This Christmas, we have decided to revive the first Yuletide tobacco that Bob blended in 1951. This limited-run blend consists of Burley, Virgina, Turkish, and a special and slightly sweet aromatic that gives both body and mildness to the finished mixture. Limited availability. Here's to the master blender, Robert Peretti.
Notes: Many of you are familiar with something called “Yuletide.” It is a concoction that is made yearly, and each iteration is different from the previous year's. This time around, we sought to make something more rooted in our decades old tradition in blending. Bob Peretti made blending a staple at this company, so this time around, our holiday mixture is recreated in observance of his contribution to this company.
Over the last few years after a recommendation from a friend, I've become a fan of Peretti blends. I've tried quite a few of them and have not been disappointed. So when I received an email saying they were reviving this blend, I figured why not, so I ordered a few ounces.
The aroma from the bag is quite pleasant and very pleasing. Floral with a sweetness emitting from the tobacco, as is the pre-light draw after I packed a bowl. First impression upon lighting, it has a very light "Lakeland-ish" hint, but nothing overpowering. No issues lighting it and it stay ignited. Once I got into the bowl, I realized this is a damn good smoke! It's mild, but filled with flavor. The sweetness that has been added takes away the bite from the Burley and makes this a very pleasant, easy, cool smoke. The room note reminds me of tobacco my grandfather smoked in the 60's, that even as a kid I thought smelled amazing. No bite, or that "soapy" taste found in some tobacco blends. It finishes smooth on the palate and leaves literally no aftertaste. Since this is a limited blend, I instantly placed another order, as I know this will be even better once it's been cellared and had a bit of time to marry more.
Pipe Used: First bowl a Calabresi Egg, second bowl, a Falcon
Perfect Christmas blend imo, not heavy in topping natural tobacco flavor is very nice as is with all Peretti blends they use great tobacco, thick ribbons. I smoke fast and got nice Nic from it although very light. The topping is so light I can't figure it out the closest smell/ taste I can sense is Ginger Bread Cookie 🎄🎅🏻🎩❄️☃
