Ole Shenandoah Single Cask
(2.00)
Whiskey fans may have noticed that pipe tobaccos with the flavor of tangy sweet whiskey can be a little bitey, but not Ole Shenandoah Single Cask. Select burleys and Virginias are joined with a touch of black cavendish, and finished with just enough whiskey flavor to create a pleasant room note and subtle taste.

The Virginia has some grass and citrus, and forms the base of the blend. The burley provides a little nuts and a touch of cocoa. The unsweetened black cavendish adds some brown sugar in the background. The whiskey topping sublimates the tobaccos to a fair extent. Hardly has any nicotine. Won’t bite or get harsh. Burns cool and clean at a moderate pace with a smooth, very consistent flavor. Leaves a little moisture in the bowl, and needs a few relights. Has a pleasant after taste. An all day smoke. Two and a half stars.

The name insinuates a premium quality, but it failed to met that mark. Don't get me wrong, the base tobacco, is consistent with the rest if the Ole Shenandoah line, but the casing left me a little disappointed. I detected a bit of whiskey, without a bite but noting special.

Starts with a whiskey/bourbon tin note and that flavor that is present upon lighting. It seems much sweeter than I thought it would be from the bourbon flavor and Cavendish tobacco. The flavor stayed until the end of the bowl, only fading slightly. Can't think of anything bad to say about this blend, but it didn't knock my socks off either. No bite, only had to relight a few times at the end of the bowl. Good one to try for a whiskey aromatic.
