King Smoking Pipes and Cigars King of Swords

(3.00)
King of Swords pipe tobacco. Not for the faint of heart. An intense, fuller-than-full English blend of Orientals, Virginias, with burley and black cavendish, plus an extra heavy dose of latakia. If you love Dunhill Nightcap, this blend is for you!

Heavy Lat blends are no longer my cup of tea, but I decided to try this one anyhow. If you love these kinds of blends you can probably add a star or two to the two I'm giving this.

As you would expect, the Latakia dominates the flavor profile with it's smoky, woody notes. There is an acrid note as well, but it's not terribly strong. The Black Cav adds a bit of sweetness, a little more would be nice for my taste. I can taste just a touch of Virginia. There is a nutty note which seems to be of the Oriental variety rather than the Burley kind. The Burley is applied lightly enough to be a non-factor in the flavor. I wouldn't call this a Lat bomb as the other components do make a showing. It is Lat dominate though.

Body is medium and taste is medium to full. Does require a relight here and there. Not a bad smoke, but as I said, my preferences have changed over the years and this sort of blend no longer meets them. Worth a try if you like a good dose of Lat. Smokes the same in briar or cob.

This is a tobacco blend that I came across by accident while online price shopping for another blend. I bought my first few ounces last year and immediately fell in love with this lat forward masterpiece. After 30 years of pipe smoking, I have finally found my holy grail.

It is heavy on the latakia but far from being one dimensional. A full, rich flavor with billowing smoke that is sure to please any lat lover. Cool burning, no tongue bite and fine white ash down to the bottom of the bowl.

An enjoyable, satisfying all day smoke. Sold in bulk, a few months of cellaring really makes this great blend even better. My all time favorite tobacco and worthy of a full 4 stars, in my humble opinion.
