If Pipestud gives a blend his approval I usually bow three times in the general direction of The Alamo, suck down a Shiner Bock and put Willie Nelson on the stereo.

With this blend I glance in the general direction of Dublin, cross myself with Jameson whisky, drink the whisky and sing Amhrán na bhFiann. This results in quiet solitude in the lair.

Well made tobacco with great raw materials. Good nicotine hit...maybe that put the salt and pepper hue in my chest hair(?), but I doubt it.

The burley component just didn't thrill me, but I can see why burley fans would love this one. It smokes cleanly and with no bite or moisture. I will keep this around for St. Patrick's Day.

EDIT: Down to 3 stars, by the end of the tin I still love it but it does miss that perfection factor.

This Dub just smoked some in a Pete 120 spigot with a whiskey cola on the side....I give it 4 stars,...I have been through most of Pete's baccy's, this joins the pack with my favorites. So far these are Sherlock Holmes, Irish Flake, Uni Flake and now Irish Whiskey is added. Sweet, real tobacco taste, hints of both UF and IF creeping in, dark finely cut baccy, more a Tullamore Dew whiskey than a 10yr Red Breast or a hearty, rustic Power's. Good nicotine level. Very little drying needed. Top whiskey baccy, better than Mac Barens's or Sweet Dublin (which are also nice). I knew I would be in for a nice treat, I can see this aging well. Well done Peterson's, now the only remaining problems the Irish have is paying ?14 a tin for this in Dublin!

Well this is something different entirely. It's not latakia, or virginia, or really an aromatic. I find no taste of whiskey at all.

The taste is very full and unique. Maybe this is what flue-cured tobacco tastes like.

The sidestream smoke is horrendous -- inhale a whisp of this and you'll be coughing your lungs out. Worse than second hand cigarette smoke.

This is a great outdoors smoke for those who like strong tobacco. For the rest of us, zero stars.

This was a dissappointment, I have to say. I was hoping for a similar smoke to Players Whisky of lamented passing, but its really not up to the ticket.

It smells nice in the tin, slightly alcoholic with some dark fruitiness but when lit it's hot and yet insipid. It's not that its a bad tobacco, its just not a very decent one and for the equivalent, my American brothers, of $17.88 for a 50 gram tin need I say more. Yes that is typical of the horrendous price we pay for the privelage of smoking over in the UK :-(

I will jar up the rest with some 5100 and leave it for a year or two methinks

I've started with Peterson tobaccos by choosing "Sherlock Holmes" and I tried this one yesterday... Unfortunately, when I opened the tin, I felt that the smell wasn't so pleasant. The problem with this tobacco, is that it says "WHISKEY" but I'm still looking after it ! The whiskey aroma is just inexistent ! Although, the smoking is mild and tolerable, I don't find anything special in this tobacco. Try "Sherlock Holmes" or "University Flake" !

It's my first review so be patient with me, all. Took up the pipe last year at the ripe old age of 46, and what a year it has been. I've managed to try about two- dozen blends this year, and after a brief affair with aromatics - I came upon a few latakia laden favorites - Capt. Earle's Ten Russians, G.L. Pease's Maltese Falcon, Westminster, and Samarra, and Jesse's Own and Britt's Balkan from 4Noggins, and I can't leave out Engine 99 and Pirate Kake, both from C&D. As much as I enjoy all of these - I was still looking for something else to celebrate St. Paddy's Day ( to honor a few of my ancestors - the Shannons, Faucetts and Littles who sailed here from Eire in the 1820s). So I bid on and won a tin of Irish Whiskey, sealed in the tin since 1995. I opened it yesterday, planning to smoke it throughout the weekend, in several different pipes. What a pleasant surprise! The mixture of colors - golden and browns was pleasing to the eye. The immediate aroma - the earth, sweet grass, alfalfa and molasses. I let it dry a bit before packing the bowl, and though it did take four matches to get it going to my satisfaction, it thereafter required only one relight to the bottom of the bowl. The taste for me was never too weak, nor too strong, which was surprising considering the dose of nicotine that was delivered! Think I was expecting a Miller Light and was thrilled to feeeeeel the Guinness Stout! Best for last though...the only other pipe smoker that I can recall in my family, was my Uncle, who sadly passed in his 40s, while I was just a boy. I often think of him, and can remember him with his billiard, clenched in his teeth. For the past twelve months, I have searched for that specific aroma, the smell of his pipe - and yesterday - I found it. It transported me back - and, well - it was just truly a wonderful experience. If you're looking for a taste of whiskey, specifically, perhaps you should try C&D's Irish Blessing. The whiskey flavor here is just a subtle sweetness, not the driver - just along for the ride. I recommend it and will keep some on hand from now on. Thanks!

Currently I find myself enjoying the full flavor blends containing dark fired tobaccos. IW, for me, falls into this category. I found the tobacco from my tin to be moister than I'd prefer. But, air-drying prior to smoking my second bowl was the trick in allowing the tobacco to show its virtues. The drying also removed the volatile effects of the whiskey, as well as, revealed additional cased sweetness of the blend. That sweetness, not bite, remained on the tongue beyond the smoke. The Virginians, Burley and Kentucky really provide a wonderful complex taste sensation. As Pipestud said, it's not for the novice with its dose of nicotine. Yes, the room note may be a bit assertive, but who cares. These tobaccos are top rate. If your looking for a full flavored cased smoke, filled with a balancing spice, this is it.

Strong, for me it's "evening" tobacco, smell while you smoke may disturb non-smokers. But for me it's tasty, a little bit wet in the tin, but it's not the problem to smoke it.

This is a really good tobacco. Rich, full bodied and pleasant, this blend smokes as smooth as 10-year old whiskey. If you are looking for an aromatic that is not sweet or fruity, this is it. Smokes remarkably cool, top to bottom, and the flavor is consistent throughout. I love the Peterson aromatics, and this has now established itself in my rotation of favorites.

As I smoke this fine blend, I imagine I've just lit my favorite Savinelli, adjusting my tie as I nod to the doorman, exit the revolving door of my building, and step into the waiting Lincoln Continental limousine, soon to be whisked away to an evening at the Club. Foxworth, the driver, asks if I'm going to "the usual" destination. After I nod, he hits the gas, and I lean back, puffing away as I zip through the brightly lit city streets.

First tin of pipe tobacco ever bought. This was all that was available (decent anyways) at my local tobaccy store, as I waited on my internet order from smoking pipes.

I found it very enjoyable - but I am also very inexperienced. Very smooth very little sour. I find myself reaching for this even after I recieved some mcgawth cob plub and peterson's special reserve 2006.

Rich tobacco taste - pleasent smell - and nice nicotine kick. (I am inexperienced, but I still have smoked ciggarettes for over 15 years, and do not get a buzz nor enjoy chew tobacco. This truly converted me from smoking ciggarettes and enlightend me to what fine tobacco should be.

I came upon a tin of Irish Whiskey recently when a local tobacconist decided to close his store to pursue other...pursuits?

At any rate, he closed, and my employer and I decided to stock up on tins. I recived 2 tins of Irish Oak, one Whiskey and one Deluxe. Oak has been a favorite of mine for a while now, and I anticipated the new whiskey flavor.

Smelled nice in the tin. Char was pleasant. Burned nicely, but nare a hint of whiskey. Toward the end of the bowl, however, things began to turn bitter, and, in my opinion, a bit unpleasant. Similar, at least to me, to the overly harsh taste of university flake at the end of the bowl. However, a strong spirit flavor was had.

This will make me NO friends, but my taste is subjective. It was not Irish Whiskey I tasted, but the distinct aftertaste of Islay Scotch?!?!? Although chokingly strong for me, the unique flavor makes the experience worthwhile.

A side note: I have been going soft and smoking more sappy, sticky aromatics lately as a complete change of pace from nightcap and some strong balkan broken flake, so this might seem less strong when smoked alongside my normal stash.

I would keep this around for the occasional diversion. Just not a daily like Oak would be could I afford a daily supply.

I picked up a tin of this in Italy about two years ago a have yet to go through ten bowls of it. I did just smoke it for this review and my thoughts are still the same. Bitter, sharp and rough on my breathing apparatus. Bushmill's tobacco this is not. One star for nicotine content.

Well, First things First. Happy New Year to all. Wishing the best for everyone! Be Healthy, Be Happy, and Be Prosperous!!!

That said, on to business. Just tried this Irish Whiskey blend, after reading a good recommendation for this. And all I could taste was flowers and perfume, and not much else.

I donated this tin to my local tobacco shop, hoping someone out there may befriend it, and save it from mediocrity, or worse yet, the local dump.

My thoughts: Blends like this ought not to foul a good piece of briar, or a good piece of anything!!!

Sorry, in all honesty, I cannot recommend this blend. Simply no redeeming value. My apologies if I may have offended anyone out there.

Good Day

I just couldn't make a connection with this one. There was always a hint of sharpness that I just couldn't get past.

Nicotine content is respectable, but not overly high. The topping was odd tasting. Not at all what I expected.

This tobacco is a decent enough all-rouder. Not too heavy on the flavouring, packs OK and burns reasonably well, although it did give off enough heat to make the pipe (£75 in price) a bit too hot for my liking.

Having said that, I live in Ireland and am a fairly avid fan of Irish Whiskies (much nicer than Scotch blends in my view), and I detected no taste of whiskey here at all.

If a tobacco company could develop a "Bushmills Blend" that tasted like the real stuff, I would buy it in bulk! This unfortunately missed the spot.

I usually don't like aromatics, but this one is top quality. You can detect the real taste of the tobaccos under the scent, it burns cool (a nice proportion of burley helps) and the flavour stays there to the end. Said that, I haven't been drinking whisky for quite a while now, but I still can remember it's a different world from this. And I used to like it better into a glass.

Burley. Chemical casing purporting to taste like whiskey. Mmmmmm...

I LOVE Irish whiskey wisely and well, but would rather sip it neat out of a glass, while smoking something far more entertaining than this.

A nice new addition. A wonderful surprise Christmas gift from the better half. And a nice, strongish smoke that made it to my rotation in one go.

Lights okay, a few relights here & there are needed, but it might be more due to where I smoke, rather than what... The house bar, where this gets smoked and complimented quite a lot, with even a few asking for a taste, plus the drinks etc... well, they do distract you from the smoking itself ;) Not so at home, though.

Having been more than a bit put-off by a early half bowl of Borkum Riff Whiskey I was challenged by this, but the aroma is great right from the tin. Lovely bouquet, and the nose-feel says oranges, though I don't know why. Also a faint whiff of whiskey.

Almost from the first instant this one hits your taste buds full force. Sourish at first, and then it turns into a filling, fulfilling and full-taste smoke with nice hints of that Whiskey taste after the first few puffs. The initial transition is nice. Aromatic-wise not overpowering at all, conservative topping. What I also like is that it doesn't go stale or boring at any point until the very last 5%, must be the well-done mix of baccys in this one, or perhaps the Kentucky fired leaf. Burns well all the way down into a darkish ash.

And as noted by a few reviewers, the Nicotine content is quite high. In fact, I really felt a bit dizzy after the first few bowls, hmmm. potent. I like the strength, too.

Doesn't induce tongue burn in the usual aromatic way, though puffing easy is always recommended, as the aroma comes out so much better.

For decades I've stayed away from most Peterson tobacco products, with the exception of Sherlock Holmes which simply stem from personal reasons and fond memories. So, it was with a bit of reluctance that I thought I'd endeavor to return to them, and, with of all things, Irish Whiskey. Needless to say, my reluctance was well justified.

This is simply a pitiful smoke from start to finish. The minute you open the tin, you are assaulted by not the whiff of anything remotely resembling any Irish whiskey I've ever had the fortune of tasting, but rather some odd smell that reminds one of some mixture of fish, cleaning products, shoe polish and, lastly, tobacco. It's terrible. It actually took convincing to not throw the entire tin out and not try any whatsoever. But, for purposes of this review alone, I went forth.

The smoke itself did not improve the situation, nor the experience. Nothing flavorful, nor anything remotely resembling the experience I've read others mention here. It was absolutely a waste of time. Definitely stay away from this at all costs.
