come by here out in the pampas...you either have to go to Buenos Aires or get it through mail order. Hence why after having finished all my stash of Samuel Gawith blends I was 'forced' into giving this a try. With it being very inexpensive I didn't hold out much hope but at least it wasn't the usual vanilla aromatic blends commonly found here. I opened the pouch and found it a bit on the dry side....but at least it smelt like tobacco and not something you eat, which was a good sign. It certainly lives up to its name of Bright Virginia...it's a very light golden colour which came as a bit of a shock being so used to darker blends. After hydrating it I filled my Falcon and can honestly say I found it quite pleasant so pleaant I decided to go back to the shop and purchase all six pouches they had left of it. The low price compared to the well known blends certainly makes it easy for me to forgive its few failings and allows me to enjoy it for what it is. I find it to be an ideal morning smoke but I can and do smoke it at any time of day. I haven't had tongue bite however that might be down to the casual way I smoke. Worth a try especially if you get it at a bargain price.
