The flavoring is similar to Grousemoor ('lemon grass' & honey) but for my memory (of the rubbed out version) a little milder on the lemon grass and a bit more on the honey. If you like Grousemoor or want to try smoking a lemon cough drop, you may wish to give this a try; otherwise avoid.

Flakes are of medium brown color interspersed with bright spots. The lightest colored of all the Samuel Gawith Special Flakes. Flakes are at perfect moisture, drier then Flakes #2 and #5. They rub out and take to light with ease. Mechanically Special Flake #3 behaves just perfect and smokes dry. Being dryer than all the other Special Flakes it smokes a little faster but still it does not get hot.

Smokes smooth but it is not the smoothest of all the Special Flakes, #2 is smoother. And though the pouch aroma is intense, it is less so than Flakes #5 and #2. Aromatically Special Flake #3 is quite similar to Flake #2, however #3 is earthier, less floral and has more intense spruce aromas. It’s also less sweet. I do not pretend to be able to discern what the scenting is but it is floral and brings to my mind lavender, camphor, green pine cones and miscellaneous spices. Artful Lakeland scenting as with all the Special Flakes!

Strength is medium – Special Flake #3 is a tad less strong than Flake#2. The scenting as said is intense and it translates directly to the smoke. It is an unreservedly aromatic tobacco but all aromas taste natural and produce no tongue bite whatsoever. Virginias are surprisingly present despite the heady scenting – juicy, yeasty and mature. They are of a brighter/earthier type than those used on Flake #2 and hence the sharper, citrusy, hay-like taste. Otherwise it is very reminiscent of Flake #2 with similar if a bit toned down scenting. Due to its medium strength can be smoked all day, even first thing in the morning by those who like the style.

Special Flake #3 is another fabulous intoxicating tobacco from Samuel Gawith!
