Frog Morton

Brand: McClelland
Blender: McClelland Tobacco Company
Tin Description: An exceptionally dark, rich and full Latakia Mixture designed for those who desire really satisfying Latakia flavor but want a pipe tobacco soft enough to smoke anytime. It took Frog Morton four years designed for smoking in quiet serenity. It is his proudest achievement.
Country of Origin: US
Curing Group: Air Cured
Contents:
Virginia
Latakia
Cut: Ribbon
Packaging: 50g Tin, 100g Tin
Blend Notes: The name Frog Morton comes to us from the works of JRR Tolkien. Frogmorton: A village in the Eastfarthing of the Shire. It stood on the East Road, between the Three-farthing Stone (fourteen miles to the west) and the Brandywine Bridge (twenty-two miles to the east). Immediately to the north of the village, the stream known as the Water broke into two, creating a wide watery region - this feature seems to have given Frogmorton its name, which means "frog marsh".

I have a new best friend and his name is Frog Morton :) Tin notes is fairly strong, but in a pleasing way. Upon lighting, the first thing that hit my tongue was an almost salty taste--very nice. The room note is medium-strong without being offensive. Froggy leaves a slightly salty aftertaste that seems to fit how it taseted. This will be in my rotation from now on. I just wish they made it in 1/2 pound or even one pound tins.

My new favorite. Great smell when I opened the tin, better as I smoked. If you like Latakia you will definately like this blend. Very pleasant room note. I would recommend a bit of drying time before you light up.

When you open this tin, you catch an aroma very similar to a crackling fire. For some, this might not be appealing. To me, it was like an open invitation. The smokey flavor of this blend is not for everybody, but it sure is for me. Recommended.

Plenty of latakia in this one. Lighter in nicotine and body and tot so mushroomy-earthy tasting as most traditional balkan blends.

This is a great latakia blend. You honestly can't go wrong with the Frog. The blend is had some heft to the leaf so you can't really pack it well in a smaller pipe, this is meant for a medium to large pipe.

This blend burns cool, and you taste just tobacco and it has nothing fake in the 'baccy, casing wise. The tin-note is just a good earthen aroma of nice latakia. It smokes down to the heel with no wet dottle.

Another winner from McClelland in my pipe cellar.

My favourite mixture, and this by far. I'd tried a few other mixtures lately - Davidoff's English and Scottish, Peterson's Irish Oak, and the Presbyterian Mixture (which I also like), but this one is by far my favourite. As soon as I lit it, I thought, "I missed this stuff."

It comes in a tin, but it's not tightly packed like most tins, so you don't need to rub it out. Upon opening the tin, you notice straight away a spicy, almost leathery smell from the dark mixture of Latakia and Virginia leaves. But when you light it, there's a burst of sweet, mellow smoke, void of any artificial flavours. It burns cool, and the smoke is very mellow and relaxing. I don't have a wife to rate the room note, but my non-smoker brother-in-law said he really liked the smell, so I can safely call it pleasant. And the price was very reasonable, too. Perfect for sitting in an easy chair and reading. Smokes down to fine ash, with no gunk in the bottom of the bowl. This one is definitely worth trying.

Stopped by the local shop to get some supplies,(pipe cleaners, tampers, etc..) and noticed a tin of Frog Morton sitting above the jars. I had read and been told it was an exceptional blend and decided to give it a try. As you might have heard it does have a full yet somehow mild taste to it, burns very well(maybe a little slower than your typical blend) and is rather even throughout the smoke session. I do believe this is an accquired blend however and will not be putting it in my rotation, it is just a bit salty for me.

Good English blend, burn so nice. But smoking slow, because is a strong tobacco or you will be dizziness. Peoples arround hates the smell that hangs in the air, i like is similar to that herb benzoinand you know latakia almost never bite tongue.I Recommend for lovers of strong latakia.

FM was always one of those blends that I never did get around to trying and that everyone always talked about. Well... I can see why they did.

A more "simple" blend, consisting only of Latakia (a healthy dose) and Virginias. Smokes cool, burns well, and is most satisfying. Really good smoky, earthy taste, coming from the Latakia of course, but cool at the same time.

I would say this is a very user friendly blend that one really can't go wrong with. If you haven't tried this blend yet and you even sorta like English/Latakia blends, I can confidently say that you are missing out on a good thing.

Most highly recommended.

I am in love. Bowl after bowl, it just keeps giving. I find myself sniffing the bowl in between puffs like some crack addict.

This is such a soft, delicate mixture that even inhaling the smoke only caresses the sense and deepens the enjoyment of the experience.

A keeper.

S.S.S. Smoky, Sweet, Spicy...nice balance here. Frog Morton is unique in smell and taste. You get a richness and sublte latikia note that is really great. I would definitely recommend this blend to anyone. Check out my new video series on youtube called "Adventures in Pipe Smoking"

What can I say that has not already been said? Read about it. Had to try it. Tried it. Loved it.

I favor stronger English blends so this does not exactly scratch my itch but the flavor (however mild) is well balanced and spot on.

English 101 (the tobacco not the language) for Aromatic smokers.

A cool, easy smoke. Love the tin too! Going to try FM Bayou next!

This blend was easily my favorite in the whole Frogmorton series! I could taste this blend the second I lit it up. It to me was almost a sweet flavor and the room note is actually pleasant considering that it is an English blend. Enjoyable for both new and seasoned pipe smokers! A must for smokers moving from aromatics to English's.

This is the result of my first tasting, only have smoked three bowls so far. I immediately understood why many love this blend. It is not the ultimate English blend but it is very good. I have a preference for English/Balkan blends and quite like it. Would recommend it to flake or aro smokers curious about Latakia dominant English blends.

For me, the sweetness of the Virgina matches perfectly with the smokey spiciness of the Latakia. This is mild enough to be an all day smoke but full enough not to disappoint most people.

Addendum: I've finished the first tin now and I like the Frog even more than when I first got it. I must get more, immediately.

This was my first non-aromatic and I tried it based on the reviews here. When I sparked it up I was STRUCK by the flavors. WOW! I was hooked on the first smoke. Smokey, tangy, sweet, earthy, like a good scotch and BBQ. Now when I smoke the aromatics I'm wishing I would have sparked up something like this instead.

For a while, I saw the Frog Morton series in my local tobacco shop but never bought it. I was on a hunt for THE latakia blend for me, and nothing was really doing it. But I finally decided to buy all four, and wow, all of them are well done. It's really the first tobacco that really put me at ease, everything feels so good when smoking FM. Not just this Frog Morton but all of them is now my regular tobacco. I can't put it into words. Milky, sweet, smoky, spicy, blissful. But I can't wait until my next smoke of one of the Frog Morton series.
