Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. Brown Irish Aniseed
(3.50)
Brown Irish, the thicker version of Brown Bogie, is manufactured by spinning dark leaves into a rope, for a stout smoke. Flavoured with aniseed for chewing or smoking.
Brown Irish Aniseed - The main feature of this tobacco is the addition of inverted sugars and Aniseed to the 'filter' leaf. This is then spun into a rope form before being made into a roll which is cold-pressed overnight

Same as any of the Irish twist Tobaccos but I would this a little drier than the usual. Same dark and bright Virginias.... however this is different in the sense that I got the aniseed flavour as an after taste. Very pleasant after taste. I would i was getting the Virginia flavours, followed by a sweet flavour and the finally aniseed. Very delicate to say the least but very very nice and enjoyable. Especially a long smoke.

Gawith Hoggarth - Brown Irish Aniseed.
A lot thicker gauge than the Pigtail/Bogies, and doesn't have the 'box-pressed' appearance that some of the ropes/twist/pigs have. The pouch smells a little herby, but nothing exactly grandiose! Despite the thickness the rope isn't too moist once sliced.
I'd expected to have a similar reaction to this as I had to it's brother Brown Irish Sweet Apple; not much of an aromatic taste, and an acerbic tobacco flavour. But this is far better. The aniseed spices the smoke just enough to give some identity to it, and the tobacco tastes a lot cleaner. Similarly to Brown Irish Sweet Apple the temperature's low, it burns well to a white ash, and doesn't bite.
The nicotine feels strong, and the room-note's on the strong side.
I'm surprised by this, apart from the prep' time, which I could do without first thing, it's a nice morning smoke.
Recommended.
