Gauntleys - Perique.
This is a superb quality Perique! Although, I doubt many smokers could derive pleasure from smoking this straight, it takes spice and strength to a new level!
This is heavy in the nicotine area with a strong taste but as the ribbons are on the small side this means it can be added to a blend in a very sparing fashion. The ribbons are pretty delicate so a tiny amount could be used to give a slight piquancy to your smoke.
The best description of the flavour I can think up is 'Perique on Steroids'. Spicy, sharp and vinegary. In fact, if I smoke a bowl neat as opposed to adding it to a blend I get a strange cold sensation on my tongue from the spiciness of it!
A bowl of it neat burns well, albeit this is a redundant point to make as it's meant to be mixed!
As spicy as it is it gives me no bite. This seems a top quality Perique!
As a smoke on its own this would score poorly but as a straight Perique it's the best I've had.
For what it is, highly recommended.
