"Titus" is an English mixture with a mild taste of latakia, that delivers a "gentle, giant smoke". A mix of light cavendish Virginias, burleys, latakia, and perique.

The moderately nutty, molasses sweet burleys also sport a little toasted earth quality, and mostly takes the lead in this blend. The light cavendish Virginias bring a little toast, grass/hay, and light citrus and honey in a support role. The Cyprian latakia also plays a little higher in the support ranking, though its smoky, woody sweetness lacks some of the richness one normally expects of it. The unsweetened black cavendish offers some brown sugar for smoothness. The perique is a minor player with its very light plum and slightly more obvious spice aspects. The nic-hit is little past the mild threshold. Won’t bite, and has no harsh spots. The taste level is barely past mild. Burns at a moderate pace, cool, clean, and fairly smooth with a gentle, consistent flavor. Requires few relights, and leaves virtually no moisture in the bowl. An easy going all day smoke, though rather tame for an American English as it suffers from lack of flavor depth.

Reminiscent of Middleton's Walnut, which is no longer available. A good tobacco for someone looking for a mild American/English. Probably has the least amount of Latakia of all of the Boswell non-aromatics. A good introduction to non-aromatics.

Another outstanding blend from the great folks at Boswell. Titus is set up as a mild English blend this blend offers so much in small increments. You get burley, Virginias, cavindish, perique, Latakia and although they don't mention it I think just a pinch of orientals. Folks this is about the whole ball game in one blend. The opening note is what you would expect with a smoky sweet and sour aroma. The light up was easy and blend seems to burn pretty cool. The flavor upon first blush is a slightly sweet and sour flavor with a smoky background. This is a really nice mild smoke that gently passes along these flavors without any one flavor being overbearing. As you smoke through the bowl the perique rears its head with spice and I honestly felt I tasted a bit of orientals from time to time even though that as not listed on the blend. Had to relight one time about half way through the bowl but perhaps that was my fault as I was day dreaming that day. As you finish the bowl the perique and latakia take over in a not unpleasant flavor. The room aroma is not strong and not unpleasant at all. This is a pleasant blend that can be smoked any time. Frankly Jim Inks review is a bit surprising as he is usually right on but for a mild English I have to completely disagree with his assessment. Remember every palate is different and some folks may be expecting much more but this is a MILD English blend which means it has to please a large majority of smokers. Frankly, I think they did a fine job with this blend.

Mild Mild Mild Very Pleasant

I believe there is a Boswell English that will suit just about any piper. Each one seems to be built on the same base of Virginia and Latakia, but they differ slightly depending the additions of Burley, Orientals, Perique and Cavendish.. It seems the majority of them share the same casing of a subtly sweet vanilla type flavor.

The pouch aroma of Titus is that of sweet, slightly earthy and bready. Just a tiny hint of mustiness from the perique if you are looking for it. A superbly even cut variety of leaf, almost no stems or shake. Pre-lit draw tastes of slight bourbon vanilla.

Lighting does have a bit of spring to it, so I make sure to leave a bit of head space for expansion. I'm not quite sure if the sweetness is coming from a topping, or the Cavendish Virginia. Either way, its pleasant on the palate and room note. The perique is noticeable when exhaled through the nose, but offers a slight fragrant spice to this blend. Requires a few relights, as it seems to contain a bit more moisture than other Boswell English blends. As most English that contain Perique, it does come more to the front the further down the bowl you get. Due to the moisture content, this also burns a bit wet when smoked fresh.

All in all this blend is balanced, flavorful and easy going. Will not bite, even if provoked. If you are a fan of Boswell, order their English sampler and decide for yourself which suits you best!
