| Nightcap is one of those mixtures that is a perfect "mixture".
By that I mean none of the tobaccos used in the blend stand out too far ahead of any of the others. The result is a perfect symphony of smoking pleasure.
VA keeps it sweet, Latakia keeps it creamy, Turkish adds an element of depth and Perique adds a bit of spice that you can detect if you exhale through your nose. And the ribbon cut is easy for packing and keeping lit.
I don't think this is that heavy in nicotine. Maybe it has more than blends like 1Q that have almost no nicotine, but it is not as strong as Dunhill Royal Yacht. I actually think Half and Half has more nicotine, but that is just me.
The mouth feel is full but never bites.
The room note is not favored by my better half, but it is actually better than most traditional english blends.
I would actually recommend this to beginners before Early Morning Pipe or MM965. It smokes easier and is more forgiving than the two other popular Dunhill blends.

| I quit cigarettes a couple of years ago. My father was a dedicated pipe smoker and I had tried to gain the same smoking pleasure he did with a pipe but never achieved real satisfaction. Having acquired his collection of pipes after his natural demise (nothing to do with smoking a pipe...just a ripe old age) and having many pipes of my own I decided to give it another try. Free from the grip of cigarette nicotine addiction I found that smoking a good tobacco in a good pipe gave me a new-found relaxation. Sitting on my back porch enjoying a pipe and a good book has provided some of the most enjoyable "quite time" I have ever had. All of this said I have garnered in just a couple of months quite a variety of wonderful tobaccos with Nightcap being one of the best. The first bowl kind of kicked me in the pants with its rush of nicotine. The flavor was most excellent with the suttle sense of Latakia in the background. I limit myself to a bowl a day not wanting to replace the nicotine addiction from my cigarette days but I have to admit that sometimes I seem to "just can't wait" to get home to a new bowl experience. I have a dozen or so blends in my rotation but Nightcap is one of my favorites. I have other tins of Dunhill delicacies waiting in my "cellar" and I hope that they serve me as well this. I highly recomment this blend.

| After two bowls on two different nights I can say this doesn't do it for me. I believe I get the premise of this blend, a mild smoke to enjoy the waning hours and prepare for bed. However, I like a little more flavor, even my last pipe of the night. I will cellar/jar for a few months and see what difference time and atmospherics have on the taste.
a few weeks later ...
A short update. Being of the curious mind, I smoked a few others that are of the "night" blends and have decided to upgrade this a bit. Quiet Nights is what I have in mind when closing out the day and PM Pipe is not close. While I originally stated I would wait a a few months I decided that after a couple of comparisons, and probably the extra weeks added to the maturing process, Nightcap has hit my taste buds.
I did change pipes from two Pete's to two 1950'ish Dunhills, hey, their toby! With that beginning and the extra time in the jar this was a different tobac from the first two tries.
I will give some more time and a few other night time blends a try and will see where this goes. Nightcap is a good 2nd to Quiet Nights and gets another star. Okay, not really a short update but worthwhile.

| I don't think I can add much to the reviews already given here, but Nightcap is one of my favourite tobaccos and it is easy to see why it is held in such high esteem. Full-flavoured with a good nicotine hit, the Latakia forward but not overwhelming and a depth of taste that is hard to match.
I can happily smoke this all day, but it is certainly at it's best when enjoyed in the evening as a long, contemplative smoke accompanied by a peaty Islay whisky and a good book ('An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding' by David Hume springs to mind).
Highly recommended.

| Another new tobacco for me. I just tried this one and loved it. It's like a party in your mouth. Love the flavor. My ritual has been a cup of decaf coffee before bed and a bowl of tobacco. Now the ritual will be the decaf and a bowl of Nightcap. The flavor nearly explodes in your mouth. I'll continue to smoke my daily blends during the "daily grind", but now have a new favorite for the nightime. I'll have to try some other of the Dunhill blends.

| this blend is without a doubt worth its hype. this was actually the first tin i ever bought. after smoking my tobacconists house burly blend for about a month i decided to try one of the tins the shop had in the back. knowing very little about pipe tobacco i choose nightcap because i like the tin description of a relaxing blend. ever since my first smoke of nightcap i've been in love with good english blends. almost a year later nightcap is still in my regular rotation. though now i have gained a greater appreciation for pipe tobaccos and respect this blend highly. this is a blend that shouldn't be smoked only because your in the mood for a pipe. this is a blend that deserves your time and undivided attention. when i smoke nightcap i take my time to pack it as well as i can, i make a cup of chicory coffee, and play Bing Cosby softly in the background, then i sit back, light my pipe and relax. as for the taste, this is the perfect balance of creamy, spicy and smokey. if you like english blends then you must try this.

| Just finished my review of Chelsea Morning and decided to open my tin of Nightcap and see what all the fuss is about. I smoked the previous with my morning coffee and felt it has been long enough now to give this stuff a light and see what we have.
Taste: Very robust. It is full flavor in the fullest sense. Smokey, complex, very tasty. One thing about this blend is that it seems to get better as the bowl progresses. And it gets stronger. I like a good strong smoke from time to time and I'm glad to discover this blend. So far, it's the strongest smoke I've had.
Room note: No complaints yet. Not an aromatic, but not upsetting for anyone. Family is neutral in regards to this one.
Final thoughts: This is where I have to really brag about the merits of this smoke. I picked up the pipe as a means to ditch cigarettes. The most difficult part of that transition is the lack of nicotine that most pipe smokes provide in comparison to cigarettes. This blend provides the "N" in a big way. I never inhale my pipe. And the temptation does not even cross my mind with this one. I think I've finally smoked my last cigarette.

| I do not normally reach for Latakia blends much but when i do, i am EXTEMELY picky. I expect a full taste of Virgina backed up by Latakia in proportion and depending on the blend, a hint of Orientals to finish off the flavour profile.
I never keep many tins of Latakia blends open at any time and will discard any that does not make the cut. I do not smoke them often so i will only smoke the very best.
Well Dunhill Nightcap....are you the best Latakia blend currenly available??? Im afraid i do not know cause i have not smoked them all but i will say that it is about the best Latakia Blend i have ever smoked.
The trick to this blend is the proportion of Latakia. There is just enough to let you know its there yet perfectly blended to give you that creamy, sometimes salty taste. Absolutely delicious. The Perique, although there, remains in the background and supports the delicious Virginias and Latakia perfectly. Of all the blends i have ever smoked, this is by far and away the most well rounded blend considering the powerfull component tobaccos. This was blended by a Master.
Tin presentation was impressive as one would expect from Dunhill and Petersons for that matter.
I will stock up.

| Dunhill Nightcap is a nice burning great smoking blend. This blend is a nice relaxing smoke for late afternoon or evening. It has a higher nicotine level that puts you in a nice relaxing trance that makes this blend live up to its name. It smokes smooth and has no tongue bite. It truly is a great smoke after a long day and has no problem putting you in a nice trance and take all your stress away. I would recommend this blend to other english blend smokers and anyone wanting to give this blend a smoke

| A truly excellent one-of-a-kind blend this, with superb and complimentary tobacco flavours. Too much of a thing for early mornings, perhaps, but in the evening it has a complexity and depth that's the equal of anything, including good Havana cigars (by Havana I mean "Cuban grown and rolled by hand in Cuba", not the "Cuban cigars" made in the Dominican Republic US smokers have to make do with).
A very clean tasting, relaxing tobacco, which changes with every puff as you work your way down the bowl. Fairly fast but cool burning with no bite, and a good, clean tobacco taste with ever-changing tones of chocolate, cocoa, leather, coffee and spice without the heaviness that many English blends have.
The only thing making it a less than perfect last-thing-at-night blend is (as others have said) the huge nicotine hit, which can last hours - I certainly wouldn't want to drive after a pipe or three of this.
Perhaps not an introductory tobacco to brand new pipe smokers, partly because the nicotine hits hard and fast enough to make unwary heads spin, partly because the flavour is very full. Everyone else owes it to themselves to at least give it a try. It's proof that modern blends can be the equal of the blends of days gone by.

| Okay, so I decided that I had to try some Dunhill Nightcap. Let me just say that I didn't know what to expect because there are so many different reviews out there. I've smoked many English blends, but this one is by far the best tasting one yet. It is a very rich smoke that is very creamy. I think it is best enjoyed in the evening time with a beverage. It smokes all the way down to ash, and it is never the same smell to me. It kind of goes back and forth between the Latakia, and the Virginia. The Perique adds a nice spicy flavour to the blend which is nice for the evening time. Overall a great smoke, if not one of the best out there. Very respectable blend.

| A lot has already been said, but this is a great tobacco. It is smoother than EMP , but very similar. Yes, it may have some additional strength ,but not that much. The one outstanding feature I like better than other Latakia blends is the cut, a ribbon, it just lights and stays lit so easy.I also find a nice fruity flavor to the Orientals hidden in the background of this blend. Nothing bad to say.

| This review is of the current version of Nightcap tinned in 2007 and having 5 years of age on it.
My first observation was that in aging the tobacco had darkened some. Moisture level in tact, it lit easily and smoked down to a fine ash.
It still had that famous Nightcap flavor, but it was apparent that the aging smooths out the blend and provides a pleasant smoke with no harshness commonly associated with younger blends. The latakia was not as pronounced as in the earlier Murray version, which could be attributed to the age of the tobacco.
Overall, I found it to be a good smoke and would not hesitate to purchase it again.

| Dunhill Nightcap: Vitamin N. Pow! I truly like this mixture, but not for just the pow. Both the fragrance upon cracking the tin, and the lilt that hits the air upon first lighting are meat house smoky with nutty almond notes that are very attractive, and wonderful in the mouth and nose, if not slightly bitty. I personally have to treat this smoke with respect. This is a good sipping tobacco. Sipping will indeed provide a wonderful smoking pleasure that lovers of English mixtures will enjoy.
This little review is up after smoking Nightcap only 8-10 times with the same little bent Jarl pinch pipe, and I doubt I’ll try this tobacco in any other of my pipes because at this point, I am completely satisfied with the results of both pipe and blend. I cannot give Nightcap a full 4 star review due to the bit, but no drying time; even packing; slow burning and wonderful flavor prompts me to give it a solid 3 stars.
Update 8/3/2012: I've been adding my personal mixes to the mix at the end of my reviews that I think folks might enjoy. Here's one now: It is half Nightcap and half McClelland Bulk MC 2040 Cyprian Mixture from pipesandcigars.com. 4 stars because it completely mellows out any bite from the Nightcap and stays clean and smooth to the last sip. Too me it is literally Nightcap without the bite. Give it a shot.
