Wow! Really like this MacBaren offering. I have only tried Plumcake and Scottish mixture from the MacBaren line and this is a different kind of treat. What I liked was that the deep, fragrant aroma of dark chocolate and cocoa was achieved with such a dry mixture of leaves. This tobacco burned so easily and cool. Definitely a healthy helping of Perique in this cavendish mix which is much to my liking and the interplay between this nose-tickling tobacco and dark chocolate was truly outstanding. Smells like a fresh brownie in the tin but the room note when smoked is that of freshly brewed dark coffee and hickory. Truly a full-bodied tobacco with the sweeter elements of chocolate being found only in the aftertaste for myself. Packs an unexpected nicotine buzz which was quite enjoyable as well. Four solid stars.

Upon opening the tin, as others have observed, one is greeted with a wonderful aroma of rich, dark chocolate. For me, that is where the love ended.

After trying several pipe fulls in various pipes, I could only detect a slight hint of chocolate and honey flavor. Also, as others have mentioned, after smoking this stuff, I concluded that this concoction must have either some perique (which does not agree with me) or burley tobacco, because each bowl, from start to finish, irritated my throat and sinuses.

I am therefore gifting the rest of this tin to a fellow pipe smoker, who once enjoyed cigarettes and so might enjoy this blend. If he doesn't, I suggested that he give it to his girlfriend to use as potpourri. Too bad, I really wanted to like this tobacco. My wife enjoyed the room note, but if you don't enjoy smoking something, why torture yourself?

I tried to like this, I tried it in a few different pipes, but any way I smoked it I got a headache!! I thought the honey was overwhelming. had to throw away about 3/4th of the tin...It wasn't for me.

Chocolate and tobacco--two most beloved delights. But do they harmonize well? Surely enough, they do. Is this an aromatic? Of course! But the folks at Mac Baren go beyond the aromatic nomenclature with this blend to produce a wonderfully satisfying taste experience not to be had with the usual and numerous aro class tobaccos. On the contrary, the tobacco itself, a quality cavendish, stands on it's own as a fine smoke. Now for the "chocolate." Here is the Mac Baren seal of quality and blending genius. Dark and rich in taste, the chocolate flavor is natural and homogeneous to the cavendish, as opposed to the usual sweet afterthought. The tin aroma is absolutely delightful, and a chocolate lover's heaven. Light it, and the transition from smell to taste is one very exquisite moment. The "Honey" aspect is mere in presence, smoothing out the velvety sensory delight. Surely recommended.

I was pleasantly surprised by this new cased tobacco.

The tobaccos are partially broken flakes, very dark. Probably an all double fermented VAs, also known as Black cavendish, mixture.

Smells like semisweet dark chocolate with honey in the background.

Tastes like 85% dark chocolate, so not very sweet.

There is some strength of character to it as well, which makes it a fine balance within cased tobaccos.

The best cased tobacco I have tried and my favorite so far. I smoke it regularly.

When you open the tin you get such an amazing aroma. After the first light it tasted great. Kept smoking for about 5 mins and then I got slapped with MACBITE. Yuck never again.

Tin note was excellent...sweet chocolate.

At the flame...not honey sweet or tasting in any regard, and only a very faint bitter-cocoa taste. Something was there that masked the chocolate flavor in the smoke...Perique? Whatever it was...the combination of constituent tobaccos and casing was terrible.

Not Recommended, and would not order again.

A companion infusion: a brown cow...or black russian.

I am baffled by this tobacco from Mac Baren: there is no mention in the blending notes of what tobacco's are used. Now, I have been thinking a lot about this tobacco and I believe it to be a batch of Acadian Perique that has been reprocessed and flavoured and put on the USA market. I have compared Acadian Perique with this Honey&Chocolate and the basic tobaccos taste the same, same strength, same flavour but shrouded by the chocolate in this blend of course. Perhaps a first batch was flavoured with honey and MB decided not to use a honey casing in the final version. Add chocolate to it, turn it into a "very special kind of cavendish" and voilĂ : Honey&Chocolate I find it a fairly strong tobacco, just like AP, especially near the end of the pipe, but tasty all the same and indeed not goopy or moist. Worth a try. Rob

As an avid English/Latakia/Oriental smoker, I thought I was firmly rooted in the "friends don't let friends smoke aromatics" camp.

I've been smoking some of the naturally sweet Mac Baren blends (Dark Twist Roll Cake, Mixture Flake, Navy Flake), and had smoked one of those in a pipe that I'd smoked aros in back in the day. The ghosted sweetness of the old aromatics I'd smoked whetted my appetite for aromatics, and since I was having good luck with Mac B blends, I decided to give this and "Vanilla Creme Loose Cut" both a try.

There are several qualities of the tobacco in the tin that struck me: 1) the aroma of chocolate and honey is very full and rich, but not artificial. This tobacco really does smell like they've sprinkled high-quality dark chocolate powder on it; 2) unlike most of the aros I remember from my early years, this tobacco doesn't feel sticky or greasy. If you pinch the tobacco between your fingers, it doesn't stick together, it stays loose.

It packs very easily, and takes to the flame well. After the first char light and the second full burn, the tobacco burns evenly and stays lit. The rich flavors of chocolate and honey are very evident, but somehow not cloying. Remember, I've been smoking strong Latakia blends like "Krumble Kake" and "Artisan Blend", so my palatte is accustomed to strong, spicy tobacco! I disagree with some reviews that claim that the flavors burn off quickly. It seems to me the flavors become a bit more subtle, but the sweetness remains and lingers.

I no longer consider myself a non-aro snob, and if you're looking for a high quality aro that delivers sweetness without the sticky, gooey mess in the bottom of the bowl, this might be worth your consideration.

Let me first mention I prefer sweeter tobaccos. This has a Dark Bakers chocolate taste to it. It is rather overpowered by the Honey though. The taste burns out about a quarter way thru the bowl. Was a bit disappointed in this myself. I would improve this by using a more milk chocolate casing and less honey. It is an opinion only and as mentioned I prefer more sweet tobaccos.

Let me start out saying I love MacB, especially Vanilla Cream, which I consider to be one of the finest vanillas I have ever smoked. I have never really noted the Mac Baren "bite" that people complain about in any of their blends - unless I puff like a freight train.

I hate to blast this one. I had very high expectations reading the reviews here.

First, at the tin: The aroma of cocoa leaps out of the tin. The mixture is quite dry for a MacB and fairly dark.

At the bowl: This tobacco packs easily and lights readily. It is not at all goopy and burns cleanly.

At the match: Um...

Almost no room note. No real flavor, either of cocoa or honey. Wife (a fan of tobacco in general and pipes in particular) says she can't detect any aroma at all even sitting right next to me.

The bowl actually gets a little harsh about halfway through. Unusual for a MacB blend for me.

I am only about a quarter of the way through the tin. Perhaps my tin is off. I will wade through the rest of the tin, but I don't expect it will get much better. I won't be buying it again.

This may be a good blend for beginners. It burns easily, stays lit, is very pleasant at the tin and entirely inoffensive in the room. As an aromatic fan however, I prefer to have some aroma (and some flavor). This one just isn't hitting for me.

This has become one of my favorites lately. I bought three ounces of this from my local tobacconist and upon smoking two bowls returned for 8 more ounces. Burns well, no bite and a wonderful room note. Has an unsweetened dark chocolate aroma.

Being a regular Vanilla Cream from Mac Baren puffer, I thought I would give this a try. To my taste it is a pretty decent aromatic cavendish though not as extraordinary in smell as its older brother. Opening the tin I got a smell which resmbled me of chocolate, not the candy bar but rather the cocoa powder used to season a hot milk cup. I could not find any honey smell in it so far.. Maybe later... It needs to be puffed slowly and gently and larger bowls seem better than smaller ones. The room aroma is good but not overpowering. My wife liked it but she preffers the Vanilla Cream scent over this one. All in all a decent tobacco. Not sure if I will get a second tin after this one finishes though. I tend to preffer Mixture Oiginal, Navy Flake or Vanilla Cream, when I am out of my English blend cravings.

September 26th I have to say that after 4 or 5 bowls of this one I changed my opinion...unfortunatelly to worse... There is something wrong with this blend... It burns like pepper fromth first char of light stricken into the bowl... If you smoke a bit faster it will bite for sure.. The aroma is not very pronounced and it made me a bit dizzy and dried my palate a bit... It is not a lid strenght tobacco. And I will not be getting it again...There are much much better Mac Baren blends... My fave is Vintage Syrian

Although I usually find some MacBaren blends somewhat hot, tongue biters, this blend seems to be the ultimate exception. As an after dinner treat, (or in the morning with coffee), especially with coffee or coffee stout beer, this is a pleasure to smoke. The chocolate flavoring is not overdone as with many aromatics, and not powerful enough to cover some recognition of tobacco taste all the way down the bowl. I can't buy enough of this to keep in my chair-side bowl to keep my pipe smoking friends and relatives supplied. It burns cleanly to a fine white ash, and bowl size does not seem to compromise it's enjoyment. I am almost strictly an English/Balkan, Va/Per smoker myself, occasionally this will fit in special moments. One major factor is this is a major crowd pleaser for you garage smokers. Try it, you will like it.

i love chocolate so i had high expectations for this tobacco. when i opened the tin a noticed that it was a little dry but i didnt care because the aroma of bittersweet chocolate made me forget this was even tobacco to begin with lol! this burned fast and hot but i did indeed taste the chocolate but not the honey. however i did some experimenting and mixed it with some VA and i got a really nice smoke. the contrast of both burning characteristics made a balancing blend which i was satisfied with.

I have been looking for a chocolate blend that suits my tastes. I've tried many blends and although I liked some of them they just didn't quite cut it as a chocolate blend. Now I know that what I was looking for was a blend where chocolate was the center of attention, now i've found it. There's still plenty of tobacco flavor and the blend has body. However, the chocolate flavoring is very prominent in both taste and aroma. Other blends I've tried probably use the chocolate flavoring to bring out certain qualities in the tobaccos used, but with MB Honey & Chocolate chocolate is, as I've said, the center of attention.

Even though the chocolate is prominent and the tin smell strong the flavoring does not overpower the tobacco flavor, it actually enhances it. It is NOT "perfumy" or "soapy" or overwheelmingly sweet as some have said. The tobacco isn't sticky to the touch and it burns really good without leaving any goopy residue at the bottom of the pipe.

Further, I should mention that this blend is very well crafted. There is a great deal of complexity and it really captures the essence of dark chocolate, which is sweet but also has a touch of bitterness. And finally, although the nicotine content isn't off the charts it satisfies and the flavor is very full (the tobacco flavor).

I highly recommend this blend to anyone who is still looking for that "perfect" chocolate blend and has not found one with enough flavor to satisfy. Now, if you've never liked aromatics then stay away from this stuff since it's not the "miracle" blend that will change your mind.
