Von Eicken Käpt´n Barsdorfs Dark Fired Pipe Blend

(3.00)
Notes: Dark blue tin, manufacturer does not supply a tin note. Some resellers describe it as "sweet and spicy." "The balanced pipe blend Käpt'n Barsdorf Bester Dark Fired consists of a precisely matched tobacco mixture of the tobacco varietals dark fired Kentucky and Virginia. The characteristic tobacco aroma of this exquisite composition shows its merits in the smoke. Due to the fine burning characteristics of this pure tobacco taste and a pleasant room note Käpt'n Barsorf Bester Darf Fired Pipe Tobacco is valued by many pipe smokers. The aromatic dark fired pipe tobacco in the 180 grams tin spoils the price conscious pipe smoker with a spicy aroma and offers a full-bodied, mellow smoking experience." - TabakBörse24.de

A decent quality dark fired blend for very little money! 180g come for under 14€... "this must be rubbish or RYO tobacco.." I thought at first... but I got lucky to get ahold of some 50g "sample" of this by a pipe friend and learned that my first thoughts were more than wrong!

The note from the baggie is strange..obtrusive a bit.. very meaty, slightly sour and woodsy-smoky. Again I was unsure if this would be good.. but it performed very, very well in the pipe, that's a sure thing.

Minor sweetness and in the background contrasts the very woodsy, smoky and meaty dark fired leaf. Has some toasty note to it from the Cavendish and is creamy and hearty in smoke. Burns cool and at moderate pace, despite the fine ribbon-cut. A cheap and enjoyable blend that will take a place in my rotation for sure. Most dark fired blends I have are flakes, plugs or twists and therefore tend to make for a very long and pretty strong smoke. This is a easy "fill in" blend, for when I want some dark-fired aroma during the day, that comes with moderate strenght, almost All-Day suitable.

3/4 worthy blend, no doubt! This is a real surprise to me!
