| Good stuff no doubt, but it tastes better in certain pipes. A small to medium sized bowl works best for me. Smoking a big bowl can be to much of a good thing and my mouth gets that 'burn-out' feeling. The perique and virginias are blended perfectly, and in a smallish Stanwell, I am quite satisfied by the end of the bowl. Not an everyday smoke, but when I'm in the mood for it, there's nothing better! I love rubbing out the medallions. Great earthy tin note too! Decidely recommended!

| I really like escudo, spicy, but not too spicy. It doesn't hurt my nose when I snork, has sufficent Nicotine, and tastes pretty damn good. The coins are cool, I just break them apart and roll it into a ball then jam it into the pipe.
I've had positive comments on the smell of the smoke. My tin seemed to leave wet dottle every time, so I put a bit of other tobacco in the heel, so as not to waste the good stuff. If you like vaper's, you owe it to yourself to try this.

| Escudo. The word elicits excitement from smokers. I am now a big fan. I get the virginia and perique blend now. The character of the Virginia's, the subtleness of the perique. Great flavor and great smoking. I enjoy this blend rubbed and just folded and stuffed. Excellant. I wonder why o why did I f' around with the aros all this time. I am starting a journey that I am eager to continue. Great stuff this.

| Ahh, The great Escudo. This tobacco really is as good as everybody makes it out to be. It took me a couple years for my palate to develop before I really "got it" but it really is nice. One of the biggest selling points about this tobacco is its consistent quality. Every tin is to notch quality product. It ages really well too.
Escudo is a somewhat middle of the road Vaper in terms of taste. It doesn't have the high notes that I love in Orlik Golden Sliced, but it is not as dark and sinister and lush as Wessex Dark Campaign Flake. It fits right in the middle, and its damn good. The perique is present but appropriately so, not in your face just fitting. This blend is a cornerstone in the pipe world and all true Vaper lovers must try this tobacco. Not my holy grail tobacco per se, but a really good, reliable, and pleasurable smoke Highly recommended.

| The epitome of VaPer's as far as I'm concerned. Sweet, spicy, interesting. I have smoked tin after tin, and I never tire of it. Not much else to add to the hundreds of positive reviews, this is one I will cellar very deep. If you are looking for a cheaper bulk alternative, Bullseye isn't too bad of an option.

| Appearance is a spun coin of mixed brown. Tin smells of light sweetness and pepper. Light virginia taste with a pepperiness.
Escudo is very much as other reviewers have described. I do not find any strong fruity sweetness, but instead a light sweetness accompanied by pepper. However, I'd rather smoke Hal O' the Wynd if I want something like this. Much more satisfying.
While Escudo is nice and is worthy of a recommendation, Hal O' the Wynd has Escudo beaten, hands down.

| The taste is to die for. I absolutely have no idea what more I can expect when it comes to "the taste". Unfortunately I get tongue bite everytime and I really don't understand why/how. Burns well and cool, I'm not having any bowl overheating or similar problems but even with filters (tried both balsa and carbon) or non filtered pipes (meers included) I'm left with the most unpleasant sensation in my mouth at least for 2 days (which means 2 days --or more-- no smoking, eating, even drinking bla bla, zero taste and tons of pain like someone cutting through my tongue) it's unlike anything I've experienced before and reading other comments, it seems I'm almost the only one who suffers.
I've finished a tin with great difficulty due to oral health problems. So I'll be saving the other one for 5 years or later. That means if I'm still alive we will see an update here in 5 year time but till then I'm moving --with tiptoed steps of course-- towards my other favorite, which is Davidoff Flake Medallions.
Highly Recommended for those who don't get "the bite" but for more sensitive ones.. Well, bite mite you must try this at least once.
PS. Looking forward to The German's review on this. His reviews are generally an exact match to mine and I wonder if he'll get the bite.. no I'm not cruel, just curious :P

| Please allow me to preface this review by saying that I've been on a " Burley Binge ", which isnt a bad thing since I like burley very much. But I stepped away from all my favorites English/Balkans, VaPers and went " Cold Turkey " so to speake except burley. I had opened the tin of Escudo that I'm now smoking about a month ago and smoked about half the tin and thought today might be a good time to revisit this OUTSTANDING blend. Let me tell you everything in this blend jumped out and sang. The Va's where bright and sweet, the Perique was nice and spicy, it was almost a religious experence. I had been rubbing out the coins and letting them dry for about an hour, as I do with most tobacco in any kind of flake. Today I just did the old fold & stuff a whole different animal. It's all been said before but I'll say it over an over again OUTSTANDING OUTSTANDING OUTSTANDING !!! Now if you have been finding blends alittle boring or you think you may be missing something in a blend. Do what I did put everthing to the side and do the " Cold Turkey-Burley Binge " for a couple of weeks and you will see most of your blends with new eyes or pick out little things you've been missing.

| Four stars! I was adamant that I didn't like VaPers until I tried Escudo. This is the first VaPer that I have liked. I'm not just saying I like it, as in I can tolerate it, I'm saying this is a fantastic smoke. It does well in pipes of all sizes for me. You defiantly need to sit down and relax when you smoke it or you will miss the complexity of taste. It has a very subtle sweet cooked/buttery fruit finish. No bite at all. I'm going to stock this one in the cellar.

| Not too much to add here to the myriad of excellent reviews, but I have to say that for once, the latest version of this excellent tobacco from PS is as good if not even more refinned than the earlier versions. The moisture level out of the tin is ok, possibly needing a lttle time to air before packing. I like to carefully break apart the coins, but not too much, and then fold and pack slowly. Just the right amount of perique to add a bit of "figgyness" without dominating the beautiful Virginia depth. Smoked slowly, this burns cool and dry and is a most satisfying smoke for any time of the day! Certainly not overly sweet, and the "N" content is just right. I'm smoking a bowl now in a Dunhill Group 5 Billiard which might just be dedicated to this great blend! Serenity...!

| This one deserves its popularity. Great, pure flavor of figs, malt, and brown sugar with a bit of spice. As to packing method, I found it worked fine to stack 2 to 3 coins together, fold and stuff, then rip off any overhang and return it to the tin. An excellent introduction to virginia/perique blends, and a solid companion for any time of the day. BTW, it seems this is identical to Dunhill's navy rolls, but is often less expensive.

| Great blend with excellent burning qualities. Solid and smooth VA with some real spiciness from the Perique - reminds me of eating pepper steak - a manly smoke for sure. I've not had much luck smoking any flake intact / folded etc. My best results with Escudo are a couple of coins carefully pulled apart / rubbed out by hand taking care to retain some of the long strands - which is easy to do in this rolled format. Let it air on paper for a while, then pack inverted leaving a bit of an air gap in a large bowl.

| In a word "Smooth". Smoothest smoke i can think of. I see why it has a legendary reputation. I like but not love VApers but it would be a crime not to give this 4 stars. As an aside, i have noticed it performs much better in my finer pipes. It doesnt like to be closed in.

| Pefect balance in this smoke. The spiral cut coins have a perfect moisture content and are ready to smoke right of the tin. For me the perique gave the perfect balance of spiciness I was looking for. Ill keep this in stock and visit it from time to time.

| This blend runs hot and cold for me: when it's good, it's really good.
It's a bit pipe sensitive, and its flavors are so subtle and mild that one has to slow down to find them. I puff too vigorously and the flavor fades into nothing special.
Though fleeting and elusive, the flavors are sometimes exceptional. Baked fruit, pepper. Delicious.

| Tin: Escudo comes packaged in the pancake style of tin. In the aroma, perique is not noticed, just a standard, for a VAPER, ripe fruit(yes, perhaps plum) and VA hay scent. The cut is Navy coins which have the shape of 1 1/2" diameter pepperoni sliced 1/16" thick, which is why it is called rope cut. The color is marbled with light brown and tan.
Packing & Burning: The coins are fun to work with. The coins are easily rubbed out into small pieces, but could be smoked by just stuffing them in: one coin for a small, two, for a large bowl. Considering this, it lit and smoked very well.
Taste & Aroma: Smokes like a reguler VA, with a twinge of perique. Nice, mellow VA taste predominates, with a light smoky and pungent undertone from the perique.
Room Note: For a VAPER, not bad.
Strength: This was not noticed until most of the bowl was finished, leaving quite a woozy feeling.
Overall: The VA predominates. The perique was not heavy. Unlike many sliced cakes, in rope form, it was really pleasant to work with. 3.8 Stars.

| I had to give this popular smoke a try after hearing and reading so much about it.
First impressions were a bit intimidating, the perique burnt my nose and I could not get past the tongue bite. So I tried again and again until I figured out the correct dryness and level of rubbing the stuff out. After that this smoke showed its true colors.
Great va/per that sets a good standards for all others to be judged against. Will buy again.
