Gauntleys - Summer 2016.
The blend comprises mostly medium size ribbons, quite an even split between black and brown. Even though it smells heavily cased, it's only slightly too moist. Now the smell, this is a little perplexing, it isn't entirely conducive with the list of ingredients: there is some rum, but also a whiff of paprika, it smells a little like a curry!
Onto the smoke: I never bothered giving it an airing, I just loaded and lit my first bowl directly from the fresh pouch. I enjoy the smoke, albeit it doesn't taste exactly as I expected. I don't get much rum from it, but I do get a big flavour of fruity jam/conserve. The peculiar curry flavour found in the pouch-note is totally absent: thank goodness! The tobacco tastes nice, but the topping's quite heavy so it doesn't allow much room for the natural side to come through. The one bad point with Summer 2016 is quite subjective: tongue bite, this brings the score down to three instead of four.
The nicotine's mild, and the room-note's very pleasant.
This is a good blend, it's just a shame about the bite! But I'll still recommend it:
Three stars.
