An all-purpose smoke. Packs lightly and is easy to light--fluffy in texture. Cigarette-like overall--Lucky Strike/Camel? Not my cup o'tea...

This stuff smells sweet and looks good enough to eat out of the tin, with its beautiful, multi-colored ribbons. I love how the Dunhills smell and how they're cut. Lit, the Virginias are the main attraction here with the Orientals adding support. This is a flavorful and satisfying smoke at times for such a relatively light mixture, and I liked it at first, but then the brightness and overt peppery spiciness began turning me off. It tends to get ashy, too.

Maybe it's the stoving process or my cadence, but I find this black-pepper bite common among some of the Dunhills, and I don't like it. I can see how others can consider this blend a "Nightcap Light" of sorts.

This one's not for me, and is so far my least favorite of the Orlik Dunhills. Of course, your mileage may vary. I don't like Pease's Chelsea Morning, either . . . I am seeing a pattern with this whole morning thing.

Picked up two tins of this stuff, and after looking over the reveiws here I gotta tell you that my method of review began by breaking the seal, and putting my nose to the tin as I took the lid off. I immediately picked out the Latakia. I am like a blood hound with Latakia, and love Latakia. I took the tobacco, and spread some out on a paper towel to examine it. I could see the ribbons of Virginias, and noted the Orientals along with the darker Latakia. I could smell, or note any casing. Well I loaded up a James Upshall dedicated to English blends, and did the charing light, and watched the smoke. Relit, and began the smoke. I gotta say that the comments that this blend is like cigarettes--well I hate cigarretts--For me It doesn't even remotely remind of that smell--garbage, and chemicals. I could immediately note a nice blend of the orientals, virginias, and latakias coming together. As I allowed the bowl to burn to half I noted no real difference in smell, or flavor, and had a nice finish right down to the bottom of the bowl. This blend is nice, and mild, and I can honestly say I REALLY like it. The clincher in my review---I intentionally waited till an evening instead of "early morning"---oh yeah---outside at 26 degrees Far.. I can honestly say I could smoke this stuff--early morning--mid-day, evening--late at night. Its a nice mild English blend that I could not find it strong in the Nicotine arae--at least my first tin. I asked my daughter as I came back in to review the smell, and she admiitingly stated that she noted it as a more cigarette smell on my clothes, but said that during my smoking it it did not have a strong smell---only after the pipe was done did she note that smell. During the smoke however I gotta say that the blending, or melding of the orientals, virginias, and Latakias together the smoking was enjoyable, mild, and not flat. The blend has just enough going on to keep me interested, but not so strong with a certain, or specific flavor that it distracts me to thinking of one certain thing going on with it. I really would say that this is a blend worth putting in your pipe at any time of day----give this a whirl---as with ANY Dunhill blend---nice stuff.

The Dunhill Legacy is to pipes what the proverbial apple pie is to Americanism. The Dunhill line of tobaccos ranks among some of the oldest and most respected, put on a pedestal with names like sobranie.

Whether today's Dunhill blends do justice to the blends of yore I cannot say, and for the purposes of this much beloved web site the point is a moot one. I personally believe the Dunhill tobaccos are of the finest quality one can buy, and the legacy behind them is just icing on the cake.

Early Morning Pipe is what I consider one of the finest in the pantheon of these fine blends. It is not a powerhouse, but beautifully balanced. In the history of pipe tobaccos some names can be misleading, or utterly unrelated to the tobacco itself. This is one blend where the name is perfectly fitting. This is an excellent first pipe of the day, not overwhelming to the palate. It is full of flavor but nothing so big and bold as to overwhelm the palate. This to me is also one of the few Dunhill blends I would consider to be an "all day smoke". Wonderful blend, beautiful virginias and orientals blended with a deft hand. Masterfully balanced. Highly recommended and another must try for anyone considering themselves an avid participator in the quest that is pipe smoking.

Some companies just do things better than others. Not being blessed with an "einstein" for a tongue, I simply trust my simple tastes and find myself in sync with this blend. As reported earlier the same held true for Nightcap. Both Dunhill [sic] Orlik blends are, for me, simply right, simply delicious.

Very pleasant smoke. Mild taste and it smokes very cool, lights easy and stays lit. Easily an all day smoke and it provides a nice nic hit. Will keep it in my rotation. Check out my new video series on youtube called "Adventures in Pipe Smoking"

I have been disappointed with MM 965, it used to be smooth, nutty and slightly sweet, now it's just plain old harsh and tarry, I hope it's just a bad tin.

Early morning pipe however was a pleasant surprise, smooth yet full flavored, it has that typical dunhill dry and robust taste.

I may simply smoke this instead of 965 from now on.

I fine blend. I like this as a wake up but I would think this might be too strong and maybe too much smokiness( Latakia?) for some in the early morning . I love the stringy cut that makes packing and lighting easy. Immense smoky Oriental flavor with a slight sour lemon background . Although Latakia is not listed , I find this smoky .Allow this to breath some in the tin before you load up or it will steam. No bite, big flavor, smooth, all day anytime smoke.

It's a great "on the go blend" no messing around rubbing it out, charing lights , tamping, just stuff the pipe, hit it with a match and smoke. When packing, I like to roll the tobacco in a tight ball and stuff the one piece into the top of the bowl. This method tends to smoke slower and less ashy.I Always have a tin close at hand.

Do you want something milder but similar, try Germains, King Charles Mixture?

Ok. It's official.I'm addicted to this mixture! I held off trying the new orlik dunhill blends because i'd gotten the impression from some of the reviews that orlik had missed the mark again. I used to love the murray version of durbar & aperitiff, but the orlik versions were flavorless to me, so I wrote dunhill off. I was in the tobacco shop one day recently and saw the dunhill tins. Even though I didn't expect them to taste like much, it's just something about the dunhill name and mistique that draws you, isn't it? Bought emp, london mixture, and 965. Tried LM first and was very impressed. A little disappointed with 965, but EMP blew me away. Salty, spicey, and sweet all at the same time and is my all day blend currently. Moral is, when it comes to tobacco, never take other people's word-try it yourself!!

This blend is perfect for what it's meant to be. I enjoy it very much and there have been times when I just kept it going as an all day smoke. It's a refreshing break from the strong English latakia blends and I really would recommend this blend to anyone who wanted to step away from the aromatics and into a pure tasting tobacco blend without all the sugary casings. Top quality stuff from Dunhill.

As with all Dunhill branded product, this is high quality leaf blended in a perfect balance to achieve the desired goal, a light style English for morning tea. The Orientals used are a tangy, citrus, rich and smooth lot that pairs perfectly with the Virginias. They are silky smooth and really get you going in the morning.

Having switched my morning beverage to tea years ago, I find that this blend pairs perfectly to a strong morning cuppa. All the flavors are delicate, not pushy. Like the way your woman wakes you in the morning. A gentle hand that stirs you for the day ahead.

Tin moisture is just a little damp, but put right with a little airtime. After a month in the jar, it's perfect. I always open two or three tins at a time to fill my morning jar so that there is enough to air for a couple of months or longer.

The strength is mild in my little world. It does build toward the medium side toward the end of the bowl, but never gets fully medium. Over the years I have come to appreciate this gentle approach to nicotine in the morning. Flavor is the word of the day with this blend. I switch over to heavier stuff around 10am. But, there is no finer morning smoke than EMP in my humble opinion. As a matter of fact, this is the only mild rated smoke that I cellar. Lady 'N' and I are old friends and I make this my only exception.

I cannot recommend this highly enough as a morning smoke. Cheers!

I am somewhat puzzled by this blend. Not enough taste to keep me occupied and way too much nicotine for the early morning. However, this blend is solidly pleasant, it is quality tobacco, and burns quite nicely and consistently, and tastes nice with coffee, therefore deserves three stars.

Soli Deo gloria!

I'm all about variety, I'm all about quality and my palate is wider than many. Tobacco moisture, tongue bite, mood, smoking circumstances and other controllable variables won't be covered. This review is based on multiple bowls over time.

EMP is my favorite morning smoke thus far. I often enjoy Margate or Chelsea Morning or Balkan Sasieni with my coffee, as well, but EMP really kicks it for me.

The blend constituents seem to be balanced perfectly, with plenty of medium to medium-full flavor and mouth feel. Smoke output is very good, as is most everything about EMP.

The deal sealer for me is the underlying citrus tones. This is the key that sets EMP apart from the other blends I've tried (still have many more to go...). The bit of zest wakes the palate up and goes divinely with a good medium roasted island-grown coffee. The zing blends well with the chocolate and nuttiness of this style of coffee.

This an excellent tobacco.

I found this ole classic smoke to have great balance. I can see how some might use it as an all day smoke because it provides the perfect balance of vitamin N' with the great taste that come from top leaf oriental and Virginias. I found it enjoyed the group 3 size bowls a bit more and like a lady in the morning wishes to be treated delicately or she will turn on ya with a little bite. Its a high recommend for me and ill keep pounds of it in stock.

After reading so many good reviews on this website, I decided to try this stuff myself.. this blend of tobacco left me nothing short of nauseous. It tasted like a stale cigarette, and leaves a smell in the room that smells exactly the same. It is heavy in nicotine, which I do not find pleasing for a morning smoke. or an afternoon smoke... or anytime for that matter.. I don't understand how smokers like this stuff. If you want something that taste like a cigarette, then smoke a cigarette. I couldnt even get half way through a full bowl.. after i write this review, im going outside and dumping it in the grass.. waste of $10.00.. total CRAP..

OK, deleted the old review, since I found out that much of my taste was completely off in this blend and in others. (I had some bug of some sort.)

This is quite good blend, with the Orientals being the dominant flavor here.

UPDATE (2012-11-01): OK, just revisited this blend after picking up some bulk at my local shop, and apparently I've missed it a lot. This is just fantastic now after I've had about year of sampling other blends. This one stands out. Upgrading to 4 and adding to my personal hall of fame (i.e., "favorites" on this site). That makes 3/3 Dunhill blends I've smoked added to my favorites. Something tells me I should be smoking more Dunhill.

For the past couple years this has been my "regular" smoke. Not that is is necessarily the best thing that I have ever smoked, but it is very good and I can readily find a find a tin or two when I running low here in the mountains. I enjoy pretty much anything with latakia, so this meets my key criteria. It lights easily and smokes evenly to the bottom of the bowl. I have been noticing a few stems in my last couple tins, which is something I do not expect from Dunhill.

Orlik blend. Have not tried prevoous incarnations. A beautiful balance smoke which is perfect for the first half of the day. I really, really like this and will always have some on hand. Enough nicotine to get you going. I will cellar a lot of this in case it goes AWOL again.
