Russ Ouellette loves Oriental tobaccos, and Mike McNiel has access to some of the finest available, so it should be no surprise that they would get together to create a rich Latakia blend, noticeably influenced by exotic leaf. Mike & Russ - The Mind Meld Full Latakia contains a large dose of Cyprian Latakia which is supported by some of McClelland's finest matured Virginias and a combination of fragrant Orientals. The blend is smoky, tangy with floral undertones and a mellow sweetness. It's a cool blend with plenty of robust flavor and subtle nuances that change constantly through each bowl.

Somehow I wound up with a single tin of this in my collections. I put it on my 2016 NASPC table but it didn't sell. Recently I was rummaging around for a full English that I had never smoked that could also be used in micro blending. So, I opened this tin of Mind Meld Full English and knew, immediately, that it was not such. It seemed very soft and sweet to the nose and both looked like and had an aroma like a McClelland tobacco. I lit it up and knew right away, yep, it was a McClelland blending. The upper third of the bowl passed with little problem but with little fanfare. The middle third smoked away in the same exact manner and I set the pipe down, shrugged and walked away thinking that I had a two star blend on my hands. That evening I relit the pipe and soon was much more satisfied with the smoke. The bottom third of this bowl was, easily, the star of the smoke with a beautiful and rich Oriental quality and, at the same time, pleasantly English. I began to include it in micro blending and it was satisfactory enough on it's own, although, it sweetened and softened everything I put it in - whether I wanted it to or not. All in all, I can recommend MMFE. However, I see this more as a blending tobacco than standing on its own merits and give it three stars.

Similar Blends: not anything in particular that I can remember but it did remind me of some Barry Levin Englishes I have smoked - also tinned by McClelland..

Thank goodness this is not the same Lat used in Sweet English. This one is soft and gentle with a nice flavor. Unfortunately, that's all this blend has to offer. I get a bare hint of Oriental and a slight touch of Virginia sweetness with no Virginia flavor. I completely agree with King Weed about using this as a blending tobacco. Should be able to make a very nice English out of this.

Mild to medium in body and taste. No added flavoring. Burns very well.

What a wonderful surprise. This blend is right up there with Frog Morton as fas as taste go. Opening tin gives that smoky aroma. Light easy and burns cool. Very strong Vinaigrette and wood smoke flavor are dominating with a bit of ginger to wake up those taste buds. Excellent combination to make for an awesome all day smoke. This will definitely join my frog morton in my Latakia rotation. In some ways it is better than ole "froggy".
