| This tobacco could be an all-day-aromatic for me. I appreciate the time in the casing and blending of this tobacco. I am an aromatic fan by preference...and I go through a rigorous evaluation process when recommending an aromatic...this one...I would recommend to the even most picky of tastes. Great blend...just Masterful

| Although not much of an aromatic smoker, this one is an exception. One might expect some glop/goop from such an aromatic but not in this case. This stuff smokes great down to the very last. Although moist upon arrival it was easy to light and full of flavor. Carole puts together the very best aromatics anywhere. Her flavorings are of the finest quality and she is a pleasure to deal with. I Cant say enough good things about this tobacco.

| This might be the Holy Grail of aromatic pipe tobacco. It tastes wonderful. There is a nice balance of honey to vanilla, but it never gets too sweet. You can taste the tobacco and it works in harmony with the flavoring. It doesn't burn hot and smokes dry to the bottom. Yum.

| Enjoyable. Tangy. Nice consistency. Not as much honey or vanilla as I expected. Interesting but nothing special. Didn?t burn my tongue at all, did gurgle a great deal. A-.

| Usually sticking with Virginians and English blends I decided to try a few aromatics after reading the positive reviews for Pipeworks and Wilke. This blend was not ordered, but thrown in to my order as a sampler - glad it was, since it is a fantastic change from my usual smoke. The flavor is natural and doesn't hide the true taste of the tobacco used. And like others, my anti-smoking-wife likes the room note as much as me. Looking to try more from Carole soon.

| The second blend I ordered from P&W, and arguably, my favorite aromatic of any custom blender. I smoke this primarily in a blasted Tanganyika meer or a well-loved Jobey Stromboli Extra bent apple briar, and it has never disappointed. It is a dedicated smoke in a fine old one-knuckle bamboo-shanked funnel meerschaum that is an old pal of mine.
Folks, this is what real aromatics are all about, and if more aromatics were like this, quite frankly, there'd be more English-blend devotees out there smoking aromatics. The blend is deep without being harsh, smooth (with earthy bottom notes), and VERY satisfying. Carole is a MASTER at pairing toppings with tobaccos. One of the best qualities of this fine blend is that, while it is very aromatic, it does not in the least smoke "wet." I attribute this somewhat to her use of powders (primarily) rather than liquids as casing. There is no chemical or "propylene glycol" taste, and I find the nicotine level just right. Although the flavor develops different attributes as one progresses through the bowl, the STRENGTH of flavoring is consistent from charring light to last puff...without even the slightest hint of bite at all.
Upon lighting, the honey is in the forefront, without being cloying in any way. Although honey is widely used in aromatics as a flavoring agent, I find that the true taste of honey is often overwhelmed by other, stronger flavors in some blends. Not so with this one. The rich taste of honey, although it takes a backseat to the tobacco flavors starting round mid-bowl, is present to the very last. I have recommended this to smokers of more mundane aromatics who are "scared off" by the heavier English blends. This is a decidedly easy foray into "real tobacco" taste. The quality of leaf Carole uses is very high...I myself can "feel" the difference when filling my pipe. Cavendished tobaccos can be overused at times by some blenders, but the toasted cavendish is married perfectly with the brightness of the Virginias and the good, solid taste and burning qualities of the Kentucky burley in P&W's #191. It's one of the qualities that make the flavor of this aromatic so rich and earthy. I am reminded of the taste of a good, dark stout, slightly sweet. As a matter of fact, I very much enjoy pairing this with a pint of Guinness draught...but as a testament to its versatility, I like it with Sam Adams' cherry wheat, as well. It's a very nice compliment to the pronounced "cherryness" of that brew, and a good pairing since I myself am not very fond of cherry-cased aromatics. WmZiggy said this was "right in there with a brandy and soda," and I know what he means...it pairs well with one of those, too. This one smokes clean and dry, to a dark grey ash, right down to the very bottom of the bowl. The room note is absolutely delicious...heavy, but not overly so, with a rich tobacco aroma that is enhanced but not overpowered by the honey and vanilla scents of the casing. The girlfriend is a confirmed anti-smoker, but even she requests that I smoke this because of the room note.
I can't say enough good things about this blend. I give it a solid four out of four stars, and heartily recommend it to aromatic as well as English fanciers. If you are of the latter stripe and try this, you may find yourself reaching for this one as a pleasant alternative for the palate.
Hats off to Carole for this wonderful smoke...small wonder this is her #1 seller. This truly is "a tobacco for all seasons." Try a few bowls and you'll see why.

| This pipe tobacco is wonderful! The room fills up with a great honey/vanilla smell and then you get to taste it! It is nice and sweet! This is now my favorite blend so far, because there is no bite and its full of flavor! Carol must really blend all of these tobaccos like they say she does because I am positive its not just a whole bunch of bulk tobaccos mixed together and then called a "custom" blend, it really is!

| I ordered a sampler of 5 tobaccos from P&W and this one, in the pouch, reminded me of the drug store Black Cavendish so popular among Americans. I worried it would also be the death of my pipe with goop in the bottom and burnt tongue to match. Well I was wrong on all accounts. As with the other 4-star reviews, I found this a delightful aromatic (spoken by one who swore them off many years ago). As one who smokes Virginia based flakes, this is a wonderful change-of-pace tobacco.
The Black Cavendish predominates with honey and vanilla flavors. It is sweet. It burns well. My sample was not sticky and contained no broken leaf and dust. It was perfect moisture content burned well with subtle changes in taste notes as the smoke progressed, but always dominated by the Black Cavendish. This is a great desert tobacco, right in there with a brandy and soda.

| Pipeworks & Wilke blends have never let me down and I just had to give this one a try by the description. I judge/give my opinion on room notes based an my girlfriends opinion, who is a non-smoker as sometimes it?s hard to base a room note if you are actually smoking it. So, with that said, the room note is pleasing with a sweet vanilla/nut flavor. The blend burns exceptionally well and I have never had to continually light up. At first, the sweet vanilla/honey flavor with a slight nutty backdrop, comes out with just the perfect mix of tobacco to create a pleasing taste. As the bowl burns about half way, I noticed the tobacco flavor picks up a bit more and the sweetness of honey dissipates and becomes more of a bold flavor while still remaining a pleasant taste. Does not have a lot of flavoring that is all over the board but just a ?one sided? pleasant sweet vanilla/nut that makes this blend an ?all around? aromatic. I have never been disappointed with any of Pipeworks & Wilke?s blends as they have always been a favorite of mine. I rate this a 4 star based on having no tongue bite, burning exceptionally well, and a pleasing taste. I don?t think you would be disappointed in ANY of Carol?s/Pipeworks & Wilke blends!

| Another wonderful blend here from P&W. The flavor is actually pretty complex and always interesting to me. It burns well, leaves the pipe clean and dry and I don't get in trouble when the smoke stays in the room too long!
The other reviews here were right: This is near the top in a crowded field of fine vanilla aromatics. It just has so much more to it than just one flavor. This blend can restore one's faith in the principle that one can have fine tobacco and aromatic flavors in harmony with each other.
Accompaniment: Beethoven Violin Sonatas.

| this tobacco is simply incredible. real tobacco taste is present. the honey and vanilla comes out to play alternately. the big difference is i'm told by carole at pipe works and wilke that vanilla "powder" is applied and honey "powder". this makes for an incredibe tasty smoke. no goo. will not bite, and can be a long smoke by packing just a little more tightly. at first, about 3 or 4 bowls, it was an ok smoke. but i was breaking one of my cardinal rules. do not judge a tobacco until you have gotten all the residue and oils out of your pipe from previous tobaccos. it took about 4 oz's to accomplish this in a bari pipe that i have had since 1972. only after the 3 0r 4 oz's were smoked, is when this tobacco really started to shine. and i mean shine. will not be without it. i now order a pound at a time. you will receive positive comments on the room note. i enjoy smoking my pipe at a bar. very few will let you. i usually don't ask, just light up. all the cigarette smokers, the bartender, other patrons ect give positive remarks. it's hard enough to smoke anywhere fellas, why make it harder on our selves with foul smelling tobacco in public? i have smoked probably over 75 % of the tobaccos in this data base, and spent a fortune doing it. do your self a favor. try this tobacco and please don't post a review until you have dedicated a pipe to it, and you have smoked about 6 oz's. i guarantee you'll be ordering by the pound also. one other thing. i have now got into the habit of taking my pipe everywhere. sometimes just holding it, other times clenched between my teeth. why? because if we all band together {the pipe smoking community}, i feel we can make a difference. but instead we hide. were letting the goverment take everything away from us. band together and be proud of our habit, or hobby, or whatever you wish to call it. most folks are tolerent of pipe aromas. i would make these same statements even if i was a non smoker!! this has become more than just down right silly. it's just not right. we have a right to live our lives the way we wish. band together and be PROUD. | This is not your average aromatic. No. 191 is a pungent, flavorful, cool burning, non-goopy blend with a unique flavor. I don't normally like black cavendish in my tobacco, but it is used here with restraint, and the result is exceptional. You really could smoke this all day, with your tongue and dignity intact.
Though Butternut Burley has gotten a lot of rave reviews as a high-quality aromatic, I think No. 191 blows it out of the water.

| In the crowded field of vanilla aromatics, 191 is a contender.
Real tobacco flavor with a mild topping. Very nice room note.
This is not my favorite vanilla aromatic, nor my favorite P&W aromatic, but it's a good one.
Being P&W's #1 seller, chances are that you'll like this one.
