The Virginia is processed in the cavendish style, and offers a little grass, honey, and tart and tangy citrus. The mildly earthy, nutty, woody, lightly molasses sweet burley plays back up. The unsweetened black cavendish provides a little brown sugar. The cherry topping and the less obvious vanilla sublimate the tobaccos a bit, though they do slightly weaken in the last quarter of the experience. The strength and taste levels are mild. Has little nicotine. Won’t bite or get harsh. The tobacco is a little moist, and burns cool and clean at a slightly less than moderate pace with a smooth, fairly consistent sweet flavor. Leaves a little moisture in the bowl, and requires a few relights. Has a very pleasant, lightly lingering after taste, and room note. It is an all day smoke.

Took a chance on this and was pleasantly surprised. No bite, very smooth and the room note was wonderful. Consistent to the bottom of the bowl and only had to relight once. Very nice aromatic at a terrific price. If you like cherry or are a beginner pipe smoker, this is a great one to have in your rotation.

Mild Medium to Strong Mild Pleasant

Casey Jones - Last Ride.

The coarse cut mixture contains a higher proportion of black Cavendish compared to the lighter tobaccos, and has a strong aroma of cherries. The moisture's good.

Straight away, upon first light, the cherry flavouring leads out of the two casings. It leads, with a picaresque character: false, sweet, and not at all natural! It develops a sourness toward the end of a bowl, this reduces the score. The vanilla has been included in a much lesser quantity; much lesser. I notice far more black Cavendish in comparison to the others, but the smoke doesn't seem too heavy, or sticky; the Burley removes some of the weight. The burn from LR? It's smooth, consistent, cool, and doesn't need much maintenance. Although quite strongly cased, I get no bite.

Nicotine: mild. Room-note: quite pleasant.

Last Ride? Because of the sourness towards the end from the cherries I'll only give it two stars:

Somewhat recommended.

A very light cherry topping on the slightly pressed black cavendish that comes loose easily and fills easily. Burley and virginia lighten it up a bit but I noticed the cavendish the most. The vanilla listed as an added topping was lost on me as I couldn't taste any. No bite and smokes smoothly. None of the strong chemical taste that one usually associates with the cheap cherry aros. Few relights and a nice taste for an Uncomplicated smoke. If you dislike any kind of cherry topping, this is not much of a problem here. The topping is light, does not even come close to overwhelming the base tobacco and tends to fade away after a while. An OTC-type blend? It could have been designed in the spirit of the OTCs of old but afaik it's a fairly new product, along with the other Casey Jones offering, Hero's Blend, which is my personal favorite of the two. A very iight aro that can be an all day smoke for some.

A terrific bag of smoke for the price

First of all, I can only get the hint of the Virginia on a retrohale with it's lite touches of grass. Still you'll know it's there because of the mouth-feel. For me straight Cavendish blends feel satin-like and at times like a smooth coating on the tongue. This is a balanced and enjoyable smoke. I don't taste the Burley over the Cav and toppings at all, though it does get a bit nutty and earthy in the last stretch when the topping weakens, which I find is a nice way to finish the bowl. Depending on how you smoke, the topping ranges from bright cherry to rich, dark cherry. The vanilla is only present as far as I could tell as a means of taming the cherry. Vanilla is also noticeable in the pouch-note( which I might add is amazing- deep, dark, and maddening with an almost caramel aroma under the cherry.) I swear I can taste the caramel towards the end of the bowl with the Burley. Also, using the 'breathe method' will yield more of the vanilla flavours.

The blend burns consistent and cool enough with only one relight, though my pouch is opened a couple weeks now, so a bit of the moisture has subsided.

This is a very forgiving, tasty, and affordable blend that I would recomend to any friend as a beginner blend. It is also good enough that a lover of Aromatics would do well to try out. It would make a great, cheap, all-day smoke.

I find myself often wishing this site used a 5 star system. Leave the ratings as are, but allowing for a 5th star denoting-'Masterpiece Blend Must Smoke' As is, I will give it a 3, though maybe 2 is more accurate as I'd only really recommend it to beginners, those who were already interested, and lovers of cherry blends.

Lane LTD makes this so I was expecting a variation of Cherry Captain Black or Very Cherry but this is totally unique. The cherry is distinct yet subtle; not overwhelming. I'm usually compelled to add something to a cherry blend, either a Burley or a Black Cavendish but I would not change anything about this blend. I paid $5.49 for a 1.5 oz. pouch so it's a little more expensive than a comparable bulk blend but in this instant, it's worth it.

I really like these Green River Burley blends for puttering around the garage or other activities that allow a Black Cavendish blend to shine since anything else would require more attention and therefore possibly bite. Very high quality aromatic that's a real value in the 12 oz tin. Just like the other reviewer, i also taste cherry with that 1-Q vanilla / caramel sauce that works well here. The cut, quality and aroma all scream Lane Limited to me but it could also be Sutliff, either way it's a great alternative to Captain Black at a cheaper price and the tin looks amazing on my desk (anyone that's read my reviews knows I'm a sucker for back stories and colorful graphics) but this time the tobacco is actually very well done and a sweet treat to boot!

I picked up a can of Last Ride after falling in love with Heroes Blend as a great work-from-home smoke. I figured if the cherry was too over-the-top I'd either blend the two or just add something to it to calm it down.

The tin-note is cherry vanilla. The moisture level is good straight from the can but a little moist. I left the tin open for a couple of days to pull it down some.

It packs and lights nicely being a chunky ribbon cut. I get the cherry taste in my mouth and the vanilla more in the room note. Don't pick up much caramel. I smoke it in my cobs which it seems to love.

Burn a little warm, but I don't get tongue bite even if I push it a little bit. I find the cherry stays through the bowl and the 2nd half is milder than the 1st. Has a good room note which is nice now that I'm smoking all day inside. It really is a fire-and-forget tobacco to me which I'm planning on keeping in my rotation for smoking at home and for road trips.

I’m named after John Luther "Casey" Jones so these pouches are a must try.

The pouch note is zesty cherry and vanilla. Standard cherry aromatic pipe tobacco smell. Left the pouch open in the work office and it made the room smell wonderful. The tobacco is not overly wet and is not cased in a sticky goo. Moisture is fine right from the pouch. Mostly black with some light colored ribbons.

Packing and lighting it was fine. The taste is slightly cherry, a good tasting cherry, that’s noticeable but not artificial or chemically. The taste is more sugar sweet, a little testy cherry, with a pleasant after taste. It’s not an over the top cherry flavor but rather a nice sweet sugary, nutty tobacco flavor with some soft cherry notes. Mild and light body. No complaints from my co workers about the room note. The pipe stayed sweet though out which is always a plus for an aromatic. It was was pleasant, and easy smoking. Definitely one of the better cherry aromatics out there. Well done .

A decent aromatic blend from a pouch.

Burley and Virginia cavendish, with a vanilla and cherry aromatic. This is quite nice, and not a bite to be found. The blend actually smells and tastes of cherry, or what we think cherry should. The aroma is a crowd pleaser, as well to the piper. Tastes rich, sweet and mellow. One of the better cherry tobacco blends. I wouldn’t go out of my way to find this blend, but, if I happened upon it again I would purchase it. If you enjoy an aromatic tobacco every now and then, give this Brave Engineer a try.

earlier reviewers gave a very good description of the flavor and I heartily agree with these comments.

I find it has no bite and an excellent room note. Clearly, it's and all day smoke.
