Ah, #5, the supposedly unflavored special flake. Granted, I ordered all 6 available special flakes as part of a group order. When it arrived, the pouch and tobacco had the lemon grass smell, so I separated that pouch from the others, and separated two flakes from the pouch. I changed those two flakes over to a fresh baggie and then into a clean jar about a week later. It still smells and tastes of lemon grass, perhaps a tad more so than the sample I had of #2 (no honey in this one, however). Feel free to draw your own conclusions.

Tin Aroma is heady and complex: Pine cone, lavender or lemongrass, some sweet jammy fruit (peach?) notes. Maybe rose petals as well. Cannot really describe but it’s exquisite and what’s more it smells 100% natural. This is the most intensely scented of all the Samuel Gawith Special Flakes.
The Flakes themselves are long and a little moist but they ’re just fine after you char the surface. They smoke all the way through without a need for relight if you are attentive. But you can dry them for some minutes if you wish so without losing any flavor - yet it all depends on the condition one receives the flakes. Very smooth smoke with full flavor! Intense coniferous and lavender aroma with a sweetness that reminds me a little bit of apricot. Very complex and mystifying. Medium strength, cool smoke although with full body. Top quality tobacco underneath. Gradually scent recedes and a dark sweet Virginia comes more to the fore.
Another excellent scented flake from Samuel Gawith. For those who like the style this is a must. Another example of top quality tobacco scenting sublimated to an art form… What more can I say...

Similar Blends: S. Gawith Special Flakes #2 and #4 (although all Special Flakes belong to a similar style). Special Flake #5 is the most intensely scented of all. Flavour-wise S.F. #5 has affinities with Grousemoor but it smokes differently the one being a flake the other being ribbon cut..
