James Barber - Balkan Mixture.
This is another fine example of a smaller company giving the bigger boys a run for their money!
As it's loosely packaged, it's had space to breathe so it isn't too wet or too dry; the moistures perfect.
The appearance of the mix is about a 50/50 split between the two sorts of tobacco and they've been cut into mid-sized ribbons.
Onto the smoke: I find the Latakia leaves the Virginia miles behind. It's not acrid, or harsh, but without a doubt, it takes pole position. Now, I like Latakia, but I fear anyone who doesn't appreciate The Smoky One would run as fast as lightning from it, albeit, the Latakia's not too smoky from this: there's lots of flavour, without just a smokiness.
This packs a fair sized punch of nicotine! Not a stupidly strong amount, but it's strong nevertheless.
Another good quality from BM is the burn. It's superbly even, albeit, if puffed with too much vigour it can go quick, but I can have a habit of puffing too hard sometimes!
The ONLY thing I'm not a fan of with this is the room-note: although it doesn't produce that much actual smoke, the aroma reminds me of, well I'm not quite sure how to put this so it doesn't sound silly....... wee! It smells like a public toilet lol. That's not too big an issue though; I just keep a window open!
Joking aside though this is great! It might not be from Peterson, Sam G', or any of the other big players, but it's superb. EASILY worth four stars.
