Paul Olsen - Atlantic.
This is a blend for those who enjoy a great quality aromatic, as opposed to some of the cheap creations that are out there.
I opened the tin and was met by a blend with quite an equal quantity of black to brown ribbons. The moisture's good and the smell coming from the tin is strongly aromatic: fondanty, chocolaty, and slightly alcoholic. It's easy to pack and fill the mid-sized ribbons, so on to the smoke:
This is what I'd call a 'Wholesome' tasting aromatic: nutty, sweet, rich and creamy. The rum gives a flavoursome note, but none of the harshness nor sharpness that can often come from rum in tobacco; for the beginning of the pipe it's clearly an alcoholic addition, but after five or so minutes a lot more of the molasses from the rum come through.
The flavour isn't of the rum only; the chocolate and nuts give a great comforting flavour and the tobacco flavours work together superbly: more sweetness from the Cavendish, extra nuttiness from the Burley, and the light grassy taste from the Va; this works brilliantly alongside the upbeat note from the rum.
To finish up: it doesn't bite, the smoke's cool, and the nicotine's just below medium.
Highly recommended; a very high quality aromatic.
Four stars.
