As this is the flake version of Dark Plug Rose Geranium, I’m essentially using the review I used for DPRG with minor edits. The Virginias are boldly vegetatively earthy with plenty of fermented ripe dark fruit and a hint of spice and wood. The nutty, woody, earthy, toasty molasses sweet burleys feature a bit of strength in an important support role. The richly deep rose/geranium toppings have a similarity to that used in Grasmere Flake, but it’s not quite as strong here. The toppings do sublimate the tobaccos to some extent, though they lose a tad once cut into flake form, and the tobaccos are just a little more obvious than in the plug version. The nic-hit is a couple steps away from the medium level. No chance of bite or harshness is present. It doesn’t burn hot, but fast puffing with get you a few earthy cigar notes, so I recommend a moderate puffing cadence. The flakes are very moist, and need a light dry time. Burns slow cool and clean with a very consistent smoothly sweet and floral, earthy flavor. Requires some relights. Leaves a little moisture in the bowl. If you leave it moist, pack loosely. The after taste and the room notes will linger. Not an all day smoke, but a filling one that is repeatable.
